Agree. That was a mind-**** (Rod Taylor). And so wondrous. Most modern time-travel movies are too fixated on being deliberately confusing, like Primer, the multi-verse, crossing timelines/people. But lack the adventure and singularity like the original Time Machine movie.

These days it's high-tech visuals over plot, narrative & substance.....Back in the days of yore, it merely took a single contrivance of the imagination, around which a plot could be set, with plenty of pathos....Think of Jules Vernes' Journey to the Centre of the Earth (1959) as a good example.....That had me hooked as a kid.

Another all-time mind-fck (Verne).

The biggest mind-fck for me was reading Johnathon Swift's Gulliver's Travels.

Old Swifty's novels were always thick with political satire....We think of his works as great feats of the imagination, when in fact, he was actually using story-line & metaphor to depict social/political biases, prejudices, pettiness & corruption.....His works are first & foremost, cultural critiques of his own times.

I did end up realizing that as an adult. But reading it as a kid, it was a wondrous mind-fck. Either way tho, Gulliver's Travel is a very very complex book with many many subtle things going on.

It's also become very interesting how Hollywood has only just recently woken up to the underlying adult plots & themes (The dark-side) that underlie many of our traditional Western Fairy-Tales.....Think the Brothers Grimm & Hans Christian Andersen.....In large part, due to the works & insights of Carl Jung & his generational influence on de-coding & unpacking those myths as fundamental folk wisdom about human nature itself.

what's old is new again, basically.

They weren't called the Brothers Grimm for nothing.....But yeah, human nature remains constant....Much of what comprises our childhood fairy-tales have been totally sanitised of their original tone & meaning....The bare-bones still remain however.

Regarding the argument that if time travel was possible, we would have seen time travellers already, what if everyone just accepted that time travel is impossible as fact and gave up on trying to make it happen, therefore becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy? Maybe it can only become possible when it becomes possible. That's also bringing in to the equation whether our destiny is actually in our own hands and if the notion of 'whatever will be, will be' is false, meaning there is only one possible outcome in any given situation.

The notion of 'time-travel' has more to do with the human imagination.....Just as we can conceptualise our own deaths & thereby apprehend beyond the limits of our own mortality....We can grasp these notions in ideation, but we will never actually transcend those limits in the actual concrete world.

There is an idea that Time Travel is only possible after we invent it. So if we invent it in 2020, travellers from 2100 can only go back to 2020. This explains why we haven't seen any yet.

I prefer the time travel seen in The Umbrella Academy, where hes regressive time travel. You essentially go backwards into a previous body of yours, younger. Going forward in time is free from complications because you dont already exist then.

They have proved you can't go into the past and they have already gone into the future for a millisecond or something.

If we do achieve it, I see a few levels

1 sending information through a tiny atom sized tunnel but just a few nanoseconds, forward or back. Not useful but the breakthrough

2 sending information a few minutes (which would have real uses like the minority report)

3 sending information for longer periods (which is a step up because the transmitter/receiver cannot be the same apparatus although the tunnel is still only an atom wide

4 Sending AI robots much as we do now into space or under the sea

5 sending a life form small, and then keeping it alive

6 sending a human

Each is an ascending factor of difficulty, yet for romantic reasons we always talk about 6, which would be magnitudes more difficult than 1, which is in itself almost impossible

its impossible.
time is a real thing, eg, big bang till now, or whatever theory for the origins of life you use. there was an elapse of systems, forms, galaxies, stars.

No....Time is a measurement of something....In the human comprehension, that means of change, motion & the relationships thereof.

I can no more travel through a measurement, than I can bathe in a sea of ideas.

They have already gone forward in time by a small fraction of a second , you can't go back in time apparently.

You can't do either.....There is no movement through a conceptual measurement....The measurement itself is time.

There is no movement through a conceptual measurement
You are so wrong, so obviously, I don't know how you can insist on this line of yours.

I can cite examples, obvious ones, would you care to re-consider your viewpoint?

No. "Time" is the motion. The measurements are seconds, days, weeks, months, years, decades. Just like the existence of realty and the measurements are of inches, feet, miles.

No....Seconds, days, weeks, months, years etc; are all examples of human measurement of the motion of the earth around it's own axis & in relation to the sun.

They merely comprise the elements of time measurement....Just as centimetres, meters , kilometres etc, comprise the elements of linear geometrical measurement.
