Because it was too late for a proper penalty (ie 1st and 2nd round picks) losing drafts this year was most unlikely. It was always going to be 2013 and maybe 2014 depending on how naughty you have been. Everyone out to protect themselves with separate counsel seems a smart move especially for AFC as they can now hang their employees out to dry. The big and exciting issue relates to the PSD, will the AFL accept a nomination from KT given that the PSD is long before the mooted hearing date in December. If they do will any club bid for him knowing that he may be out for all or a significant part of the year. If nobody bids and he has not been delisted does it mean he may play for AFC in 2013. Can you forgive and forget ?

Yeah I agree on Dittmar.

It is going to be interesting what the AFL consider to be a breach, Adelaide is small place I would imagine the benefits some Crows are getting would be similar to that of Port players.

the thing is the AFL has put us and Port in this situation...we have to do more to retain players than teams in other states...they've caused this whole mess...the expansion teams have killed us and now they want to punish us for trying to stay competitive? **** the AFL

Lols @ Edwardson already starting to turn this into a 3 ring circus. I thought he would give the AFL the shits , just assumed he would wait until Monday.

More time more lawyers....it will end up worthy of a supreme court trial.

He has already got us in this Draft!

Not worth saying this on the main board, but everyone needs to chill on the VB stuff (non-crow people I'm referring to).

He's being investigated, and same with Dangerfield?? Of course they bloody are!!

It was announced a week ago the crows were handing over ALL contract information of players with the club at that time and now, and all related information to their deals. This means EVERY BLOODY CROW is being investigated.

Big shock its the ones with outside deals being the focus of attention, given its what has blown up in Tippett's face, AFL would be morons not to examine every deal in detail.

Not saying he's guilty or innocent, don't know. But people going on about this being proof of widespread corruption in the crows is friggin stupid, its just proof the AFL are doing what they should be bloody doing - INVESTIGATING EVERY BLOODY DEAL ON YOUR BOOKS!!

Sorry for the caps, but I'm pissed off (and I don't even barrack for your mob). You may be worse than the Blues, who knows. But right now all charges are confined to Tippett, and no other charges have been laid. Only a month or two ago we had everyone in Melbourne thinking some poor hubby murdered his wife because the cops were interrogating him and examining his house (to be fair, I was one). Turned out he was innocent, but the cops needed to rule him out. Investigation is not proof of guilt!!!
This is worth posting on the MB mate!!

My first re-action to the post-ponement of Monday's inquisition of the Crows was "this will be a costly fk-up".

IMO this was the draft to lose our ability to participate in the first 3 rounds or so, given that we only have 2 selections after the promotion of Callinan to the main list. It also shortens the time that the AFL have to dig up more 3rd party breaches because of technicalities, plus it would finally shut up Caro Wilson's and Emma Quayle's cakeholes.

However, there has to be a trigger to our decision to delay the hearing, and IMO it's Adrian Anderson's secretive decision to reverse the approval on the Judd 3rd party deal after 5 years. In addition Anderson has said that the AFL will scrutinise all 3rd party deals, with the AFL in particular concentrating on the degree of independence of the club to the deal.

Now, common sense says you can't change the rules retrospectively and punish a team for what weren't breaches but which now become breaches with Anderson's change of emphasis. BUT, we are talking Anderson and the AFL.

IMO our silks have either seen this as a problem that need extra time to prepare an appropriate defence, or alternatively maybe they see it as an opportunity that needs thorough planning to exploit properly. The latter would be related to the fact that any 3rd party involvement by us would have been committed at the same time as the Judd deal was okay and the AFL themselves had set up 3rd party deals with both GWS and Gold Coast, which then says how can the AFL punish us for what they have approved and done themselves.

Also the club has isolated itself from Trigg, Reid and Harper who are going to have separate representation, which will increase the number of silks v the AFL, putting more pressure on the AFL's silk. In addition this enables individuals to more easily absorb punishment without necessarily drawing penalties for the club. No problems for Reid of course, who is out of the system, and very little stress for Harper with one piddly little charge which is virtually a technicality due to interpretation by the AFL.

Trigg is the one that is going to really cop it IMO because he will be involved in every one of the charges, and either the silks think that they can come up with a defence for him which will help him survive, or they think that he's a goner so put him out there and let him take it all.

That's my early thoughts on it, and it may prove to be nothing like this. Hopefully there will be an announcement by the club as to why in the very near future.

If it ever gets to a courtroom, as least we will find out what actually happen. No coverup or media spin.

Howy@howycm
@Sportsnewsfirst: Van Berlo manager hits out: http://ow.ly/fkyFu #AFL #GoCrows@emmasq sounds pretty emphatic?

5h Emma Quayle@emmasq
@howycm @sportsnewsfirst Adelaide is being investigated not van berlo. As is quite clear in the story. Of course he's upset it's his client

4h Howy@howycm
@emmasq if its a straightforward contract as his manager states what would Adelaide be investigated for? Not discrediting, just interested.

3h Emma Quayle@emmasq
@howycm because third party deals can't be established by clubs. That's what is being investigated - whether Adelaide set it up

Emma Quayle@emmasq
@pepzerella i'm not surprised that a manager is sticking up for his player. van berlo has done nothing wrong, and I haven't said he did

Then WTF are you saying exactly? EQ should know full well the player is all the footy public care about in stories like this.

Also:

Aaron Spiniello@AaronSpiniello
@emmasq if you're going to keep breaking these stories with misinformation, at least have the spine to name your source.

I thought the clubs were the ones who setup these third party deals, and then ran by the AFL for approval?

I remember many times in here some people saying that they hate that we have this squeaky clean image. Well I guess that's fixed now! ;) honestly I don't give a **** what people think of us off the field. It's on the field that matters. We need to own what's happened. It's a part of our history now. Can't wait until its over, the draft will happen (taking focus off us), then the tanking investigation will happen (putting focus on Melbourne) then the season will be here. It's not the end of the world.

I think it was more of an emphasis on the Crows playing hard ball within the rules.

Joyce WILL BE redrafted!

Clubs still have some gentlemans understanding ......and I am 100% of the opinion all AFL clubs will see the injustice of Adelaide being forced to delist a player due to Tippett .....and they'll leave Joyce alone to be redrafted

never been surer

Injustice?

Your clubs management made this bed they can lie in it, it's up to you to take the hits that are dealt out for your transgressions. I'd say the only thing that will get him to Adelaide is that your management have said they will draft him at the first possible opportunity and no other club would be willing to spend a pick before the Crows on him.

Any chance that we will Rookie list Joyce instead of taking him back on the main list

I think the interpretation is that if a club is involved at any point then it has to be a part of the TTP, other wise a club could only pay a minimum amount and offload all their extra payments to 3rd parties. It would be like only paying Judd $500k a year then getting the CEO's company to make him an ambassador for 6 years for $250 k a year..........Oh wa..

If you guys don't pick him in the national draft someone else will, IMO. Port would be interested in him, you'd think.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Hawks are considering him as well.

IF the 3rd party deals that we entered into in 2009 are similar to Judd's then IMO the commission can't find us guilty unless their prepared to charge Carlton !

IF the AFL have said to Carlton "we've allowed this up to now BUT no longer" ......then again same line has to follow with Adelaide

I can bet you we're not alone in the way 3rd party deals are done

Re tampering with draft .....unfortunately guilty and fine only

But maybe its all about disclosure?

Adel 891 reporting Mondays commission hearing deferred until December at Crows request

Smart by the Crows.

Make sure it's after all the drafts so the AFL don't rush their decision and punish you unfairly.

You're allowed to participate in this years draft and that's already softened the blow a bit.
