2 Year deal according to the Hun.

http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/ku...pre-season-draft/story-fnelctok-1226534029347

KURT Tippett will earn about $70,000 a game at Sydney next year in a deal to be confirmed at today's pre-season draft.

Tippett's agreement will be activated when he is taken at pick No.11, but the Swans will get no discount for the former Adelaide Crow, who will start 2013 with an 11-game ban. The Herald Sun can reveal Tippett will sign only a two-year deal. He lodged a short agreement for fear he might be picked by a rival club.

He will sign a deal between $800,000 and $1 million in the first year, but significantly less in the second season. Sydney and Tippett scared off other clubs with talk of a four-year agreement reputed to be worth $3.55 million. But only two clubs - the Swans and GWS - asked the AFL for the terms required to recruit him. The Giants were told by salary cap boss Ken Wood they did not have the room in their total player payments to sign him.

The AFL confirmed yesterday Tippett could not play in a state league or feeder competition before Round 12 next year, which means he might need games in the NEAFL before his Swans debut. Factoring nine home-and-away games and two finals on an estimated $800,000 in his first year, Tippett will be paid just over $70,000 a game. The base wage for a rookie this year was $49,000. The average AFL salary in 2011 was $236,000.

Tippett will answer questions for the first time about the Adelaide salary cap saga in Sydney tomorrow. The Swans have drawn the ire of rivals for their ability to pay for Tippett. But Sydney has spirited away salary cap room for several years in preparation for free agency. Sydney will have six veterans on its list next year - which each save them $112,000 in the salary cap - and have moved on nine players. Five of those, including Mark Seaby, Jarred Moore and Trent Denis-Lane, were on reasonable contracts.

Sydney has also been front-ending some contracts in recent years. Well-paid stars Barry Hall, Michael O'Loughlin and Brett Kirk have retired in recent seasons, making further room in the salary cap.

So... the clubs don't actually know what he wants, they just get told if they can afford it?

i reckon that's about the perfect ending. hey AFL, he still doesn't qualify as a free agent!

thank **** he got 11 games as a penalty.

The AFL better amend some of their rules to stop this kind of rubbish happening again. First stop Sydneys cost of living allowance.

I wonder how far you could push that. Could we get a player that wants to come to us to simply refuse to sign his contract, then come here on a five year deal where we pay him $2M in the first year and $100 per year after that?

Meanwhile we just negotiate all of our other contracts so that the $2M they don't get that year is spread over the next few.

Obviously an extreme example, but I'm amazed that kind of thing is allowed at all. I wonder how far it could be pushed?

Edit: I like the way he's being offered considerably more in the season where he's already suspended for half of the games. It seems a bit absurd that the AFL goes to such lengths to ensure that trades represent market value, yet contract offers are not held to the same standards.

Exactly. I'm thinking this little "deal" is just as tainted as his last only this time the afl give it their blessing. It's absolute bullshit is what it is.

Sydney have no choice in the matter now. They will pick Tippett if he is available.

Ah, perhaps that is their punishment in all this? Despite all that they now know of Tippett and his family, they are forced to select him regardless of whether they changed their mind or not. Delicious!

Fancy paying a player that sort of money for only playing half a season! Makes no commercial sense whatsoever. AFL you are absolutely brainless for allowing this. Makes the whole competition a laughing stock.

But as someone said at least Sydney get their come uppance.

Who's this free agent they have recruited?

BTW does anyone know what it would take for a half year suspension to revert to a whole year suspension? What would have to happen, court cases aside?

Yeah, the reigning premiers get a proven key forward for PSD pick 11 who will kick his share of goals and help take the pressure off of Sam Reid. Sucked in Sydney!!!!

Re-sign Tippett and get trigg to put a secret clause in the contract agreeing to guarantee Tippett $<insert amount> if he can't get any AFL sanctioned third party deals and to trade him to the team of his choice for a second round pick. The trick here is to not tell the AFL about this secret clause and make sure trigg puts that in writing and send it to Tippetts manager - make certain that trigg puts "don't tell the AFL" in there somewhere.

The next step is to keep this under your hat and deny it at all costs until it breaks in the media then go straight to AFL house and attempt to make it look like you are coming clean. Now comes the hard part - you will be fined and lose draft picks but when the final decision is handed down UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES admit to any type of wrong doing and try to get trigg to act smug - this might be difficult but I reckon he can pull it off. Don't worry, the SA media will have your back and toss up some easy questions you can smash over the fence, but don't talk to the Victorian media, they are a pesky bunch especially Wilson and Quayle and they might ask some questions you are unable to answer without making yourself look bad. Also the SANFL will not ask any questions and make no comment other then "we all make mistakes".

Then, against all common sense, keep trigg as CEO even though he has been given a 6 month ban from any involvement with the AFC and AFL. Again, the SA media will eat this up and agree, but give special focus to graham cornes and steven rowe, They will be especially vocal and gushing in their praise of trigg.

Lastly put all the blame on Tippett and his evil manager felcher or blucher. (whatever, we don't need to know his correct name) and demand vengence. Turn on Tippett loudly and often and start calling him a horrible person and a shithouse footballer (even though secretly you wanted to father his children a year or two ago and forgave him all his sins after playing a top game in this years prelim. final) and any journalist saying the whole saga was disgraceful should be shouted down as Satan.

There you go - another half year suspension added to what Tippett already has and his 2013 is over before it even begins. Simple.

One last thing - do not listen to your supporters who call for changes within the management team. They are "just a noisy bunch" but just be sure to ask the sponsors what they think you should do.

That was draining.

the best part about Sydney picking him is at least we have the one up on their premier forward shold be meet comes finals time.

$70k a game for someone with a weak skull, hopefully truck tests it a few times
I'd bring back Doughty for one last spoil
