Hope it's not Cygnus.

Uggghhh iPhone auto correct.

Maybe so, but he's clearly stagnated. You can't expect to get trade based on Tippett's potential of 3 years ago, when that potential simply hasn't been realised. We might as well expect a first rounder for Jesse White, based on that logic. Would have been a fair trade 3 years ago, not so much now.

Firstly, Reid's potential >> Tippett's reality.

Secondly, Grundy is not SFA. He's the second best key defender in the best defence in the competition. He's prone to making the occasional error by foot, which has drawn the irrational ire of some Swans fans, but he's a gun, and extremely highly rated amongst the coaches.

I think Tippett has more value than you suggest. Certainly more than Grundy.

I know 25 is old on BF. But in reality it is not old.

At least Tippett has actually shown something...

If GWS take Tippett, it will be via the PSD and we will not be compensated by them or the AFL. He is now fair game as are apparently all our uncontracted players if they decide to walk to GWS in the PSD. If Tippett was to nominate GWS we would be up in arms in protest against the AFL decision on this – the only reason Adelaide supporters are nonplussed is because it provides us with protection against GCS.

This is all hypothetical. Obviously the most likely scenario causing Tippett to end up at GWS is that a trade can't be worked out, he enters the PSD, and they grab him. The conversation ruscy002 and I are having was based on the provisio that Tippett had in fact been offered a huge contract from GWS, and was keen to sign it. I believe that in that scenario, GWS would approach us for permission to sign him as a second uncontracted player, rather than take him in the PSD, which they could obviously do anyway if we were to tell them to piss off. As I previously said, this for them, means that there are likely 2 more first round compensation picks on the market, which we could very likely on trade to them.

I see no real advantage to GWS taking Kurt in the PSD if he was keen to sign for them in the first place. At the end of the day, they don't lose anything in either scenario, and have the potential to gain more from us getting AFL compensation picks.

Especially to a team that just won the grand final.

But that is the case with any player who wants to or is prepared to go to last years spoon winner

Neil Craig is Crap = Tick for me
Kurt Tippett over rated over paid = Tick for me
Petrenko is a hack = still 50/50 but leaning towards hack
Tex is a gun = Tick for me
Smack is a gun = Looking shakey but i expect a big 2013 given bigger responsibility
Rutten is finished = was looking spot on. 1 game against Pavlich doesnt count for a full year of spuddines

Thats quite a few ticks bucko.

The irony of you making this statement.

Looks like the only one of those predictions that you have gotten correct is the tex one (which was shared with 90% of crows fans). I do also see big improvement in smack however.

Of course it's not old. But neither is he young and developing. He should be at the peak of his powers, and if what he has shown in the last couple of years is his peak, then he really has been a huge disappointment, given his early promise.

And I'd still like to know why Grundy has less value than Tippett (other than "he just does, isn't it obvious?!").

You are kidding yourself man. For most of the year Reid was absolute Poo!
Tippett>>>>>Reid and it's not even close

So you're paying Grundy $1 million a year.

A Tippett and Reid forward line will need 40 scoring shots a week to kick a winning score.

If I was fielding a team for tomorrow, then of course I'd choose Tippett over Reid. If I was selecting a team for 3 years from now, I'd choose Reid every day of the week.

Are you unaware that your team just won the Grand Final? Why the hell would you be picking a team for 3 years from now. You should be thinking of picking a team to take you to back to back flags.

I exclude fremantles early trading. Was dreadful.

Forgot the most recent Fev: pick 13 and Henderson.

The most recent similar case was mitch clark for pick 12 last year. Crows must recieve no less than that, obviously that can be done with players and draft pick upgrades.

Membling you need to tell us who the better marking key forwards in the competition are.

Tippett takes the best defender each week, often teams have a strategy to get others on to him as well, Adelaide are a team that don't bring the ball into their forwards particularly nicely and Tippett isnt a Jetta which means he gets a lot of his marks from pack and standing start clunking.

These people are very valuable, why, because you can put them near the goals and have kicks just come in on top of them, worst case a 50/50 ground ball, best case shot on goal.

Franklin cant do that! He needs to use pace and athleticism to burn people off / get them out of position. Same Pavlich. Similar Reid and Reiwoldts, especially Nick.

Brown and Hawkins are similar at Tippetts style but not as effective.

There are only two like him in the comp and they are head and shoulders above the nearest, the other is Cloke (he's slightly above Tippett) and can you refresh me to what he was worth in his contract again??

Cornesy and Rowey are going to be severely disappointed by the end of this trade period. They want pick 2 and a player.

I hate them talking during draft and trade period. They both have no idea.

Sounds like they are either trying to big note themselves or undermine the officials at the club, setting up an unrealistic expectation like this just creates angst. I suppose it then gives them something to rant about after the trade

So you're paying Grundy $1 million a year.

No, but that's why I don't want to pay Tippett $1 million a year. I'm actually hoping that, if we are indeed chasing him, journos have got their wires crossed, and we're in fact offering $1 million in the first year of a heavily front-loaded contract.

A Tippett and Reid forward line will need 40 scoring shots a week to kick a winning score.

Exactly.

I think you've made yourself clear on this point Barney. If you've got something new to say, by all means say it, otherwise we're going nowhere fast with this.

The more likely reason is that they genuinely have NFI what they're talking about most of the time.

Because it's not a case of one or the other. We just won the flag, which shows we can do it again. We don't need to throw away our future for a player we've already demonstrated we don't need.

All I've heard is that it originated from one of those annoying AFL news twitter accounts. Ill still flick over, but am expecting a replay of an old match

What kind of ridiculous logic is this? So any team that has won the flag doesn't need to do anything because they already have a team that can win it again?

By that logic we'd have the same premiers every year. This is elite sport. You either continue to improve, or you fall behind the pack - and quickly.

If you're not interested in having Kurt Tippett (or only interested in getting him for a bag of beans) then you have nothing to contribute to this thread. Time for you to move on, thanks.

Why? You've just agreed with me that he is about the pick 10 mark. And the nearest player would be Mitch Clarke.

I'm just discussing his worth. As stated previously I'd prefer we don't get him.

P.S. you should really check out Reid's contested marking...
