I'd say the only logical reason why you wouldnt just offer him the extra money is that Adelaide were probably banking on their being triggers for finals bonuses & possible grand final bonuses that would have taken them pretty close to cap limit in 10 & 11. Its easy to look and see space in the cap in hindsight.
That is spot on.

We have to take our minds back. 2010 was the coming together of all of The Messiah II's planning and was going to be a glorious, glorious thing. We were smarter than the other teams, we had discovered that cycling was the secret to football and the other teams hadn't caught up yet. The actual results of 2010 completely floored us.

Phil Harper: Ok… Team Selection: Round 7 versus Richmond… Neil, you want to kick things off?

Neil Craig:

Phil Harper: Neil?

Neil Craig: (quietly) Where did it all go wrong?

Phil Harper: … Neil?

Neil Craig: (in a daze) This season. We sat in this very room after the Collingwood final last year and set the foundation for a premiership assault. We had the players, we had the firepower up forward… the perfect mix of youth and experience. “Why trade when we already have the best list?” I remember saying those exact words. Now… we’re in a fight to the death for the wooden spoon with bloody Richmond. (long sigh)

Phil Harper: Ahh, Neil… selection meeting?

Neil Craig: This was meant to be my crowning glory, you know? We’d been building for six years. 2010 was the culmination…

Mark Bickley: (punches air) Culmination.

That confirms it - he's heading to GWS via the PSD.

The AFL will be jumping for joy.
Still taking bets that thats where he'll end up. AFL wouldnt have it any other way.

GREATER Western Sydney last night said that it would be interested in Kurt Tippett if he entered the draft, while Gold Coast may also re-enter the market. ''If he was in the draft, we'd certainly have to look at him,'' said GWS list manager Stephen Silvagni.

The AFL has called Deloitte in to assist in an audit of the Adelaide player payments in what is expected to be a detailed and complex examination.

I'm merely just pointing out the other side of the story to Vader; whenever there is a dispute like this there are always two sides, which arguments you make depends on which side you are on.

But still, if we're going to be hit hard by this scandal it's for the possible salary cap breaches. Now Carlton blatantly and deceptively overpaid about 9-10 of it's star players. Our situation involves one player. Carlton exceeded the salary cap by a fair margin, whereas the word here is that we did not go over the salary cap, but merely made a deal on the side which was not disclosed to the AFL.

So while it's all doom and gloom on here (BF), the AFL won't go mental here and penalise us too hard, because word is even they accepted that the penalties on Carlton were too harsh. I'd be more than happy for the Crows to receive just a fine, particularly if it means Tippett and Co cop it as well!
I will just correct you on a few facts. Carlton did not over pay 9-10 players or did they exceed the salary cap by a fair margin. Carlton paid a player called Stephen O'Reilly the amount of $115,000 (which was his contract) as they delisted him with a year to go on his contract. This amount was paid via a third party and was not included in the salary cap. As it turned out Carlton could have included it in the cap as they had space that year. The other player investigated was Fraser Brown, he told the AFL where to go and nothing was ever proven. The AFL told Carlton if they came clean on any other breaches they would go easy on them. There was arrangements in place to pay Silvagni and Williams payments outside the cap, this money was not paid and it was because Silvagni was making noises about money owing that there were rumours of such payments. The club told the AFL of these arrangements and then got wacked so severely to make an example of us. The AFL at the time said that no other club would want to break the rules in the future because the penalties would be severe. So effectively Carlton got penalised almost out of existance over a payment of $115,000. The money was eventually paid to Williams and Silvagni after the penalties, they had been punished already so they may as well pay them. Carlton had previously had minor infringements, one relating to a veteran payment of about $40,000 and another minor one.
On the other hand Melbourne had breached the salary cap by about $1 million in one year and were paying David Schwartz and Garry Lyon under the table payments. Their penalty was no where as severe as Carlton's. In fact it was the year that Jeff White had been traded from Fremantle, the draft pick that Melbourne lost was given to Fremantle as compensation.
As it turns out a Carlton player has been deregistered before, it was Greg Williams who had 2 contacts when he was with the Swans. (they breached to salary cap too). Williams was de registered for 6 weeks, but when he was traded to Carlton.
The AFL will not take this lightly, especially if they have been lied to.
Expect an enormous lettuce leaf to be brought out and a severe wack with it.

