Agree that Adelaide should not accept anything less than what he is worth . But what he is worth is only what someone will pay. By offering tippett a substantial contract Sydney have priced everyone else out of the market.

There would appear to be no other bidders in the auction. So then Tippett them becomes worth what sydney will pay.

Brisbane and GC have both said they have moved on. Who else is in play.
Are you sure? If i was Carlton i would pick him up in the ND/PSD and match whatever Sydney is offering. You back yourself in that you can get him to stay, if not you put him up for trade next year in a great bargaining position

I know what they've offered was insufficient to the point that David Noble would indicate the Crows were going to look elsewhere or send him to the PSD before accepting it. Put it this way, he didn't sound particularly positive about the way negotiations were travelling with Sydney, it's quite easy to piece together why that would be the case.
Fine, but you have no idea of the specifics, like the rest of us. Your club is attempting to get the best for it, and we are doing the same. All the other talk is fuelled by emotion and speculation without any basis in fact.

A lot of rage in this thread based on very, very little information. How about people calm down until the clubs actually provide something more than very vague pieces of information on how the negotiations are progressing?

There's still 2 weeks of trade week to go, and trade week has a history of clubs springing up unexpected and doing deals no-one saw coming. Wouldn't be surprised if we see that in this instance. So much water to go under the bridge yet, but let the speculation continue............

One thing we can safely say from all this is that Sydneys 'reputation' as fair and reasonable traders is well and truly out the window! They knew they had no early draft picks and also weren't willing to part with any of its first 22 players or young talents. Yet they still went up to the Gold Coast to see Tippett 2 days after the Grand Final offering him bucket loads of cash on a big 4 year contract when he was basically preparing for pre'season with the Suns or Lions. They knew they wouldn't be able to even remotely fairly compensate Adelaide yet they still did it anyway. I and I'm sure most of the other clubs supporters have lost all respect for them.

I think that this has to be the case. Wait and see.

However I think this finally puts pay to the "Sydney has a Moneyball strategy".

You need to get a life buddy!

You're obviously obsessed & distressed by this..............along with some of your fellow supporters. You've made countless repetitive posts on the matter which may suggest you need counselling on the loss of Tippett.

There ARE worse things in life. Let's just wait & see how this all turns out. Who's to say that we are owed by the Crows on a previous season's trade Or thatperhaps next year or the following year we may give the Crows overs when the shou is on the other foot.

As supporters, we've ALL actually got NO IDEA!

You are one of the most hysterical posters in this thread. You are doing your own club no favours in terms of reputation. What Sydney have done is what Adelaide would be doing if the tables were turned. Stop trying to gain the moral high ground with your emotive and inaccurate use of language.

We wouldn't go after a big fish if we had nothing to give in return. You claim to be 'fair and reasonable traders' yet I have seen no proof of this.

Haha, what's with this sudden obsession with "This disproves Sydneys X, Y, or Z" that you guys have started up with? Sydney's trade reputation is built on allowing contracted players to go for unders, and offering overs to target a player where possible. One trade does nothing.

The reality is that syd cannot be criticised for an audacious bid ti win tippetts commitment which has been supported by a ruthless trading strategy.

That we have not been able to engineer a strategy to combat this speaks only of our immaturity. Footy ops mgr said on radio we knew this was coming, yet the strategy appears to have been nothing better than hope syd will do the right thing. Incredibly nieve and reflective of a managment whose selection process goes no deeper than the SANFL old boys club. Suburban thinking for a national competition.

Interesting point of view. A little too rational :(

Unless a deal is confirmed all talk of Sydney's trading reputation is speculation.
I speculate that the speculation of Sydney's speculated offerings is in my opinion "unders", and furthermore I speculate that Sydney's reputation in the eyes of most other supporters is tarnished, and dust in the wind.

So who will likely get him in that case?
My guess is Sydney. I wouldn't risk it if I were Carlton/Brisbane/Gold Coast.

However that's with me still thinking he's homesick but clearly he's not. He may devote himself to any club willing to pay for him. Sydney may have exposed that by offering him a large amount of money. Understandably Carlton may not have bothered before thinking he just wanted to go home.
