All the more reason to get everything right. Your list manager saying that just getting rid of a bloke is a win doesn't seem like getting everything right. Tippett surely has friends at the club even if he is a bit of a tool? Players in the future will remember this. They may already have second thoughts about Adelaide for the reasons you mentioned - is the current saga helping? Is it making Adelaide a more attractive destination. The idea that taking a stand and effectively threatening current or future players would be helpful is so far from the truth. Current players are a confident bunch - they won't react positively to it I wouldn't have thought.
I don't think throwing Kurt into the draft is really about making threats. Its a logical decision. Why would we strengthen a rival team if we're getting nothing out of it? Pick 22 + a fringe player is a disgusting offer. The club is right to throw it back in their faces.

Explain to me what exactly the Crows could have done to retain Tippett? He was already getting paid in our highest pay bracket (over his worth). We even brought his brother down from QLD to play for West Adelaide so Kurt would have some family here. Its not the Crows fault Kurt didn't like living in Adelaide.

As for the trade, all Adelaide wan't is fair compensation for one of the games better tall forwards. Its Sydney who are trying to low-ball us. Do you seriously expect the club to pretend they are satisfied with the trade situation just to make a few players feel a little better. Get ******.

Many of your fellow supporters have talked about it showing other players that they can't walk all over the club. The idea is to not take a stand like this but make it so players don't want to walk all over the club. That is what seems to be being missed here.

You probably couldn't do anything. The point is whether now sinking the boot in is making it more or less likely that it will happen again ...

Yes. Of course. What creates a better impression? Saying "we didn't get what we were after but after 6/7 years of service is was important that we helped Kirt get where he wanted to go". Or saying "he didn't want to play for us so we are glad to be rid of him and he can rot at GWS for all we care".

What's also really werid is you have a list manager saying just getting rid of him is a win - and then making trade demands. Not the greatest negotiator is he? Why aren't you guys more annoyed at that?

White plus the first rounder for Tippett is something I'd be happy with. White gets a chance for a new start and maybe turn his career around. They get a good kid (if they draft well) and we get a piece to help us stay where we are.

It might not be equal value for them but better than nothing considering he's out of contract and we had a reasonable chance of drafting him anyway.

Of course you'd be happy. Your club isn't the one who was deceived and has now been potentially screwed.
This would be a very poor outcome for us, but I think the GWS thing was a red herring anyway. Oh well, life goes on and we get to return the Sydney generosity one day.

I think Adelaide dragging out the negotiations over a delist candidate last year before getting a good KPF prospect just after he'd gotten over his injury troubles might have acquired some credits.

If you're referring to Johnston, then yes we got an excellent SANFL player. There's that famous Sydney generosity again. Armstrong was a fair swap.

I still hope this isn't right, but as I posted yesterday, it seems to already be a done deal. Jesse White could also be a master troll...
I hope so. I'd prefer only pick 22 and keep his salary stashed away for the abundance of awesome players coming up for free agency next year.

2013
Franklin, Mitchell, Hodge, N Riewoldt, Watson, Wells, Petrie, Cooney and Carrazzo.

Kurt Tippett controls his Swans future

I'm a bit uncomfortable how a non-free agency player can just demand where he'll be playing next year. Makes it impossible for the ex-club to gain any leverage or value.
Yeah funny that. A player honouring his contractual obligations and then wanting to have a say in his future.

Sucked in to GWS trying to throw their hat in the ring and making a lot of noise without bothering to inquire to Tippetts manager.

If you like that deal, what about Kennedy for pick 19 and Jeansch? You are happy about it because you are on the favourable end. Of course the person in that position says "oh I'd take that trade" .

23 in reality is not that much better than nothing.

Pick 23 is only a fraction better than getting nothing in the draft by a poofteenth of a millimeter.

Even if they contacted him why would he take the call. Tippett is still trying to get to Sydney.

Clubs have leverage if he was still contracted. But it's always been a fact of trading that you can't force a player to go somewhere he doesn't want to go and you'll always be weakened if the player is out of contract. Adelaide isn't a special case, the same applies to everyone

Funny how every other player in the comp, with a very few accepting need to give 8 years service to a club before getting free agent privileges. This completely undermines the whole basis of trading out of contract players.
