Because Sydney will have withdrawn from the race? Notice I said this was conditional on Sydney quitting. With Sydney out, he can't go back to Adelaide, so his choice will be the pursuing GWS - who will have beaten Sydney in their game of Trade-Draft-Bluff - or possibly the Gold Coast, if they come back into it. He may pick the GWS anyway, but hhaving won one round, GWS will want to get it done before anything else can go wrong.
Yes, but even if we withdraw, Tippett can still put a large price tag on his head, and go in the draft. So why take 600 a year from GC, when he can force someone to pay him a million a year in the draft?

Are you guys in a position to wait for the drafts though?

A lot of capspace tied up on a punt, especially with Josh Kennedy yet to re-sign. Surely from a list management perspective the Swans will want to know what they are committed to before the end of the Trade Period?

Can you guys afford the $1m price tag? Ireland said he wont be paid that much next year.

It's a possibility. I don't really think he has the spine for it though, especially since he could still end up in Melbourne that way, as unlikely as it is.

I was referring to GWS taking Tippett in the draft, though no doubt if he fell to us we'd snap him up. And I don't think that our management would mind holding off on signing Joey until Tippett was finalised.

This is turning into one big game of poker. I do find it a bit funny though that SOS is talking up GWS as a player in all this but hasn't indicated that GWS have even spoken to Kurt.

Doesn't Kurt sorta have to agree to want to play for GWS for them to even be relevant in this conversation?

Its all about publicity, taking some space away from Sth up here in the papers. Reminding Sydney theres another team.

And stealing Sydney's thunder is such great publicity for Sheedy too.
More likely that they want an experienced midfielder and will use a pick in the teens to get Tippett to Sydney for a Swans midfielder and a couple of other mature body players.

Despite all the quotes from Silvangi, their actions still indicate they don't want another KPF for $800,00 a year and this will be used as leverage for another deal.

They can take him in the PSD/ND if they can match his contract demands.

I think they'd take him in the PSD for free, even if he was reluctant to play for them.

Only to the same extent that the Crows have to agree to the trade as well. I would've thought GWS (if they are willing to satisfy his salary demands) would be the ideal outcome for all parties. Kurt gets to 'go home' to his family in Sydney, and the Crows get the 1st round pick(s) they were after.

Sheedy is as cunning as. I don't doubt for a minute he is ready and hovering, and KT would be a great fit at the Giants, and maybe not the worst outcome for him.

The Giants may not have the same wages to offer KT, but they've got superior draft picks to offer up in exchange to the Crows, if GWS decide to jump in ahead of the PSD that is.

The heat is on the Swans now.

Can't see it being a good strategy. Might be good for a headline, but a massive risk for the club.

The biggest issue GWS will face is homesickness. They need a tight-knit bunch who love the club, and have bonded with each other, or there is going to be an exodus in 3-4 years time. Even SOS said they were looking for players who would be there for 7-8 years. Tippett say he doesn't want to go to GWS. What is that going to do to morale if GWS take on a high-payed player who doesn't want to be there. Can they risk him not buying in, and setting a bad example to the young kids? If they relegate him to the reserves, all it does is show bad player management.

Would be a very, very risky move for any other club to take him if he doesn't want to go, but especially so for GWS.

Yeah but I imagine all things being equal he'd rather play for the current premiers rather than the current wooden spooners.

GWS would not have the homesickness issues with Tippett. He has already justified that Sydney is "home". As for selecting a destination club, he is not a free agent. GWS already said they tried to get players but could only get picks. They are indicting that they would like Tippett. To me that is sending a clear message, deal with us an if Tippett refuses to sign we can and will pick him up. Adelaide would when be more than happy to exercise the draft threat if we can't get close to good value in a trade either with Sydney or GWS. GWS also see that a Swans player could be more likely to go to GWS since they don't have to change address.

GWS could pick up a desired Sydney player or Tippett and be happy.

Yeah that sounds about right, all about publicity, wrong time of teh year for it, and wrong way to go about it, but Sheeds is nothing if not good at grabbing a headline. Seriously, when the player says yes I'll go to GWS, I will commence to panicking immediately, or not, who cares

There are four ways it can go from here. In order of best for us

1. Sydney backs out of the chase with a quick sorry and a handshake for Tippett, like the Hawks did when they chased O'Keefe, leaving his previous 'nomination' null and void. Unlike O'Keefe, Tippett burned down all the bridges and pissed on the ashes, so he has to make a new nomination - GWS can offer the same city, and slightly less money but a similar contract length, plus they'll be looking to close the deal quickly before time runs out/someone else jumps in. They have the best picks to trade to us.

2. The above with Sydney happens, but before GWS can seal the deal Gold Coast forgets his earlier slight, and suddenly remember they still have $600k a year spare if he's interested in coming to his actual home. A decent player and pick 25 to trade to us, which is ok, and they'll still need to get the deal done before any drafts.

3. Sydney finally sucks it up, accepts why the rest of the competition thought they were out of their skulls for thinking they could make this happen for nothing, and trades one of their 40 "untouchables" out to bring in a pick inside the top 15, to send over with pick 22.

4. The whole shebang comes crashing down in a mess of flailing list managers and agents, and Tippett ends up at the GWS anyway - with pick 13, or PSD pick 1, it's a cast iron guarantee. However, we get nothing for it.
We don't have to say sorry & GWS HAVE TO match or better Sydneys offer or they don't have a leg to stand on.

Sydney have done their homework!

Trade month sure is too long.

I'm surprised Garry Lyon and Craig Hutchinson don't have a TV show devoted to it.

With Patton and Cameron already there Tippett would be a terrible fit for them. There's only so many KPF you can put in a team before they get in each others way. And if rotations are capped at 80 then having too many becomes even more of a burden.

If we don't get him I wouldn't mind him going to GWS at all because I think they'd be making a serious list error and they'll be worse off.

Trade period isn't designed for the fans and media to be an exciting extraveganza!

It's longer to assist players and teams reach deals and FA offers to assist them in acheiving the desire outcome instead of missing out and having disgruntled parties because there wasn't enough time.

Appologies to all you bored folk that peoples jobs and buisness' are getting in the way of your fapping.
