The impression I get is that he genuinely wants to go home.. but isn't happy with the salary currently being offered by GC. If Sydney are prepared to offer $1M per season and GC are only offering $600k, then that's a significant difference. In the short term, he's trying to wedge GC into increasing their offer. Failing that, I think he's probably facing a genuinely difficult decision. Assuming both are willing to offer him a 5-year contract then we're talking a difference of $2M over the course of the contract. That's a lot of reasons to be signing with Sydney, despite his original intentions of going home.
I think you're on the money here Vader.
At the moment IMO Tippett is a player without a club with things not falling automatically into place as he thought they would.
I really believe he wants to go home, but he wants either of the Brisbane based clubs to match the very best money that any other team in the comp will offer - and that's not happening at the moment.
Deep down I don't think he really wants to go to Sydney or Carlton, but the conflict is that these are the only teams that might offer the sort of money he thought he would get.
That's why I think he hasn't committed to a club yet.
His real team of choice would be Gold Coast, with Brisbane as a back-up, and I don't believe that we will get Tippett to nominate his club of choice until his Manager has exhausted every attempt to wheedle Sydney type money or very close to that out of either of GC or Brisbane.
The classic case of a greedy man who wants to have his cake and eat it too.
The catch 22 for Tippett comes if the whole thing goes pear-shaped and GC or Brisbane don't increase their offers. Then he will be conflicted - does he nominate GC or Brisbane where he would really rather be at a significant cost to him, or does he accept the highest offer and play where he really never intended to be and probably doesn't want to be in the first place.
If that does eventuate, not that he would ever admit it, I wouldn't mind betting that he wished he'd never shafted Adelaide.
The problem wth this of course is that Tippett's greed impacts on Adelaide who can't even start negotiating trades as they don't know who to negotiate with. That will also hinder any other trades we had in mind with this matter not able to be finalised.
Tippett's procrastination is a pain in the arse in all respects and could prove costly to Adelaide in the trade period.
