Shame about that. Hampson for Dawes (straight swap) would have been win win for both Carlton & Collingwood. Pies need an up and coming 2nd ruck option with Leigh Brown retiring and we need a power forward. Win Win I would have thought, both around about the same age and development.
Dawes would be lucky to have 10% of Hammers talent. There's no way Carlton would have ever agreed to that trade.

:)

"Henderson in defence is like plugging holes in a sinking ship"

Get used to it mate he will be there for the next 10 years!!

196cm athletic and smart he has KPP all over him.

Honestly I dont think we should trade just to trade, there is no one out there besides dawes out of contract and I dont see him crossing to us.

A spine of

Jamo
Hendo
Judd
Waite
Kruuuuuuze is the only way we should structure up, and bring in mitchell and watson we when were ready. Setanta also in the wings

North have strong midfield dpeth at the moment, particularly with inside types....Cunnington, Swallow and Ziebell in particular.

IMO Carlton need another inside mid and I think Cruize Garlett would be a great fit. Wouldnt be a star, but would be a top 22 player for you.

Its a similar scenario to Hale last year. Hale couldnt get a game because of McIntosh, Goldstein and Petrie....and is now a solid player with Hawthorn.

Not sure what Carlton would be able to give though. North need HBF'ers, speed and KPF's
I see your Cruize Garlett and raise you an ed curnow. !!!

Very few people would have 10% of Hampson's natural gifts...yet as it stands Dawes is an infinitely better footballer.
Are we comparing ruckman to forwards now?

The Filth rated Hampson higher than Dawes in 2006.

Dawes is infinitely better than Hampson at beating up undersized or first year defenders. See Dawes's game against White and Watson. Podsiadly and Hawkins did just as much damage to the HBF playing KPD for Hawthorn. Easy kill if you're that big and they get it in lace out. Dawes two grabs them, but is pumped up as the next superstar KPF. Even Anthony looked good in their structure.

It's ridiculous for anyone to suggest the Dawes has less value than Hampson. Dawes would be an infinitely better player to our structure - but Collingwood would NEVER trade him to Carlton outright.

He played a great game under pressure tonight.

Err no...I was comparing footballers with footballers. Really couldn't give a toss who was rated where in 2006. Evidently we had a Hampson rated ahead of Goldstein. Your point?

Last night Dawes was the very picture of what we require. In a tight low scoring final he presented well and often, took a couple of contested marks and hit the scoreboard. Don't care if they were one, two, or twelve grab marks. He put his big body in front, took marks and kicked goals in a FINAL.

He's not the best KPF going around, hell, he's not the best KPF in his team, but for mine he is the model of what our forward set up could do with.

None of this equates to him running around in Navy Blue mind you so perhaps we move on the next on the list.

Played no better than Setanta vs WC last week. Throw in a fit, in-form Waite (as opposed to Cloke last night) and Setanta kills it.

Dawes kicked 3 goals in a tight low scoring game.
Setanta missed a sitter in the last quarter that cost Carlton the game.

As for Waite, only has 2 years left to remove "potential" from his career

???
Three goals might put a slightly more favourable light on Dawes game.

If Setanta is the answer is a shame we had to wait until he was rising 29 to find that out. Whichever way you look at it we need a good young big forward on the park next year, whether it comes form within or elsewhere.

Setanta's problem is he can still get himself lost in a game. when things are going our way and we play how we want he is exactly what we need.

his timing of when to jump for the ball is fine but his reading of a change in play against the momentum and positioning is sometimes a fair way off.
dont get me wrong i like watching setanta play but he should not be our First pick for FF we just need a mature aged FF from a state comp (yes... sort of like pods i guess) to fill the void til our talls we drafted devlope.

dawes' game last night was more consistant than setantas against wce as well.

Dawes isn't a player to build your forward line around like some seem to be implying but that's how we'd have to approach it if we were to recruit him. I don't care how close to a premiership we are, if we were to approach it with semi-pauper mentality then I think that's a pretty wrong-headed mindset to take. I hope it is, indeed, a moot point.

Dawes wouldn't cope as the main man up forward IMO. He plays the second tall well, ie Cloke gets the no. 1, Dawes no. 2. If he played with us, he's get the number 1 defender, and too much pressure to perform.

Don't want.

I say we give pies a taste of their own medicine, force Dawes into PSD, make him nominate a $1mil/year salary, get him to Carlton on a 3 year 1.2 mil front loaded deal. Dirty, draft tampering pies did the same thing with Ball, and something along the same lines with Tarrant. They do not trade in the spirit of the system, they would rather try bending a club over before agreeing to an equitable deal. See nick stevens
