I don't think Gorringe is the target here. I think we are after Day.

Exactly. Gorringe has shown nothing and will probably be traded away cheaply or even delisted in the next year or 2 if he doesn't improve. We can get him easily without including him in the Tippett trade. Day is the big fish we must go after.

Just out of interest how many votes did Sauce get against the same teams??
The whole notion of using Brownlow votes as any indication is nigh on ridiculous.

According to the Brownlow count Giles is as good a player as Taylor walker, better than Chris Judd, better than Sandilands, twice as good as B Gibbs....etc etc.

But in answer to you question...Geelong and Port...but remember, pretty hard to get a vote against Thommo danger Sloane even though you might be the ruckman feeding them the ball with the most hit outs to advantage in the entire AFL.

We must agree to disagree here. I have never rated Kurt as the superstar so many on here, including you, believe him to be. He is a forward that can't kick straight and a very average 2nd ruckman.
My view is that either McKernan or Jenkins or both may surpass Tippett as AFL footballers in time. Delusional? Strong word to use there, mate.
I know it's fashionable to knock McKernan and to say he's useless, but such prophesies come back to bite those that make them quite often.
I look forward to bumping this thread sometime down the track.

Give Mckernan a month in Tippett's old position.
Deep in the forward line whilst giving Jacobs a rest as the 2nd ruck...
He has the potential to be better than Tippett.
He needs a bit of luck with injuries/suspensions...
Some of the shit I have seen him do at South as a teenager was 2nd only to Walker at that age.
I think all Adelaide supporters need to get behind him...

Tom Wren tweeting that Bernie Vince will be on channel 9 tonight to tell us what he thinks of Tippet leaving.

Can some please post about it. No channel 9 here in backwater Tassie:oops:

Firstly.. ask the admins, they set the rules not the mods. Secondly, it's a PG13 site, not an Adults Only 18+ site. Thirdly that language is offensive to many people, including myself. It's also completely unnecessary. If you can't express yourself adequately without resorting to foul language then you need to grow up and expand your vocabulary.

I think my moral compass got busted in the last 48 hours.

I am very passionate about the AFC and Adelaide.

I didn't appreciate that he left taking a shot at both of those things.

I don't mind players leaving for money or the go home factor.

However IMO he crossed a line with me and a line with many supporters.

I just cannot believe the exodus of players over the last few years
Losing Kurt, Davis and Bock has really set back our club.

IMO the latter two cost us a potential flag.

We need to be ruthless and go after any A grade player that is available.

I call it as I see it. What I see is a player who has the talent but not the burning desire. Without that desire we might as well get rid of him now, because we're just wasting our time. McKernan will never be an AFL footballer unless he can find a bit of mongrel, heart and desire, which has to come from deep within himself. I don't think it's there.

At 21 Tippett didn't look much more either. He competed but looked clumsy, out of place and lacked awareness. He got given the opportunity and flourished. Mckernan hasn't had that same opportunity because of Tippett. Over the next 12 months he gets that. For the price we would be paying him and the fact we are very thin in the ruck department I dare say its more than worth holding onto him.
I agree he lacks the mongrel in him but desire I see there. Every time he gets dropped he usually performs in the SANFL and puts pressure on for selection. He would also lack a sense of belonging. Don't forget too. Tippett was also our Number 1 forward for a while. McKernan has always been 3rd in line with Walker and Tipp there. Helps when your team mates kick it to you more often.

Why not go after both ;)

Agree, with Tippett leaving we have a little cap space, get into both kids ears, tell the with Tippett there they will struggle for a spot and that if they request a trade to Adelaide, we will reward them with a decent contract, well in excess of what they are on at the GC.

Make the trade Tippett + 19 for Day + Gorringe, or there abouts, maybe offer one of our young inside mids that struggled for a game this year. With Caddy, Toy and Jolly all likely leaving they'll be short on inside talent, something we are blessed with plenty of options. In reality Gold Coast will struggle to get these guys game time with Tippett, Smith, Lynch, Dixon, May and co around, we need to try and make this into as much of a win-win situation as possible.

Whilst I am cut up the bloke is leaving and his character may be in question his footballing ability is up there with the best forward/rucks currently in the game. I will not attack that or diminish its significance its had at the club over the time he has been here.

No they're not. These journalists keep forgetting the clause which says that GWS can take a 2nd (or 3rd) player from the same club, provided the club agrees to it. They have very short memories, given that Brisbane allowed GC to take two uncontracted players from them, just 2 years ago.

But does the *player* also have to agree to it - that is the big question.

If not (and that's what the article said) then we're basically screwed.

All for the win / win but Day AND Gorringe is hard to swallow. We are short on insude mids but of the 3 you mention only one is a gun (Caddy) and he really isn't an inside mid, we have Jaeger coming in this year and he wins his own ball and if Hunt continues to improve I think we will be OK in this area. As for the talls
  • May will return to FB
  • Smith Ruck
  • Lynch CHF
  • Dixon relief CHB and Ruck
  • Tippett, Bench ;) FF
  • Day is the worry as he is a FF but I can only assume the Suns coaching staff have worked all this out

At 21 Tippett was in his first season on our list, having played less than 20 Australian Rules games in his entire life. McKernan might have a basketball background as well, but he was brought up with a Sherrin in his hands. Comparing the two at this particular age is just pointless given the difference in their respective backgrounds.

I don't think Gorringe is the target here. I think we are after Day.
For the millionth time, forget Day. He has stated categorically that he doesn't want back to SA.

If not (and that's what the article said) then we're basically screwed.
By nominating for the ND (or PSD) the player is implicitly accepting that they could end up anywhere and they are agreeing to sign a 2-year contract with whichever team chooses to draft them. He doesn't have to agree specifically to ending up at GWS if he's already done so implicitly in signing the draft nomination form.

I've been a critic of his - but he's a baby; only turned 22 last month.

It's him or Jenkins; either of them can make the spot their own. SMcK has enormous talent - just need it to click for him mentally.
