Seems to be some growing love for pick 23 over the last 24 hrs, if you guys end up taking it here is some of the up side from a outsiders POV
  • Kurt is a tool and you are better off without him at your club, he was a distaction and has been for some time
  • At some point in the future a SA boy will want to come home from Sydney and you will have every right to butt **** the living daylights out of the Swans
  • Kurt's selfish nature may very well destroy the culture of Sydney
  • Pick 23 may in fact turn out to be a better player and human being than Kurt
  • Hopefully the AFL see this as blatant tampering and revise the rules to prevent such a injustice happening again (but not before you, enact point 2 :D)
Unlikely to be a better player. Not difficult to be a better human being.

Frankly, I'd rather see the club show the balls to send him into the drafts, where we know he won't be going to Sydney. Hope he enjoys dressing up like a traffic cone.

I agree too, we definitely have the cover but its more to do with Principle and the future.

Look at how the Gunston trade went down and potentially this one....other clubs will think they can walk all over us.
In addition you wouldn't let him go to the draft without being quite certain someone would not pick him up.

I agree but it seems we are happily embracing our status as a feeder club. :(

I think we should go on the attack. I know they're contracted, but we should be getting in the ear of players like Jetta and Rohan, tell them we'll double their salary if they'll demand a trade to adelaide, and ONLY adelaide. At the very least, it will force Sydney to pay these blokes more.

We've got all of Tippetts 800k four year contract sitting there. Lets target someone for gods sake. Instead of sitting here and cropping it from Sydney, lets show that they're not the only ones with buckets of cash. Tippett has now shown us exactly how to lure players back to Adelaide. Just have the player or management refuse to speak to port, or anyone else.
They can demand all they like. They're contracted for 2013 so Sydney is under no obligation whatsoever to release them. Also, as they're already under contract, they won't be getting an extra cent until their contracts expire.

How about this

I, cammo6556, take you, missus cammo6656 to be my wedded wife. With deepest joy I receive you into my life that together we may see the crows once again win a flag. As is Sando to His body, the church, so I will be to you a loving and faithful husband. Always will I perform my headship over you even as Tex does over me, knowing that His Lordship is one of the holiest desires for my life. I promise you my deepest love, my fullest devotion, my tenderest care except during footy season when the crows are playing or any team for that matter. I promise I will live first unto the Crows rather than others or even you. I promise that I will lead our lives into a life of football and tapatalk and hope that Tippett goes to GWS. I pledge to you my life as a loving and faithful crows supporter.
Ill have the celebrant print that up for me immediately. Haha

The chances of another team picking him up against his will are less than slim. It would take a minor miracle to prevent him getting to Sydney. There almost seems to be a gentlemen agreement between clubs to allow it to happen.

Here, here, I must admit I totally agree, but then again it's not my side missing out on the pick. Too easy for me to say stick it to them.

The arrogance of his managers comments that he is "supremely confident Kurt will be at the Swans" just grates on my brain, it should not be allowed. But once again that is easy for me to say.

Pick 23, in AFL terms, is not 'effectively nothing'.
In this context, it's as good as nothing. This is about making a stand on principle. Yes, we might get burned this time, but we'll come out better off in the longer term. Short term pain, long term gain.
Letting Tippett leave the club for free would be a disaster.
It's not ideal, but it's only marginally different than letting him go for the manifestly inadequate pick #23.
Either he gets traded there, or he goes there for free because they're the only ones he'll play for, and coincidentally, are probably the only ones happy to pay him his asking price.
This is where you're wrong. What he wants is one thing. What he gets, when he nominates for the ND or PSD, is entirely another. GWS and Carlton are both capable of meeting his contractual terms - and both have picks before Sydney. Tippett might not be happy about going there, but I'm sure he'll grow to love the colour orange.

Nothing ruins 'culture' faster than forcing a player to stay, when they've publicly declared they want to leave.

Soft spot for Brisbane
You absolutely never give anything away for free in business. Port did it, and look at them. Congrats on the moral high ground, but hows you balance sheet.
Balance sheet is one more premiership than us since they took the Stevens stand.

who the hell is going to take 2nd and 3rd round picks in this draft?
There are some clubs who are going to take 5, 6 or 7 players in this draft. Happens every year. I haven't been following the delistings closely enough, but trust me, there will be some clubs for whom an extra 2nd and/or 3rd round pick could prove useful. Last year there were 8 clubs who had 5 or more "live" selections in the ND, I expect a similar number this year.

what part of "he refuses to speak to anyone but Sydney" don't you understand? The only way he gets to anywhere apart from Sydney is in the PSD, unless the AFL step in and mediate, which they wont.
Lots of people make ambit claims in a negotiation like 'i refuse to speak to anyone' or 'here's pick 23 and a list clogger, take it or leave it'
My concern with the AFC approach to date is that we've done nothing to shake loose these positions and accepted them at face value.

Kurt Tippett probably does refuse to speak to anyone else, it'll be interesting to see how he was holding up a week after being told that unless Sydney come up with better picks he's in the PSD. It'd be interesting to see how Sydney would be acting if we'd given every club in the competition advance notice that they'd have a good chance to pickup Tippett in the PSD. Perhaps they'd be concerned someone might be able to find a big enough wallet to buy Kurt's affections.

Yes i'd be happy to send him to the PSD if push comes to shove but as much as anything else the serious prospect of the Crows doing so (which absolutely no one believes atm) would've served as a useful bargaining tool

Seems to be a very difficult concept for people to grasp.
I think most people understand it.

However, the point is he refuses to speak to anyone other than Sydney at the moment. Perhaps, as trade week draws to a close and he stares at the very real possibility of ending up at GWS via the PSD, he might think about letting Blucher know that maybe, you know, it wouldn't be that bad if maybe Brisbane or someone more desirable than the Giants could table an offer the Crows would accept.

At the moment Tippett's destiny is still in his hands. He could very quickly lose control of that destiny, and then it won't matter that he refuses to speak to GWS, or anyone else.

Nah. The odds, for a player of Tippett's calibre, are excellent. Worst comes to worst, they trade him (as a contracted player) after 12 months on the list - in which case they get to upgrade a PSD pick to 2x 1st round selections. It's a no-lose situation for them.

And while there might be a gentlemen's agreement between the clubs, Tippett's actions have shown him to be a man who is dishonest, disloyal and completely lacking in integrity. Gentlemen's agreements do not apply to pond slime such as he.

In actual fact Port Adelaide were not a laughing stock at all when they stood up to Collingwood over Nick Stevens, I even grudgingly respected their stance while the whole footy world agreed with them. It's not about pick 22 this year, it's about our reputation for trades in the future that is important here and no one from other clubs would denigrate us at all if we take a stand against Sydney in this instance. Pick 22, which would have a 10% strike rate at best, is a small price to pay for respect at the trade table in the future, and taking a stand might just lead to a better deal this year anyway.
I agree with much of what you're saying..
I probably lean towards PSD his ass, barely, maybe :p .. Be a tough decision to make, that's for sure..
Nick Stevens didn't get to where he wanted to go so it was all good.. But..

If Kurt (with that large $$$ on his head) got to Sydney through the PSD though..?
Hmm..

Not really. It only applies to the trade period. If/when the Sydney trade falls through he'll have no choice - he'll have to open negotiations with someone else, or get used to looking like a traffic cone.
