It's interesting because there are some classic Bollywood films, even really famous ones like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge that perpetuate the whole stalking/pressure the woman into dating you thing... When I was a teen I thought it was "so romantic". As an adult I now feel rather uncomfortable watching those kinds of scenes, and am rather shocked at how common and normalised it is in Indian cinema. It is a general stereotype. But it is a true stereotype of men from India. Personal experience. Due to lack of knowledge and cultural norms it has become this way.
You won’t see it as much in Indian men that have grown up abroad, but those that we’re brought up in India and exposed to Indian media move abroad and don’t know the customs.
Indian movies have always portrayed the “male gaze”, sexualising women and playing loose with what would be considered as normal behaviour in society. A common plot line in movies shows the stalking and pestering of the love interest until she gives in a falls in love with the hero. Songs feature Western backup dancers, and the lead actress in nothing but a bra and short skirts. There’s a song 1993 song called “Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai?”, which translates to “What’s under your blouse?”. I have heaps of examples.
Even in finding partners, Indians are always looking for fairer skin, known as “wheatish”. There’s a beauty product in India called “Fair & Lovely”, with the main aim of the product to make the users skin fairer in tone.
Have a read of this article from a few years ago, about an Indian man that was charged for stalking. And see what his defence was:

Security guard avoids jail by blaming Bollywood for stalking habit
Australian lawyer defending Indian man says obsessively pursuing uninterested women is ‘quite normal behaviour’ for those who take their cues from Bollywood movieswww.google.com.au
This stereotype doesn’t help the Indians that have been brought up here. Because girls do end up lumping us all into the one category.
This goes with Oriental Asians as well, how many Asian female / White male couples do you see compared to Asian male / White female couples.

The whole white skin thing makes me sadI've watched several Tamil and Telugu language films and even in those the lead actresses aren't what I'd consider very dark (Nithya Menen is an example). Or I notice the male lead is ALWAYS darker than the female lead! Makes me mad.
When I was in India we were catching punts over the rivers on our bikes as we were riding around Goa with a few English friends and an Indian friendIt's interesting because there are some classic Bollywood films, even really famous ones like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge that perpetuate the whole stalking/pressure the woman into dating you thing... Yes, that's the exact scene I thought of actually.... Eek.That scene at the start of the movie in the train. And Raj and Simran are both sitting on the floor.
A good example in Tamil film is Rajnikanth, who is 69. Dark actor romancing fair skinned actresses in their 20s.
Business class passenger and they were air stewards ?It's a culture where the males think they are above all women.
I saw an Indian guy talk to 2 Indian girls on a plane trip like they were his slaves and he got them to do everything for him for the whole plane trip.
Business class passenger and they were air stewards ?
The entire plot of Main Tera Hero.Yes, that's the exact scene I thought of actually.... Eek.
Even in one of my favourites, Mohabbatein, Uday Chopra's character forces Shamita Shetty's character into going on a date with him or he will dob her in to her headmistress. And they call it love lol.... Plenty of scenes like that.
And another favourite, Dil Se... Bloody hell. SRK stalks Manisha's character all over Assam when she clearly doesn't like him at all!!! D: They have no boundaries, healthy courtship is not portrayed. Consent, etc.
I mean, not all Indian films are like this. But too many of them are.
Omg, never heard of him but that sounds pretty gross.
The entire plot of Main Tera Hero.
and this:
