Could not have put it better myself. These people who call themselves Essendon supporters just assumed that it would be another stroll in the park. Well they might think twice before being so arrogant in future.

As a Bomber supporter, I am obviously pretty disappointed in tonights effort...
AS much as it hurts to say (!), Carlton deserved the win - they were much better when it counted, and played with a lot more passion.
However, surely you would concede that Essendon were pretty poorly treated in the umpiring stakes. 10 Vs 26 frees???
(before you all jump down my throat, yes I have read the Essendon Excuse book - some were funny, some just annoying!!!).
Again, I stress this factor hurt us, but Carlton deserved to win.
Just hope they can lift for the Swans next week, who are probably rubbing their hands with glee!

If you factor in the 6-8 frees which were not paid against you,(throwing the ball particularly) you were lucky they didn't double your score in that department.

What about the multiple holding frees that we never received? The soft frees Carlton got?
Why did FatFarm (Whitnall) get a charity 50m?

As I said above, Carlton deserved to win (I'm not making excuses!), but the umpiring WAS pretty ordinary.

PS. As a Carey fan, i'm sure you get pretty frustrated with umpires too at times - especially against an octopus like Manton!

Essendon is the only team that CONSISTENTLY throws the ball and more often than not the umpire doesn't see or lets it go.

An Essendon supporter complaining about the umpiring with two of the most "untouchables" in the league.

North v Ess - Ess had 6 frees in F50 and goaled; North received 1 free in F50 and goaled. As a said in another thread, it is not HOW many frees paid, it is WHERE the frees are paid.

Whilst I agree that sometimes Lloyd has/does play for frees, how many has he received? As mentioned earlier, especially against a renowned Jumper Tugger like Manton....

How do you figure Hird for an 'untouchable'? (If that is who you were referring to.)

No, it was not you who had a go at me but another Essendon supporter. I guessed it may have been 4-5 goals NvE, but on looking at the stats, Ess received 6 frees in their F50, resulting in 6 goals.

There was some picture in the paper last week, (I didn't see it) that caused a bit of a stir - Hird "the untouchable" had a player in some sort of choke hold? Questions were asked why nothing happened. (I think Hird is a very good player).

Carey receives the attention EVERY week, usually with 3 players - he pushed in the back, held onto and also ridden into the ground. No free kick. In fact, that has come up previously and the umpiring staff agreed Carey has on occasion had a raw deal.

We have got more frees in the 50 zone than North by 3 or 4 or something but we won by 85 points easing off...

So, not relevant as a comparison really.

That said, we shouldn't blame anyone but the team - if they were good enough on the night they would have prevailed - that's footy...

As an aside can you imagine how much more arrogant Carlton (ODN aside) and Collingwood fans would be if their team had won something like 40 out of the last 43?????

Congratulations Carlton. I don't support either team but watching the match I thought the umpires did seem to favour the blues but having said that I still think the blues deserved to win because of their hard tackling. Hate to say it, but they were great.

No Essendon supporter on here ever suggested that we would go undefeated. many, including me, have said that we wil win the flag. But then again, I always think we are going to win the flag. I've tipped us to win the flag for the past 15 years I think !!!

God, I hate losing to Carlton. The free kick count ladt night had no bearing on the game. Carlton may have had the slight advantage with the umpiring in general play, but it didn't affect the result. They were just better in and around the packs. Why in the hell did we let them play the game on their terms????

What an awful night. It's ruined my Easter.
