You know, within a day of Tippett announcing he wanted to go to Sydney, I busted the shit out of my ankle and it's still swollen today. Completely ruined my sporting schedule, made walking anywhere a real pain, expensive physio appointments, etc.

Now, thinking back to it, the whole Tippett to Sydney thing was probably in my mind when I went over feet and did the injury. It was almost certainly the distraction that caused the injury, in fact!

So the only question I have now is whether it is Trigg, Tippett, Tippett Snr or Blucher that is responsible for paying my medical bills and refunding my sport team fees?
You might have to hobble behind the angry mob with torches and pitchforks Stabby to serve them with the bill. :D

My guess is that we never had to make a payment to cover any shortfall on the 3rd party deals WW.

I'm basing this on Chapman's comment that the AFL are welcome to examine our books and they won't find anything not above board with our payments.

That doesn't detract from the fact that we intended to make payments outside the cap if necessary - as much as $200,000 pa if necessary.

Similarly with the 2nd round draft pick. We would be claiming that the deal we did with Sydney was'nt for a 2nd rounder which means we abandoned what was written in the separate agreement with Tippett.

Only my opinion, but it would appear that we are dead ducks on intent in writing, but clear in practice of having carried out any of the written intent- for whatever that is worth.
I agree don't think any payments were required ....... I doubt the doc says we intended to make up any shortfall outside the TPP

Given we had space why would we??

We obviously kept a shortfall in TPP as a contingency in case we had to include additional payment in the future??

Does a player contract facilitate underwriting marketing agreements?

Quite a few posters have made the point that being based in Adelaide is a disadvantage - harder to keep interstate players, can't attract big name recruits, not the same commercial dollars or marketing opportunities available etc

What if the club has (long ago) accepted that this is the case? That we aren't on equal footing with the big clubs?

What do they do? Just accept it and make up the numbers?

Nah, I don't buy that Stabby.

Chapman invited the AFL to have a look at our books and has publicly said that they won't find a thing.

With the status that he hold in the commercial world, there's no doubt that he genuinely believes that, after grilling Trigg,Harper etc, to be able to have the confidence to make that statement.

He wouldn't risk his reputation when he knows that the AFL are scrambling all over us

I agree, which is why I reckon BACCS' version of reality is likely to be closer to the mark.

But I would be willing to place a pretty sizable bet that there are other players in the AFL with similar "under the table" deals, and some club CEOs with some sweat on their brow right now.

You might have to hobble behind the angry mob with torches and pitchforks Stabby to serve them with the bill. :D

I wonder how long I could stay on 5AA if I whinged about my ankle and asked for Trigg to pay my expenses before they dumped me? :D

Planescape Torment is an experience you have to have once. Even nowadays if you haven't before. I played through it for the first time in 2007 and it was still amazing. Just cheat and give yourself max stats because pretty much all the game mechanics are boring as shit. But the setting, and the dialogue, and the story.....

IWD2 actually had a pretty good story too, though less epic in scope that the BG series. Certainly a huge step up from the practically non-existent story in IWD1.

I'd apologise for going off-topic but after tens of thousands of posts in this thread I'm not sure I even care anymore. Posting about old CRPGs instead is kind of soothing.

Ah my first RPG was Temple of Apshai on the TRS-80 in 1979 ... the glory days of PCs!
Screen resolution was 384x192 B&W ... mobs were about 4 pixels each and the swinging sword was a flashing 5th pixel ...

Whilst ostensibly we haven't actually done anything 'wrong' (ie no way have we gained any unfair advantage), Trigg needs to fall on his sword at the end of this debacle.
As was frequently pointed out to me when this story broke, Adelaide have gained an unfair advantage. Had Adelaide not agreed to this secondary contract it is very possible that Tippett may have walked when his previous contract expired 2 years ago. Thus we've had his services for 2 years as a result of this dodgy contract.

We might be on the losing end of the equation when it comes to trade period 2012, but we were the party that gained advantage for the two years prior to that point.

If we were guaranteeing shortfalls on marketing arrangements then that would have to be included as a clause in Tippett's contract that goes to the AFL.

Hopefully we didn't say that we will keep it secret from the AFL as Emma Quayle was suggesting. If nothing was said other than that we would guarantee any shortfall then we could argue that we intended to declare any payment in our returns to the AFL.

I would suggest that Chapman throwing the doors open is his way of exonerating himself and the rest of the board of AFC. Trigg surely can hear the steamroller headed his way. I honestly believe the police (fraud squad) will be involved in all of this before the end. This will run for months if not years.

It's a fair comment Carl. I have said for years in here that while we aren't an outwardly complaining club, things do happen behind the scene that supporters just aren't aware of. Clearly I wasn't thinking THIS type of thing, but your point is a very good one. How to remain competitive in a very hostile environment where our weaknesses (trying to retain interstate players) aren't catered for ala the AFLs poster clubs. We have no COL allowance, we got no draft relief and in fact the introduction of the expansion clubs hurt us more than any other club. Whilst I don't condone what has been done, you can see why the desperation to retain the evil little twerp.

I doubt that but I can see the ATO running a fine tooth comb over Kuntley's tax returns since 2009!!

But who said it ....AFC or Tippetts management

We can't be held responsible if the other camp put that in correspondence .....as long as there was no plan to make any shortfall payment outside the TPP

Yep, probably in our favour where other clubs such as Carlton have clearly rorted going over the cap - we were still under the cap, but made some stupid agreements/transactions. If that is not mis-management, I don't know what is.
Most clubs leave some extra money in the cap, to cover for match payments, injuries, elevating rookies, player bonuses for meeting certain KPI's, playing extra games (ie finals, grand finals). Also at the end of the year they have some room to move for trades and signing new draftees. So as it is most likely true that the Crows had the extra $200,000 in the cap every club keeps this extra up their sleeve to not go over the cap. If they had declared this then they would of risked going over the cap when all these other potential scenarios come up.

I'm sorry, but I just don't buy the sob story thatAFC is at a competitive disadvantage vis-a-vis other teams. Sure, the sanfl licensing arrangements have been an anchor around our necks, but AFC has a captive population of 1 million people. The bulldogs, kangaroos, even power would love that marketing audience and sponsors lap it up.

BF2 Rocked back then, Screw your potions and chants i will just run him over with my tank

Final OT post; I'll see your BF2 and raise you XCOM Enemy Unknown (also in remake).

Back on topic. I was worried when there was secret 'gentlemans agreement' to tamper with the draft, shit got worse when it morphed into a actual deal to 'look after' Kurts brother, but now there is a secret $200 000 under the table payment outside the cap and specifically intended to be kept secret from the AFL?

If true that puts this in the range of Carlton-esqe penalties. I've said it before, but I wouldnt wish that on anyone.

The worst thing is that the current compliance doesnt help. Only players can benefit from amnesties, and even then its only at AFL discretion.

Actually screw it, lets talk more computer games.

:(

Us according to Emma.

"ADELAIDE is believed to have guaranteed Kurt Tippett $200,000 outside of his contract and suggested the arrangement be kept secret from the league.""
