It is a general stereotype. But it is a true stereotype of men from India. Personal experience. Due to lack of knowledge and cultural norms it has become this way.
You won’t see it as much in Indian men that have grown up abroad, but those that we’re brought up in India and exposed to Indian media move abroad and don’t know the customs.
Indian movies have always portrayed the “male gaze”, sexualising women and playing loose with what would be considered as normal behaviour in society. A common plot line in movies shows the stalking and pestering of the love interest until she gives in a falls in love with the hero. Songs feature Western backup dancers, and the lead actress in nothing but a bra and short skirts. There’s a song 1993 song called “Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai?”, which translates to “What’s under your blouse?”. I have heaps of examples.
Even in finding partners, Indians are always looking for fairer skin, known as “wheatish”. There’s a beauty product in India called “Fair & Lovely”, with the main aim of the product to make the users skin fairer in tone.
Have a read of this article from a few years ago, about an Indian man that was charged for stalking. And see what his defence was:

This stereotype doesn’t help the Indians that have been brought up here. Because girls do end up lumping us all into the one category.
This goes with Oriental Asians as well, how many Asian female / White male couples do you see compared to Asian male / White female couples.
It's interesting because there are some classic Bollywood films, even really famous ones like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge that perpetuate the whole stalking/pressure the woman into dating you thing... When I was a teen I thought it was "so romantic". As an adult I now feel rather uncomfortable watching those kinds of scenes, and am rather shocked at how common and normalised it is in Indian cinema.

The whole white skin thing makes me sad :( I've watched several Tamil and Telugu language films and even in those the lead actresses aren't what I'd consider very dark (Nithya Menen is an example). Or I notice the male lead is ALWAYS darker than the female lead! Makes me mad.

That scene at the start of the movie in the train. And Raj and Simran are both sitting on the floor.

A good example in Tamil film is Rajnikanth, who is 69. Dark actor romancing fair skinned actresses in their 20s.

When I was in India we were catching punts over the rivers on our bikes as we were riding around Goa with a few English friends and an Indian friend
The Indians and me all hid in the shade on the punt and the English stood in the sun
My Indian friend said Indians didnt want to get a tan only the poor outdoor workers had tans

Yes, that's the exact scene I thought of actually.... Eek.
Even in one of my favourites, Mohabbatein, Uday Chopra's character forces Shamita Shetty's character into going on a date with him or he will dob her in to her headmistress. And they call it love lol.... Plenty of scenes like that.
And another favourite, Dil Se... Bloody hell. SRK stalks Manisha's character all over Assam when she clearly doesn't like him at all!!! D: They have no boundaries, healthy courtship is not portrayed. Consent, etc.
I mean, not all Indian films are like this. But too many of them are.

Omg, never heard of him but that sounds pretty gross.

It's a culture where the males think they are above all women.

I saw an Indian guy talk to 2 Indian girls on a plane trip like they were his slaves and he got them to do everything for him for the whole plane trip.

No English subs but I got the message haha. I laughed at the Apun bola scene (I like that song but never seen the movie). It's true though... This is what the movies teach boys is acceptable behaviour. Thanks for sharing :)

Tinder is engaging in blatant consumer fraud.

I heard about the free 'passport' feature so decided register a couple of months ago. As I had a planned to trip canned decided to set my location to various cities in a Russian-speaking country.

I noticed something very peculiar. Even in relatively remote cities there appeared to be fake profiles. Now one could just put it down to troll accounts, but given that it was happening in every city and it was so obvious, and relatively consistent in appearance, that I doubt it was a bunch of bored individuals. Most Russian-speaking women write their names in Cyrillic, the ages didn't match the photos, the job titles were bogus, and arguably they didn't look Russian either.

I stopped using it and logged on recently, surprisingly to find my location still set abroad. Again, lots of fake profiles, maybe as high as 5-10%.

Tinder may have buried somewhere in their T&Cs that they may perform 'consumer research', but the volume of bullshit profiles leads me to believe that it is a deceptive practice. People who are paying for Tinder may be getting duped... I don't know if the fake profiles disappear if you pay for Tinder but given their fraudulent behaviour I won't be volunteering to find out.

Here's a sample of fake profiles; 5-10% from what I gathered but didn't keep count.

Highly likely it's not tinder themselves but some sort of third party that creates fake profiles and then tries to re-direct you to a cam site or something similar. It's not worth tinder creating fake profiles, especially in a country that's already stacked with beautiful women.

As a side note plenty of women in countries that use Cyrillic will still post their name using the english alphabet, makes it easier when travelling etc.

i swear tinder has gotten harder, less super likes each day, judgy girls

6 years ago I was able to find a few short term dating experience, sex every few months. now no dates since February last year, single 6 years, no sex in 21 months

seems like girls are harder to crack
