No-one at West Lakes expected Tippett and Blucher to have played things in the way that they have. Prior to the Preliminary Final Gold Coast were absolutely certain that things would go according to plan. They had a contract with Kurt and an agreement with the AFC, what could possibly go wrong?

I don't know the answer, speculation is that Coast tried to add some protection in the contract should Kurt's concussions re-occur. Whatever the reason, Blucher decided to shop Tippett around to demonstrate his market value to Gold Coast.

The smart money is still on Gold Coast.

AFGM, is it possible that the GC got cold feet with the head knocks and the poor form in the later part of the year (apart for last final) and decided to add something to the contract as you have suggested to ensure that Kurt would be offended and look elsewhere, there by getting us out of the contract without looking like the bad guy. If so it is a very smart move

Looks like the only one of those predictions that you have gotten correct is the tex one (which was shared with 90% of crows fans). I do also see big improvement in smack however.

Of course it's not old. But neither is he young and developing. He should be at the peak of his powers, and if what he has shown in the last couple of years is his peak, then he really has been a huge disappointment, given his early promise.

And I'd still like to know why Grundy has less value than Tippett (other than "he just does, isn't it obvious?!").

Of course Grunday has less value than Tippett. It's simply supply and demand.

There are dozens of 193 cm key defenders in the league. You lose one, another good one will come along fairly quickly. Look at Adelaide's experience here in the last 2 years - we lost an AA one in Bock, found another one in Davis, lost him, found another one in Talia. We lose Talia in the first final, Luke Thompson steps in. A good key defender is valuable, but not a hot commodity. If you have a good one, he probably gets over the league median salary, but he's not getting lottery money.

There are very few 195cm plus players who can kick over 50 goals in a season, take a pack mark, and do a serviceable turn in the ruck. So few, you can name them. Cloke. Roughead. Tippett. Maybe Clark will get there. If you have one, or you want one, it's top dollar time.

2nd best contested mark in the AFL, if he doesn't mark the ball will drop it to the foot of the contest, proven big game player, excellent second ruck providing the ultimate flexibility in the modern game... high rotations etc etc.

Strongest player at the club in chin ups for a 104 kg player is also worth a mention.

He is 2 players in one and excellent in 2 of the most important roles in the game.

Just my 5 cents worth but our compensation for losing Tippett should be directly proportional to the salary that he will be getting.

The very fact that he is attracting almost a $1M offers from Sydney indicates that he has value.

Sure some clubs needs are different to others and so hence will place a higher value on a particular player, like Pearce for Freo.

Tippett is definitely worth somewhere between $700k and $1M and so our compensation for losing him should reflect this.

Im hoping that the Crows can engineer a player and a pick.

I will say one thing though IMO we paid a player that has hardly delivered so much money, the likes of McLeod, Roo, and current players in Danger and Tex would feel slightly grieved by what was offered to a player of his caliber.
