Amazing how so many people here often run a loose playing soft often unaccountable tagger (Addison) up a flagpole or an experienced half forward who should know better than to keep playing ridicuoulsly wide (Murphy)

Yet continue to critisise a hard working small forward who actualy plays fairly straight (Hill) because the dont like the way he sometimes appears on TV.

Lets get a reality check he might duck his head, but he also stands in front of traffic trying to take a mark. He also often gets goals in games and takes contested marks

He also does what a few of us long standing Doggie fans like to see in the good years and the not so good years..Josh has a red hot go..if he cant get the pill at least he tackles and makes a nuisance of himself.

He does friggin something !

Something Rob Murphy is struggling to do, he also makes a lot more tackles than Murphy or Addison. IMHO he is a lot tougher player than both of them

Congratulations to Dylan Addison

According to the Herald Sun stats the only player on the whole ground from both sides not lay a single tackle

Special Credits go out to those who laid 1 tackle for the night (a wet night where tackling should have been easier)

Shaun Higgins and Ben Hudson...take a bow

Honorable Mentions to those who made 2 tackles

Robbie Murphy, Lindsay Gilbee, Ryan Hargrave, Brennan Stack and Tom Williams

5 Bulldogs laid 40 of the 83 tackles against Melbourne

Hill 10, Griffen 9, Gia 9, Cross 6 and Grant 6

Another 4 Dog's laid 4 tackles Harbrow, Akermanis, Hahn and Boyd

That is 56 out of our 83 tackles were laid by 9 players in our side or 67% of our tackles are made by 41% of our players.

Melbourne on the other hand

10 Demons laid 48 of the 88 tackles against Western Bulldogs

McDonald 10, Bruce 6, McKenzie 6, Garland 6, Scully 5, Dunn 5, Davey 5, Frawley 5, Bartrum 5 and Green 5

Another 4 Demons laid 4 tackles Jones, Trengove, Moloney and Bate

64 of their 88 tackles were laid by 14 players in their side or 75% of their tackles made by 64% of their players.

If your having more tackles it mean's we are not winning the contested ball, i would rather win the contested ball.

Hudson lead all comers in contested pos with 17 far more effective than tackling

Re . Hudson ..he does bring a lot of ball to ground at the tap rather than winning it outright like and only acheived 55% effectiveness including 3 clangers

Higgins had 12 contested possie @ 47% effectiveness only 1 clanger thank goodness

Gilbee had 6 contested possesions @ 50% effectiveness with 4 clangers

Addison no tackles 3 contested possesions and 1 clanger is a long way off AFL standard.

Hudson had 21 taps and 1 tackle against Jamar and Johnson 37 taps and 3 tackles

Melbourne players had a lot more first use of the ball than the Dog's

Not sure how you can throw Hudson under the bus he was probably our hardest worker (bar Gia) last night.
Hudson can be a hard worker

But as a long suffering supporter I know that when the Bulldogs are realy humming and on song Will Minson is often the prime mover in the ruck.

But rocket sacrificed the number 2 ruck for a smaller player due to weather conditions on Friday night.

Unfortunately too many of our under 186 cm players are not prepared to get in and under and scrap.

That was Addison's worst game of the year he was probably due for a bad one he's been pretty good in every other game he has played this year so far and I would definitely consider him to be one of our tougher players, he's still young he's going to be inconsistent but has showed enough to warrant selection next week.

Dylan can ping a big long goal and take an overhead grab

Great

But when you are given a tagging role that is something you need to put away and concentrate on the main positional role you are given by your coach.

Liam Picken and Matthew Boyd can also ping big long goals, but they make sure they do the primary task they are assigned first.

It was wet , your argument has no weight, too many tackle mean's that you are chasing tale all game, stupid thread imo.

The media gave Scully best on ground he had only 5 tackles but he had 15 con, poss which do you think is more damaging
I clearly stated in the opening post only 9 of our players had over 4 tackles

So he obviously had a more red blooded go than over 50% of our list

I jump on here week in week out criticizing the team only for fans with rose colored glasses who can not see past them, but believe me i do not have rose colored glasses.

It's just your thread makes no sense to me, last year we averaged 60 tackles per game this year so far we are averaging 65 tackles per game:confused:

Unfortunately our players have not been sharing the tackling workload around as much as some of our opponents.

We have players who are not tackling enough.

I also notice that no their is no Bulldog player in the top 25 tackler list at afl.com at the moment.

http://www.afl.com.au/Premiership/Statistics/tabid/73/Default.aspx

Click the "T" immediately above the numbers and it sorts the list by tackles

I note Geelong have 5 players in the top 25, St Kilda 1 and Collingwood 4

I hope the lack of Bulldog players on this list is not due to declining leg speed within the team. (not catching opponents)

I think we are a better team with Hill up forward. Seems to get potted for things that others regularly get away with.

Well the OP does show little understanding.
Addison is normally one of our most consistent hard at it contested players.

For this game he was assigned the job on Aaron Davey. As a consequence he had to sacrifice his own game. He did struggle at times to keep Davey under control, but in fact did a better job of it than the player assigned the same role in 2009.

Davey has terrific pace and used that to get away from his tagger in both years.

Addison would not be considered in the better players but the fact that Davey had little impact means he has done his job.

BTW - the 2009 tagger was Picken.

Your thoughts on this subject may well be valid, however unless we can also count the opportunities missed and by which player to lay a tackle then you can only look at this from a pure statistical point of view that on average we were either above or below the average tackle count for a winning team.

I've been thinking about the Saints experiment with Dal Santo as well and think it is exactly what Bob Murphy needs. The guy has more talent in his little finger than most other teams put together but he is just not performing. Put him in the twos to get his mojo back I say.

I was at the game and thought Addison was pretty good against Davey (who was potentially the most dangerous Melbourne player.) Stats can be selectively quoted to support almost any thesis.
