Actually, if they traded #4 for a later first round pick, would they then have to spend that later first round pick on Viney instead of #4?

Sounds like a plan, dunnit?
No.. because (for the 5th time in the last 4 pages:rolleyes: ) F/S bids are locked in before the start of trade week. Successful bids are frozen and those picks cannot be traded.

Get on this AFC!..... well Caddy and whoever would have to want to go to melbourne......

If GCS have picks 2 and 4 maybe they'd be more likely to give us 2...... if they have 4.
They'd want to get on it quickly, as the first pre-requisite (GC agreeing not to bid on Viney) has to happen before the official start to trade week (noting that F/S bidding is finished before trading can commence).

Yeah I like this one.

Caddy + Toy -> Melb for Pick 4 (and a promise not to bid on Viney).

Allows Melb to get Viney at pick 26

Crows then get Pick 4, Suns get Tippett.

Would be interesting to see what Melbourne supporters think of it. Obviously we think it's great. We get pick 4 for Tippett, you get Tippett for Caddy + Toy. If Dees supporters are equally as happy then would be a great win/win/win trade. (Obviously more important what the clubs think than random supporers on a footy forum but if all supporters of all 3 clubs are happy, it generally indicates a good trade)

Sorry! I'm still on page 53. But nevermind, I'm working my way forward gradually.

I hope you 2 are correct but it sounds too easy and too good to be true.

Lets cross our fingers and hope this deal gets up.

However, does Caddy even want to go to the Melbourne Football club? that could be the sticking point.
I seriously doubt he does, I thought the word was he wamted to go to one of the "power" Vic sides like Essendon, Collingwood and Geelong. I see it as a big problem "selling" MFC to any player with half a brain!!

I think that's genuinely equitable.

Kurt is worth a top #5 pick IMO, but #2 would have us slightly ahead on the deal. The difference in picks a couple of spots apart is generally overblown; outside of the top 10-15; inside that, it's significant.

Not that any of this matters at all; but somebody post it to Melbourne and see what they say ;)

From Scott Claytons interview from the combine in Adelaide Now

Clayton also confirmed serious Gold Coast interest in Adelaide's Kurt Tippett, but said a potential deal with the Crows would likely be independent of its dealings with Victoria-bound midfielder Josh Caddy.

Clayton said the Suns were "very keen" to keep ruckman Tom Hickey

I find the above interesting from a couple of points, the Caddy pick is obviously part of the Tippett trade (in directly), We want to keep Hickey, why when we have so many Ruckmen (Smith, Dixon, Nicholls, Gorringe, Thompson) unless one of these was likely to be part of the trade.

Caddy pick and Gorringe looks like our play to me.

Indeed. It's been documented that Caddy refused to even meet with the MFC. Seems unlikely that he will get there.

See, this kind of stuff really annoys me. For all of the AFL's equalisation policies, in the end how can clubs like the SA clubs, the small Vic clubs and ultimately clubs like GC/GWS compete with the big Vic clubs if homesick talented kids won't even talk to clubs that are struggling like Melbourne. Essentially after the draft/initial contracts players get to walk wherever they like and who is going to choose to go Melbourne/Bulldogs/Port if they can walk to a club like Collingwood or Carlton with ease. It's crap. If Caddy is homesick, then it should be fine to go to any Vic club - just like homesick Gunston last year who happened to want to go to the premiership favourites.

Pfft i'll have you know i'm a pretty Big Cheese down at the cracker factory! Dees will accept this random deal and like it! Even supernova_ likes this deal...people...he's more fidgety than a gold coast meter maid in a Bikini 2 sizes too small...sure Caddy may not like the idea of Siberia Demons...but do footballers have feelings?

haha gold. Minor details, just do what your told Mr Caddy.

Sounds like a tosser; if he's desperate to go back home, then he should be happy with Melbourne.

But what would you do Elvis when you have 10 or so clubs at home to choose from? I would want success and a high prfoile club at any cost... Melbourne and the Dogs I would avoid... Infact I would go to the Hawks, their players are always happy and never seem to want an extra year on their contract or even more money... Wonder why?

Yep, this will be the sticking point.

Why would he care about doing the right thing for the Crows or Gold Coast who didn't trade him last year.

I agree mate, I'd want to go to the best Club; but it shouldn't be his decision.

Nominating the City you live in, fair enough, you shouldn't get to dictate which Club though.

Brisbane are sitting back quietly..... would we be happy with pick 8 and Polec?

Yeah without a doubt that would be a monster get. Pick 5 from 2 years ago in Polec, and Pick 8 in this years draft. Should be able to get 2 quality players out of that, and far better than straight pick 2, or pick 4 in my opinion.

All GC have to do is get in early and make a "gentleman's agreement" with Melbourne that if they don't bid, Melbourne will trade pick 3.

Of course Melbourne could just renege on the deal I guess.
