Do you really suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder?
There was a "Gentleman's Agreement" at the end of 2009 that if Kurt extended his current one year contract to a three year contract then Adelaide would trade him to the Gold Coast Suns at the end of 2012 if Kurt wanted to go home. The compensation for the trade would be comparable to the compensation for losing a player to Gold Coast at the end of 2010. No, it wasn't written in the contract, but the agreement was well known to Kurt and his management, the AFC and the GCS.
At the end of last season the AFC saw the writing on the wall. They desperately tried to get Kurt to sign a new contract but he said he needed more thinking time. Knowing that the Gold Coast was his desired destination the Crows tried to quietly negotiate a deal with the Lions but they didn't take the bait. Gold Coast countered by offering a "Contract" to Kurt at the end of last year (yes Wayno, that would be in writing).
So what's happening now? Even the AFC can't work out exactly why he has been applying for "Tool of the Week". They are still negotiating with the Gold Coast about the appropriate compensation for Kurt. Ignore the sabre rattling, the fact that the GCS finished 17th has dramatically reduced the threat of the AFC ignoring the "Gentleman's Agreement". The GCS can try to screw us in the pre-season draft but that would be just provoking a club with a bag of bank notes in their pocket.
Nothing has changed from an AFC point of view. Bookmark It, Wayno.
I was looking over the
other thread and really got very confused with everything you came up with. You have been all over the shop so I really don't know what to think. Here's a taste:
_______
I think it is naive to believe that Roo is just looking for a bit of publicity. My guess is that Roo is helping the AFC to bring this to a head.
Apparently we have offered $650 - $700,000 p.a. over 5 years. If he isn't going to take this, which is on the generous side, then he doesn't really want to stay. This offer was made before his third concussion so I suspect that there is no way that we will up the offer. If he goes down early next year then we will have to live on a reduced salary cap for the next 5 years (That's worked really well for Brisbane with Crazy Vossie's Fevolution).
What happens if he decides next week that he wants out? We can't win the flag without him but on the other hand we probably can't win the flag with him. You need the team closely bonded to get your best effort and knowing that one of your best players is about to take the money and run will not be helpful.
The AFC has always done the right thing by our players (Bock, Davis and Gunston) but it has not helped us much up to now.

There is no chance that he will leave. Just the normal argy bargy that occurs when gun players negotiate a new contract. We have only lost players in recent years because the coach "lost" the players. Money or the go home factor will not be a determining factor.

It sounds like we will not allow him to get away with that.
If he is leaving, which I do not accept, the out for both parties will be for us to rule him out for the season due to the concussions and he then announces that he is going.

Is it possible that Kurt signed a contract with Brisbane or Gold coast at the end of last season?

P.S. I still think Kurt will stay, he has an outstanding relationship with his coach and money or the go home factor will not play a major role in his decision.

The "negotiations" have followed a very similar pathway to all the players listed above. If Kurt signed with Gold Coast or Brisbane at the end of last season how do you think things would have played out?

Prepare to be very disappointed and very surprised.
Some people at the club know exactly what has happened and I suspect that they will not hold back this time. There was no witch hunt when they found out that Phil Davis had signed with GWS at the end of 2010, the anger increased when they realised
that Hawthorn had stiched up Gunston in the middle of the 2011 season but they will be white hot with anger when it becomes public that Kurt did a deal at the end of last year.
The off season will be very memorable this year.
P.S. One of the trainers is not a source. A board member is a source.

Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that the CEO received information that a player had signed with another club (e.g. Tom Scully at Melbourne). Who is the CEO obliged to inform
1) The Board - absolutely
2) General Manager Football operations - probably
3) Senior Coach - possibly

It is not that simple.
No-one at the AFC has seen the contract but concerns that arose during last year's trade period have been confirmed over the last 8 weeks.
The loophole was first used by the Gold Coast at the end of 2009. It was used by the Gold Coast to sign some uncontracted players at the end of 2009. My source is impeccable (Andrew D).
.....
Eventually rumours come out from the other club (refer to Ablett and Scully). The Crows were hearing the same things since the end of last year.
You join the dots......................................................................

CEO or Board Member?
There are ways for two parties to come to a binding agreement without having it in the AFL contract.
P.S. Clearly you are not talking to the same person(s) as me RnR.

On the other hand, the "arrangement" may have included a third party. Now such an agreement may not hold up in a court of law but reneging on the deal has enormous ramifications for future trading with not only the Gold Coast but all other clubs.
