As opposed to this thread that is full of deep and meaningful facts.
LOL. Can't argue with you there. Shall we say that the other thread dealt with a different set of questions? I think we can agree on that.
I'm disappointed that your opinions on trade possibilities Vader are impaired by you living on the other side of the country. It hasn't affected your capacity to make definitive comments about the future of players who you have rarely or in some cases never seen play the game. ;)
Funny, I don't recall making many comments about trade possibilities - at least not on players we might be looking at bringing into the club. As for those players we might be looking at trading out, I look at several things when coming to my conclusions:
  • Where are they in their development vs where they should be.
  • Where do they stand in the pecking order?
  • Are they likely to find greater opportunities at another club?
Looking at our list, I'd suggest that Riley, Otten, Martin and McKernan would all be prime trade bait. I'd love to see Jaensch traded, given that our list managers (in a moment of temporary insanity) gave him a 2-year contract, but I just can't see him attracting any suitors.

The first 3 have all shown the ability to perform at the AFL level, but all are either outside our best 22 or right on the very fringe. I'm not saying that the club would necessarily want to trade these players, but they probably wouldn't object too loudly if the players requested a trade on the grounds of "greater opportunity".

McKernan is the odd man out on that list. His career is going nowhere in Adelaide and I think his only hope of turning his career around is to seek a new club environment and hope that he flourishes there in a way that he never will at West Lakes. Yes, I'm using absolutes again - but I just can't see even the slightest possibility of McKernan turning things around in the current environment.

I think the rumours that Geelong are interested in Douglas are interesting. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Douglas traded - if we get something worthwhile in return. For example, I'd be happy to see him go if his departure paved the way for the return of Horlin-Smith to SA. I'm not suggesting that Douglas<-->H-S would be a straight trade, but it could potentially form the core of such a trade.

If Dangerfield was offered $2M a year by say the Demons to return to Victoria, do you think he would stay at the Crows?

Money is and will always continually will be a motivating factor for most players.

The elite players do have it a little bit easier as there is the opportunity to make money through endorsements and in the media. but not so for the average AFL player.
That's over a million a year difference. In most cases the difference is in the hundred thousands and plenty of players have accepted hundreds of thousands less to stay at their club. Obviously you wouldn't because it's not about loyalty or success, it's all about the money.

Get 2 kpd's A replacement and a back up. And the idea has merit. The backup could be Jenkins, Both could swap back and forward if one is struggling at the time. Opposition wouldnt know what to do some times.

I hope your club makes a stance. Boo hoo (supposedly I'm homesick) Tippett chooses any other team bar GC they should tell him to stick it unless your club is offered what he is truly worth. If he and his manager turn round and say they go to the per season draft, adelaide's pick is before Sydney's, pick him and then keep him on your books.

The only book I'd keep him on would be wrapped around his head.

There's 15 teams before the crows mate. I'm sure any number of those would snap him up.

No-one at West Lakes expected Tippett and Blucher to have played things in the way that they have. Prior to the Preliminary Final Gold Coast were absolutely certain that things would go according to plan. They had a contract with Kurt and an agreement with the AFC, what could possibly go wrong?

I don't know the answer, speculation is that Coast tried to add some protection in the contract should Kurt's concussions re-occur. Whatever the reason, Blucher decided to shop Tippett around to demonstrate his market value to Gold Coast.

The smart money is still on Gold Coast.

But, but, but he's signed a contract with gold coast twelve months ago - its a fait-accompli!

So really, lets recap what the kerfuffle:

Gold Coast
-"we stockpiled more young talent than a nightclub on a Friday night with free entry, but dont want to let any go."

Brisvegas
-"we know how this works, but like an 18 year old girl at Chanel, we like a shiny new piece of bling and will pay the retail offer"

Sydney
-"we have experienced the ultimate but like the taste and want a bit more, this Tippett Candy looks good"

Truly amazing, $kirt.

So you've finally joined the pack, Vader. If you are determined to be a pest I will provide a summary of all the Vaderisms since the start of the year. Oh wait, I can't do that or a red card will be coming my way.

Exactly a week ago I was told by all the same smart ar people on BigFooty that the "agreement" was a figment of my imagination. Keep the insults coming guys, revenge is a dish best served cold.

Not true, most were saying there was no "clause" in his last contract, which was your initial stance. You've since changed that to gentlemans agreement.

Come on, what was naive about the statement?

We will probably get someone good (if not elite) form another club or the draft...?

$kirt is valued, wanted and we will be given gold NOT silver for him.

Maybe, but I think there a couple of things done/said this year indicative of a green coach in his first year. I think he is naive in some aspects - at least, I hope it's naivety and not sheer bloody mindedness.

I think you'll find it's positivity. Plus, I dont think he's necessarily saying we will pick up a replacement forward/ruckman, just a replacement player.

Or perhaps given that he's privy to far more information than anybody on here, there is something in the pipeline that we don't know about?

Sure could be. :thumbsu: I do think though, that Sando wears a pair of rose coloured glasses at times. Will be interesting to watch his development next year.

What is wrong with what Sando said? Of course they're looking to pinch a player from another club. Where else are they going to pinch one from. The sky? What's wrong with giving a straight answer?

Someone asked if it was ballsy or naive to say that. I answered. Never said there was anything wrong with it. Just thought it was naive of him to do so.

Ok, but IMO 'naive' has a negative connotation, i.e. with experience he wouldn't phrase it that way. My point is, why does his answer need to be massaged with experience?
