Are you jerking chains here???

If it is true, is Dolly the Sheep coming over here from Scotland? Maybe she will be Ewan McGregor's love interest!!!

So long as the movie is better than The Phantom Menace, I don't give a damn what it is called!

Star Wars is many things, but it is not a marketing exercise.

When the original movie was successful 24 years ago, Lucas decided to cash in on its success through merchandising. Fair enough too - you'd be stupid not to. But he did this AFTER the movie was made, and after the movie reached his original vision.

The focus for George Lucas has been on getting his vision for Star Wars onto the big screen. Obviously, money will be made of the sales off action figures etc, but this is secondary to the making of the movie. The last thing he needs is the money. He's already a billionaire.

Star Wars is classic storytelling first, and marketing second. The first one always fuels the second one. These movies havn't made over a billion doallrs worldwide in ticket sales, becuase people like the action figures. They have made over a billion dollars, because people go and watch them in the cinema!

Jar Jar might be a despised chararcter, but his role is not a lot different o that of Chewbacca in the original trilogy. He is certainly not there for the purposes of making money. Action figure sales would have been huge anyway, and it's not as if Jar Jar would sell more than, that say, Obi-wan for instance.

Jar-Jar simply plays the role of a side-kick (common in all sorts of movies) and given that the Star Wars universe consists of a variety of creatures, it makes sense to put a "non-human" in there. The story telling always comes first. That is what made the movies so successful.

If you want an example of a series that is deliberately trying to cash in on Star Wars, have a look Battlestar Galactica.

Jar Jar is in Epiosde II, apparently, playing a smaller role, but over the 10 year "gap", he has matured.

The story and plot for Episode II, for what it's worth appears to be awesome, for those that are interested.

Ok - along the lines of my Rocky and sports movie post - can I just say that the first time I ever saw a Star Wars movie in full was about 4 years ago when they released the original (and I thought it was a load of crap) :D

Again I ask the qn "is there something wrong with me?"

Yes, and Jar Jar Blinks was in Episode One because he was intricately involved in the plot development.

Puh-leeeze!

lmao. Too true.

A fairly poor choice of title I would have thought, then again A New Hope is hardly awe inspiring.

Don't worry Sly, I've never seen any of them, despite all of them being constantly replayed on Foxtel. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I thought it was going to be called something like Episode II Clone Wars or The Clone War but Attack of the Clones is cool. The Phantom Menace sounded cool but the movie was a disappointment.

Im a HUGE SW fan and i hope he gets more serious with the plot in AOTC.

Bullsh¡t Star Wars isn't a marketing exercise.. George Lucas is a greedy self-indulgent pig. Although I like Star Wars, that prick finds new ways of making money out of gullible people. Six years ago he released the original trilogy on video with the premise that it'll "never be released on video again" so I bought it. Guess what, out comes the "Special Editions", then recently the original trilogy is back on the shelves.. ahh come on.

How long was that pod racing sequence in Episode 1? Half the movie from memory... "Here's a great video game based on the movie", thinks George to himself.

Dan, you'd be a fool to think that Star Wars is not a cynical marketing exercise. Get your head out of the sand. Very few movies are about 'art', more about making massive profits.

'Star Wars: Attack of the Clones', keeps reminding me of 'Kiss: Attack of the Phantoms'.
