This thread goes in roundabouts, but if we can get Gorringe + a late first rounder I'd be happy with that.
 no draft pick has to be just outside top 10 .....that could snare us Kennedy or a top KPP

Ok then Kurt's first 23 games were out of this world then?
Nowhere have I said that. Tippett was given games early on in his career when he didn't deserve them - partly because they could see his potential to be an elite talent, partly because our older KPP forwards were dropping like flies (leaving us few options). Those early games need to be seen in the perspective of a player who was still very much learning the game.

In contrast, the presence of Kurt, Tex and Jenkins has meant that Smack's opportunities have been limited - and he hasn't been fast tracked because the outrageous talent just isn't there (for the definition of outrageous talent see Tex Walker). Yes, he was brought into the side younger than Tippett (who was 20 when he was drafted), but Smack also has a much stronger Australian Rules pedigree than Tippett. Swings & roundabouts - more expected due to him not having such a steep learning curve, less expected due to younger age & less physical development.

I'm still yet to see anything which suggests to me that Smack will make it as an AFL footballer. I don't doubt he has the talent - it's his ticker that's in question.

I'll disagree .....no doubt Smack has the talent AND ticker ......IMO he just doesn't have the level of maturity YET

That happens with some ....which is why good mature players are getting picked up from state leagues

Smack last season:
1. Appears to drop concentration often, during games
2. Gives away too many sloppy free kicks
3. Pushes with his hands all the time in ruck contests ...often giving free kicks away

That said .....he is a super talent, big, quick, and a good mark ....just give him time ( i have said that alot);)

Thanks Vader - I should have been more explicit...can GWS select Tippett in the PSD AND we get compo from the AFL. I did realise that Tippett's nom for the draft (with specified terms) constitutes acceptance of whoever picks him up.
They could under the rules which applied to them for the 2011 PSD. Given that they have a 2-year window for signing uncontracted players I'm expecting the same rules to apply in 2012, but I haven't found any written confirmation of that.
I'm concerned that we only get the AFL uncontracted player compo if the deal is a trade (which requires agreement of two clubs AND one player...which won't be forthcoming). Otherwise he could go to GWS in the PSD but we'd be left with nothing.
The compo for losing a player via the PSD is the same as it is for a player GWS sign as an uncontracted player. The same formula which the AFL uses with all the transparency of a wooden door.

You'll be comforted to read para 36.11 (c) from the AFL Player Rules document:

36.11 Participation in Pre-Season Draft - 2011
(c) If WSFC selects a Player pursuant to this Rule 36.11, the Club that most recently Listed the Player shall be entitled to a compensatory selection as determined by the AFL pursuant to Rule 36.7.
Note that I have not been able to locate any equivalent rule regarding the 2012 PSD.

And it would be impossible to of seen much from interstate except for a glimpse early last year and a couple of quarters vs Port in the first showdown... But he is a kid in a mans body.. Give him time to mature. By 24-25 we will have one of the best 2ndruck/forwards in the league. He is as strong as an ox, the only 18-19 year old kid in SANFL I have ever seen manhandle SANFL ruckman like Parry-Cranston etc And he is a matchwinner. All he needs is a spot he is comfortable in and some love.

I'll let everyone know, glad this saved some time...

Do you honestly rate Day, Gorringe, Tape higher than Tippett?

Secondly, who would you select with #2, and #13 (odd)? Curious.
Day yes, I love Gorringe but can't in all fairness rate him higher than Tippett, sticky no

2 Whitfield Toumpas (spelling) or viney, pick 13 well the best of whoever is left

You'll give us Pick 2 and like it young man!

Sorry for being so harsh this whole Tippet saga is getting to me....tell you what chuck in Day as well and we will call it evens.

Now now...no need to thank me. The least i could do. :thumbsu:
It's getting to everyone, not doing himself any favours holding out like he is :thumbsu:

Everything I've heard about all this is saying Tippetts gone to Sydney. Who have they got to give us I can't see anything on their list we would want. If we can't get a deal done he is just going to go GC for free. He has seriously f****d us over. We have to be the most agressive at the trade table like never before. If it was me I would demand pick 2 and what ever they get in the Caddy deal. F**k I'm angry:mad::thumbsdown:

Have faith Brassy, AFGM assures us the GC deal is in the bag.

I must admit, I keep coming across the Sydney pieces too. Seems like he's set for there rather than the Coast.

I'm sure AFGM will go down fighting though. :D

I just hope this doesn't keep happening that we draft someone and go home for money and lifestyle reasons because if it does every year where never going to win a premiership.

My take on the whole Tippett phenomenon as posted on our board

I am starting to think we are caught up in the " farmer wants a wife" mentality here with Tippett, all the girls think they are in love with the farmer as they don't want to be the one that isn't picked, so they faun and beg and eventually one of them wins him and then she realises he's JUST ANOTHER DUMB A@&$ FARMER

Suns won't bend you over, can't talk for the pies, blues or swans
Swans and Crows have had a great trading relationship for many years ....Sydney well respected

Collingwood & Carlton

Not sure how demanding 2 and Caddys pick is going to work if he is in Sydney my friend, plus playing hard a$$ at the trade table always come back to bite you, EDIT you make your "demands" we drop out and Sydney give you a hand full of marbles or worse he goes into the draft
