Give us a pick that secures Toumpas and I bet AFC starts to talk turkey. Get it off Melbourne or GWS. I doubt we would ask for 22 then and you can keep White since he is supposedly worthy of being part of the Tippett trade.

Anything short of a decent outside running player + 22. A top 5 pick or 2 picks in the top 10 is just Bay 13 worthy.

With Tippett the Sydney team will be very hard to beat. There will be several teams interested come PSD time.
We already are very hard to beat. We are the premiers, remember?

We don't need Tippett. He'd be handy, but we'll do fine without him. Happy to see him go into the PSD and end up at GC.

I was under the impression those picks would likely go to other sides before Sydney got theirs.
Its pretty obvious he meant that club's would not be willing to give up a top 20 pick in the ND do get a player who doesn't want to play for them, that's on top of paying him 800k over 4 years, a PSD pick is pretty much a free pick

Thats fair enough logic. Its all sort of moot anyway. I don't seriously think the Crows would be willing to walk away empty handed.

Clearly the Swans disagree as they offered a contract which priced GC and Brisbane out of the market.

Which is why people thinking he won't get to us in the PSD are foolish. Our two most likely rivals are priced out.

Among the other teams, none have 800k+ of cap space just sitting around doing nothing this time of year. Very few clubs would have that flexibility when its PSD time. And of those that do, none would spend that much money on a player that wants to be elsewhere.

I'm genuinely curious to know what the reaction of Adelaide fans will be IF they don't accept our best offer and IF he goes to us in the PSD for nothing. Will you be satisfied with that? Will some kind of moral crusade be worth the same team getting him for nothing?

The draft is the only recourse that a club can take. Adelaide FC needs to take a stand otherwise it becomes the club that players can choose to leave on a whim because they trade poorly. I think Sydney will re-think the best offer.

Ireland said "next year Tippett will be on less than....." It's not a stretch to think that indicates his offer is back loaded. Carlton would find cap space to match an offer that Sydney could take up. Kurt would be dumb to nominate a 4 yr contract in the draft because a Carlton could arrange to have money/cap space available in the 3rd and 4th yr. The draft is a big risk for Kurt. If Sydney don't want him that badly they should call the deal off on Monday so we can go to Brisbane GC and now we know Sydney is home GWS for a trade.

But will you continue to be that way as your ageing players retire?
MANY of our important players have retired since the 2005 GF and we've hardly missed a beat.

Goodes and Bolton are no longer vital to our success. This year we won important games when both of those two were injured or below their best. Yes ROK played a big part in our GF win but even what he brings to the table is replaceable. All of our most important players are on the right side of 30. Kennedy, Jetta, Mumford, Reid, Hannebery and Jack are the core of this team. The core of this team is young with many years of its prime left.

Getting Tippett makes us a better team, fills our only significant weakness and makes us arguably 2013 favourites. But even without him we'll still be top 4 contenders for the next several years.

I think the point being made is that just saying a team will flatly improve or decline because of age brackets is a big disingenuous.
Losing Mcleod, Edwards, Smart, Burton, Riccuito etc etc in quick succession hurt the Crows big time. We had young up and coming players but it takes time to rebuild. Putting Tippett in the mix is very strategic for the Swans.

You mention Tippett being dumb to do certain things. Carlton would be dumb to devote big money across 4 years for a player that doesn't want to be in Victoria. And that's if they even have the space. Backloaded or not they'd have to pay him a lot in 2013 and there is no guarantee they have that.

Of course it applies to everyone else. Read the post I was responding to before you open your bitter Hawthorn trap.
I did read the post you were responding to. Mattrox made a perfectly relevant point - you dismissed it with a flimsy argument, to which I responded.

Maybe you should think before you post.

Footy is Kurts career, he might not want to be in Melbourne, but guess what? He will adapt if he wants to keep playing footy