I would be astounded if Rob Chapman or the Board had any knowledge of the secret deal. Whilst he is hardly a CPF, I know Rob and I believe he is both honest and ethical.

I would also like to apologise to Jenny. If the Chairman and the AFC Board didn't know what was happening then it would be unfair to criticise your sources.

What I still can't understand is why we haven't tried to trade for other quality players since we have an extra $800,000 p.a. to spend over the next 4 years. Losing draft picks this year is disturbing but hardly a fatal blow given that our first pick is at 20. I would elevate Rory Laird if we lose this pick since I believe he would go higher than 20 in this year's draft. Hopefully we can at least participate in the rookie draft.

There are too many stories to keep up with. It says we can trade him. They must do the deal with Brisbane, its the only way they can save anything from this mess.
How can we though, isn't Sydney still Kurt's nominated club? Or have they retracted their offer on the record somewhere?

Stop Kidding yourself, he was never taking the Crows or the AFL to court.

His old man has money, but not that much. The AFL and the Crows would send this to one court after another and it would basically bankrupt him. Tippett sent in the Lawyers as a massive scare tactic.

He will have massive reservations about getting to Sydney now and will be looking at other options. Sydney have also allegedly lost interest in him. We will trade him tomorrow, it will just depend on how much we get.
It doesn't matter whether the legal action was a scare tactic or not, it indicates that he wants to go the Swans and no where else.

GO YOU CROW BOYS
**** you Triggy.

Just for AFGM's shits and giggles... I wonder what kind of agreement Craigy had to keep his job far longer than he should have. As far as the eye can see... (or Craigy will call the lawyers).

FFS - got not idea what to think anymore.

From Emma Quayle's article in The Age:

"White had done a medical screening at Adelaide but the deal was pulled by the Crows before the paperwork could be lodged after White's meeting with coach Brenton Sanderson. The Crows would have had to cull a player to fit White on their list. Sanderson is understood to have expressed reservations to president Rob Chapman, who met chief executive Steven Trigg about an hour after his return from Europe on Friday."

Thank Christ for Sando. In Sando we trust.

Not sure if they've retracted but its going to be a lot harder for him to get there. If he had no concerns about going through the draft his Dad wouldnt have threatened court action. GWS have said they will look at him.

I believe he needs to get away from Sydney, that move has too much stigma attached to it. Sydney would be mad to want that heat on them now. Plus Terry Wallace made a good point, with the AFL looking at Sydneys extra salary cap, what if they decide to get rid of it after 2 or 3 years. Kurt would still be on his massive back ended contract, they would be screwed. He needs to get home to QLD where he is going to need his family. Kurt would be shitting bricks at the moment.

Said in the $800,000 thread that given that we were still optimistic (or deluded) about re-signing Kurt up until fairly late in the piece, the big plays will wait 12 months. If we can squeeze some 2013 dollars into some 2012 contracts we'll theoretically have $1.6m to throw around at the end of next season. And this time we'll have a bit more time for planning.

Assuming we haven't got ourselves kicked out of the competition by then.

One of my favourite games ever. The sequel probably was my favourite game.
I was a bigger fan of IWD2 but BG2 was brilliant. Great memories :thumbsu:

No this is the topic now.

I'd like to cast Cloud Kill on Kurt Tippett.
Horrid Wilting was more my style :p

But back on topic, this looks worse every day. $200k outside the cap? That's a disgrace.

I hope the AFL are going to be willing to accept Trigg's immediate firing as suitable punishment, since he was apparently the only person at the Crows who was aware of this absurd deal. Oh, and a big fine, of course, but that's a given.
