that is an interesting question, I have read somewhere that he did agree and the trade didn't happen for other reasons.

now I'm sure that is big footy innuendo, but one of the questions I would love chapman to answer (if indeed he does really answer any questions like he said he would) is, what happened with the Brisbane trade? did we turn it down? did Kurt turn it down or did we run out of time filling in the transfer docs?

the answer may have something to do with the angst caused by Tippet this year.

This was contained in an article posted by a Brisbane poster (moderator I think) quoting their recruiting manager. He spoke about other things including what happened with the Tippett trade last year.
Their recruiting manager said that Kurt had agreed to be traded however the Crows wanted a player along with pick 8 and Brisbane weren't willing to include a player/s the Crows wanted, so the trade fell through.

I reckon that particular post is in this thread somewhere.

That's correct

So, South Australians have a culture of salary cap rorting.:p As silly as it is to connect the two I'm sure some people will. Not the best timing.

I'm confused.

Who's the only club to actually be fined in 2012 for breaching player rules relating to the salary cap??

Can someone tell me the immediate background to john Reid's statement....'we have sold our souls'? It has an apologetic ring. If he had full personal investment and belief in the deal, would he use such terms to describe it? To me the statement reeks of reluctance from an unwilling 'player'.

This is incorrect. We didn't want White period, Sydney weren't going to do the deal without him. Trigg wasn't pushing deal through - he thought Sydney (Ireland) were being arseholes over something he thought no longer existed. He wanted to go to AFL to get clarification on whether Tippetts could force our hand.

Would the reason that Sydney wanted white to leave was to do with salary cap issues? (they couldnt pay White an estimated $250-300 grand AND pay tiprat his millions)

As player Tippett removed himself from the Adelaide Crows’ list, he does not qualify as a free agent, and is part of the Draft player pool.

Tippett has AFL permission to lodge set financial terms for his pay on Dec 3, after the result of Friday’s AFL Commission hearing is known

Rowey has said the "we have sold our souls" comment was regarding the $$$$$$.

Today is a cause for celebration, the thread title is finally true, and it only took 950 pages!

I wonder what price he will put on his head? More importantly, I wonder how much GWS are prepared to pay? PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE go to GWS.

Yes. They couldn't afford Tippett with him on their list.

My understanding is that Reid never said that. I thought he actually said something like "We haven't sold our souls" when asked about getting Tippett signed.

"Adelaide Football Operations Manager John Reid told the Adelaide Advertiser the Crows had not "sacrificed our soul" to keep Tippett. "
"Now, we've needed to put up a few bales of hay to keep Kurt but we've also kept the farm; we've certainly not sold our soul."

Tippett was playing us bigfella. Telling those that made decisions and negotiated contracts that he wanted to stay. They had a media release ready announcing he'd signed on for five years. You don't do that if you think he's not staying.

So those who predicted him going and encouraging the decision makers to trade him... why were they not trusted more than Tips and his dodgy family/agent who had backed the club into a dodgy agreement 2 years previous?

How is it that such an elephant in the room is not considered in discussions? Are we too soft to push hard on a full confirmation and another signed agreement coming back opur way? If we couldn't get it - I reckon we had to cut our losses. I apprecaite this may be easy in retrospect, BUT by all reports there were plenty of folks saying get it done, I've had enough confirmation from Brisbane contacts that makes me believe he was ready and willing to go... what on earth was blinding the decision makers to all these factors?

We thought we needed him for our assault on the flag? Got to be a pretty big motivating factor don't you think?

It's great that he has to go through the PS Draft, and boy would I love to see him go to GWS. But lets no celebrate just yet, I still wouldn't be at all surprised if GWS baulk at his price and he still ends up at the Swans.

I think as much as he doesn't want to go GWS, he still comes out a winner even if he does. Wasn't it quoted that he will put something on his head at around $3.5mil over 4 years?!

Kurt is the ONLY winner out of this whole saga.
