And I'm filthy he's leaving, but I suspect it'll galvanize the playing group - everyone else signed up quickly and reasonably; as Paddy said, if he doesn't want to be here, the group is better off without him.

AFGM - Please start a thread on your 'only recruit good boys' thread - I think you're onto something, and it deserves discussion.

Indeed. Day and Gorringe did a road trip back home to SA from the Grand Final in Melbourne.

I'm not saying anything about a potential trade or what, but thought I would just shed a bit of light. :)
Thanks for that mate.

So he's not announcing a team until the B&F then?

Going to the the B&F, I highly doubt it, although he will probably be in Adelaide if his brother is fit enough to play in the SANFL Grand Final.

Now that Kurt has walked out on the Crows he can set his own timetable. He needs to indicate his "destination of choice" before next Monday but he could string this out for a few more days.

Just relax, we already know the ending.

Maybe, but they were seen walking out of West Lakes subway. One grew up in the Eastern Suburbs and the other down south.

The Serious : I think we need to spend a little of Kurt's 800K bolstering Talia's contract and anyone else we need to reward for staying.

Not So Serious : Draft Fevola, pay him 250K for the one year - he plays one game (against the team where Kurt ends up), and Fev spends 100 minutes punching Kurt in the back of the head - 12 game suspension, all played well !

Love it! I would put up the $250K if I had it spare :)

You should join the staff. The club needs creative thinkers such as you.
let's have a whiparound for the 250k.

Sam Day, here we go again.

Anyway, it's not going to happen.

Kurt, Blucher and the Gold Coast wrote the script for this farce twelve months ago. As I said last night, isn't it a bit strange that Gold Coast have been so quiet. And how did Blucher think they could get away with the Collingwood bullshit, hopefully the whole Cloke family is at Eddie's mansion asking for an immediate payrise.

Malthouse confirms interest.

Blues in race for Tippett

CARLTON coach Mick Malthouse says the Blues will make a play for Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett if he is interested in a move to Melbourne.
"Of course I'm going to get involved … of course I would," Malthouse said when asked whether he would be interested in the 202cm giant.

"Tippett, [if] he wants to go to Melbourne, guess what? Carlton will put their hand up for him."

But Malthouse added he couldn't understand why Tippett would want to go anywhere if it wasn't to be closer to home.

"I always thought that Tippett was going to go back to the Gold Coast or Queensland because that's where he comes from," he said.

"Adelaide to me, are a club on the rise to the point where they finished third and [with a] half-ounce of luck, let's face it, they could have played in last week's Grand Final

"So why would he move?

"Now all of a sudden you hear Sydney or Melbourne and I just don't get that."

Why are you so hell bent on proving you are right? Fair enough to lay out the details, but to sit there and counter each and every disbeliever reeks of attention seeking. If you're correct, good luck to you. Thanks for the info.

AFGM - if your theory is true, why would we honor it?

**** them.

We are not going to get Day and Gorringe, that's just fantasy.

EDIT - Sorry EC; I read that as 'or' not 'and' - agree both is highly unlikely, but will leave the below.

I don't think it is mate.

Everyone on here constantly over rates draft picks and youth; Tippett is clearly worth considering more than either of those players - and he's hitting his prime years now; those boys are both a quite a few years away from theirs.

Tippett changes their entire team dynamic and structure - he'll straighten them up and give them someone to kick to up forward, and relieve in the ruck.

His type of player, in today's footy, is extremely rare but extremely valuable; there wouldn't be 3 of his type in the comp - which is why you've got numerous teams willing to throw millions of dollars at him.

And many thanks to all of the posters who have poured crap on me for the last two months.

I really hope we do this - none of the other lads held us over a barrel for their contracts; I'd rather we showed them gratitude and bumped them all up a bit, rather than chase a couple of mid-range players.

I'm not saying they haven't, however by so frequently and fiercely defending your story, you're encouraging it to occur...

Am I disappointed that he is gone? YES!

Am I surprised that he is leaving? HELL NO!

Do I think that he has handled this whole thing poorly? HELL YES!

If he ends up anywhere other than QLD he is a prick of the highest order.

if we are smart about this, we could come out better off than if we kept him. I wanted him to stay because I think that type of player is extremely important in modern game.

Now that he is gone he will be the biggest name in trade period and as such will huge huge currency. On top of that we have Jenkins and McKernan as that type of player but not as good. They have been stifled by Tippett's presence so this is their change to shine and I am sure one of them will step up. I rate both but in terms of contested marking and actual ruckwork, I think McKernan might get a slight edge after a big pre-season. Jenkins is a better footballer at the moment.

We will have a very different forward line structure next year so I would not be surprised in the slightest if we see a Walker-Johnstone combo. One thing is for certain, there is a key forward opening going into the re-season and there are 4 players jumping out of their skin to get that spot.

Along with the compensation for Tippett we will have $800k-$1m to play with so ladies and gentleman strap yourself in because Adelaide will be big time participants over the next month.

Who are the teams that are under salary cap pressure because now would be the time to poach some of their best players. If go into this trade period and come out of it as well as we did out of last one, we will be better off in the long term. Short term, Tippett's loss will unfortunately be felt.

Carl mentioned that no one can leave with class if we want to keep them. I disagree with that because off the top of my head I can think of Kane Johnson and Tyson Stenglein as the guys we wanted to keep but both left the club on good terms and would be welcomes back with open arms and are always considered as part of the AFC family. With Johnson with particular there was always the factor that eventually he would leave (similar to Tippett) but the way he handled it was with much more class than Tippett.

Chris Knights said that he would be pissed off if Kurt went anywhere else but GC and he didn't think the text message was the way to inform the guys. Tat text, if it is as reported, is gutless and a load of bullshit. It takes a man of character to front up his team mates and tell them face to face what his decision is. As hard as it is to do, it is the right and classy thing to do.

Well let's face it, you've acted like a bit of a punce. Credit where it's due... You got the fact that he was leaving right (well we pretty much all knew he was going). And the date right (given the club gave him until today). Now it's just down to the club (gold coast was a no brainer really) and the reward. Rowey said tonight he spoke with John Reid today who says there was no such clause. Apparently he is going to speak on the radio later this week, will be very interesting.
