What do we think for '05 from the Tiv.

It seems his been around for ever but the lad is only 26. Last year he got the 5th most ball in our side (behind Bowden, Johno, Brownie, Cambo) averging 18 touches a game.

With our new look side; Tuck in the guts, Suger Kane Johnson spending more time on the black flank along with the middle with Plough stressing getting the Roach, Raines, Hartigan types 50 games asap Greg Tivendale has taken a move to the back flank, playing a quater back / moping up role. By all accounts Tiv has been solid playing this sweeping role.

He has always been a beuitful left foot 65 meter kick on the run. However he has lacked poise, and been slighlty soft. However if Cogs can play 22 solid games Tiv is twice the player.

I was dubious about the move, but there's been improvement lately with him there. One of his problems is a lack of accountability and spending some time in defence should help out there. As you say, he is probably the player that will benefit most out of everyone from a fit Cogs in the side.

Should be told to never handball or short pass. Look up and Kick it 60 metres downfield. He's not the sort of player that will get tagged so if he finds space on the wing or in the centre of the ground he should be able to hit the goalsquare with his kick. Opposition Coaches would have problems if they find Tivendale kicking the ball 60 metres to Richo or Simmonds one out. Kraks or Tambling crumbing and all of a sudden we look very dangerous. If only we had a Pavlich type at CHB.

I still like Bowden as the new age center half back. He as bulked up and is now a unit of a person.

We could imploy a Port type system. Bishop & Wakelin do the dirty work whilst Corns plays a new age CHB/sweeping flanker role.

Id have Schultz and Gaspar playing the Bishop & Wakelin role allowing Bowden to be Corns like.

A Pavlich type would help. :(

I've always like Tivo but last year I thought he was below his best along with the whole team. Really I don't care how much of the ball he gets, I'd rather 12 damaging possesions then 30 useless ones. He is very talented and could give us a boost kicking wise with his penetrating kick from defense, but I'd love to see him attacking as well and being able to take some shots from outside 50.

The game against Brisbane was the first sign I'd seen from Tivva that he was getting rid of the bad habits of the last few years.
In the Collingwood Wizard Cup game he was one of the worst offenders of chip kicking, yet against Brisbane he seemed to have regained some confidence in running and kicking long.

Hope he keeps it up

tivendale is a great kick of the ball and should always be used on a flank or a wing. I'd prefer him on the left half forward flank with his pin point passes into the forward line. What the hell was frawley thinking by playing him in the centre all the time.

Wouldn`t it be better to have him on a right flank where is natural left foot would have more of a tendency to centre the ball rather than head to the flanks ?

not neccesarily because his kick would swing left to right. in soccer the left sided players play on the left for this reason.

either flank he would be fine on. i think once Tiva is playing on the CHF, it means we are getting good, because we no longer need to play him in positions were he isnt quite up to it.

Madtiger I will put this to you and I would like a reply. IF you think that last year Greg Tivendale was a good kick of the football you must of been at the wrong games to what i was at. I remember the days not long ago when he was on the run from around the 50mtr line and went for goal and got them more then he missed. Last season same thing on the run kicked it from 50mtrs and did not make the distance. In the match at Morwell this year against Essendon he was doing the kick outs from a point guess the result he kicked it 15mtrs right to an Essendon player who turned around and Kicked a goal. We dont need that. You think he is a good kick lol at times i feel I am a better kick then him and he is playing at the senior level when i dont play at all. I would like to think season 2005 Is the year for Tivendale as if it is not that could soon be the end of him as well.

Tivendale is a beuitful long left foot kick on the run. :)

play him to his strengths and use him either on the wing or at CHFF. he isnt a defender so why try make him one - he will need to more likely get a pay cut IMO as im sure he would be getting paid as a midfielder, and if he is only capable of play CHFF- he should get paid less
