I was born in 1977 but a few of them might apply to me. Certainly the ones about Ataris and Transformers
smile.gif

Call me a child of the early 80's I guess.

You might all find this interesting...when I was six my favorite song was Men at Work's "Down Under", and I had never even heard of Australia then
smile.gif

It was the first record I ever got. Still got it too!

born in 1977....I would say that would make you a child of the 80's! you were only like 13 when the 80's finished!
And atari was soo cool hey!?...i can remember the day we got one and it had like 100 built in games it....oh wow.....it was like the biggest thing since vegemite!!!

who can remember when "space invaders" was the most exciting (and only) video game out!

mind blowing!

ok I was born in 62 and consider myself a child of the 70's. Most of that stuff means nothing to me.

I do remember when space invaders first came out, and the song by Player 1.

I got my first tv/video game when I was 14. It was a big black box and had 3 games on it. Can't remember what it was called but the games were pong (tennis), squash and soccer. The screen was black, the lines and bat were white. Thats all it had. I was blown away. Played for ours at a time.

It overlooked some of the great 80's icons though:

* Rollerdisco.
* The Playboy & Kiss pinball machines.
* The domino/knocking them over craze.
* Hulkamania.
* As mentioned Space Invaders.
* Rubic's Cube.
* Mad Max.
* Con The Fruiterer.
* Bob Hawke.
* Ronald Reagan.
* Leg Warmers.

Agent86, I too spent many hours playin 'moon patrol' damn I loved that game
smile.gif
BJ thanks for that list, found myself chuckling at some of them, esp the purple and hot pink lookin soooooooo good together lol.

Born in 1977, I was a child of the 80's.

Brilliant!!! How many memories did that bring back!?!! .... I just saw my 'whole' life flash right past me LOL
biggrin.gif

Time for some Wonder Years reminiscing…. SORRY!!!

>You know all the words to "Ice Ice Baby"..... ahhh Vanilla Ice... "rollin.... in his five point 0... (echo) 0 (echo) 0!!"... and i've got both of his cassettes
biggrin.gif
...but what happened to the rivalry with M.C. Hammer?? HAMMER TIME!!!

>You knew what Willis was "talkin' 'bout.... sorry.... i was with Arnold on that one.

>You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, Wax off"!..... if only we all had a Mr Miyagi figure in our lives to set us on the right path.... and win Karate tournaments.... instead of going outside and picking fights and standing on one leg... then falling over when trying to kick your opponent (who is also standing on one leg because he has seen the movie too!)....
When the girl was shocked that Ralph allowed her to drive his car, he replied with "hey, it's the 80's", implying that the feminist revolution/ equal rights movements had not gone unnoticed with him, and this gesture was a sign of the times!

>You were upset when He-Man got cancelled..... devastated... but more disappointed with the fall of Night Rider though... and Kit's return in Night Rider 2000 just wasn't the same in a Viper ;(

>You even wore fluorescent-neon clothing..... parachute Hang Ten boardies in green, orange and yellow was my style... so sue me!

>You could breakdance, or wished you could.... still do.... just call me Guido
wink.gif

>You remember when ATARI was a state of the art video game system..... for $100 i got to use a system based on how many times I could hit a button in a minute to make Duncan Armstrong (my hero in 88- who I imagined was the swimmer in the game) swim faster... Don’t forget the Commodore 64.... and it’s far superior brother... the Amiga

>You owned a pair of L.A. Gear sandshoes.... they were the nikes of the 80s! Reebok was the adidas of the 80s

>You have ever pondered why Smurfette was the ONLY female smurf... my mind wasn't advanced enough to "ponder" things.... except why Papa's smurf’s hat was always different and why the violent one never learnt that bombs didn’t achieve anything.... anyone remember the snorks?.... smurfs under water!

>Double Dare and Ridgy Didge are familiar to you.... I was a contestant on Double Dare.. YAY!!... but I always struggled with the Ridgy Didge hand signal.

>If you wanted to pick a lock with a toothbrush just like MacGyver.... and simultaneously cut the restricting ropes around him, stop the bomb (with 2 seconds left) and open a safe.... all with only a bucket of water!

>You had at least one Hypercolor shirt.... two actually... both ended up orange with no colour change in sight after 3 weeks... damn unpoliced 80's false advertising!

>If you remember when rollerblades were the new thing.... and roler skates would never become obsolete

>You had Hotwheel races down your street.... hehehe... mine had a supercharger coming out of the bonnet.

>Does "Heros in a half shell" mean anything to you..... ahhh the Ninja Turtles... Donatello was such a role model!... Everything was rad, totally awesome, and tubular!!! .... Michaelangelo influenced a generation.

>You remember when the original Nintendo was the best $100 you could spend..... I think you are forgeting the above mentioned Atari!

So am I an 80's child?

Don't forget all those John Hughes films...the Breakfast Club was a classic...every movie that had Molly Ringwald playing the female lead....oh, and Ferrie Buellers Day Off which triggerred off the shortest fashion trend in history, the "Ferris Says" t-shirts! More on clothes and who remembers shoes with steel caps? And the Felix the Cat T-shirts? Fake Gucci t-shirts leaving the Queen Vic Market by the truckload and those hawkers in the Bourke Street Mall selling fake bottles of Yves Saint Laurent perfumes. Hey, the 80s were so long ago that Melbourne's King Street was not only the coolest place to be on the weekend evenings, but it was also the safest place to be....and not a tabletop dancing bar in sight. For the more alternatively minded, does anyone remember the following....Industry, Subterrain, The Beehive, Club Mud, the Seaview Ballroom, Thrash and Treasure, Clockwork Orange...oh, hang on, one other name....Sanction (on a Tuesday night with that infamous wine fountain!). The 1987 stock market crash and taking the day off uni to see if the stockbrokers would indeed, jump out of their windows (they didn't), and what ever did happen to Christopher Skase, Alan Bond, Laurie Connell, John Spalvins, and their mates? Don't forget the mates, and don't forget that you were an arseh*le if you sacked a worker after the Americas Cup win in '83 (????) when I also remember someone mentioning something about no child living in poverty by a set date...Messiahs come and go, hey?

Being of an age, the 80s are a blur only really referencable by football eg. I bought my house on the day Bombers thrashed Pies in the Prelim Final so it must be 1984 ( that kind of thing ).

The good thing about the 80s was that we actually went to the hairdresser again ( there are photos taken in the 70s too hideous to reveal even now ) and someone actually mentioned that 'brown and purple don't go together'.

The BAD 80s - the decade of the 'mates' - thing was those 'They said you'd never make it' ads , trying to create these 'super Aussies' and giving the Tall Poppy Syndrome a bad name. In retrospect, it's a great lesson in propaganda and attempted maipulation - we now know what that's all about and are appropriately cynical - hence the success of Roy and HG's The Dream. That's our contribution to the world - spot the w***er. Fair to say Bondy and Chris S. were right up there.

I remember living through all those fads, but not as a child but a parent. Spare a thought for all those long suffering parents who spent a fortune on transformers, cabbage patch kids, ataris & having to buy 2 pairs of socks at a time, just so you kids could wear 2 different colours.
My fav atari games, I used to play it while the kids were at school, lol, were froggers & pitfall.
cheers.

NICKY DAVIS KICKS ASS!!!
GO THE MIGHTY PIES!!

ahhh- all brings back so many memories doesnt it ???? Great stuff BJ.

Being another 1977 baby- I consider myself a fully fledged 80's kid.

The transformers and masters of the universe figures were super popular at my primary school. But She-ra was a crock and Hordak was a total try hard of a villian (no match for Skeletor)

I also recall reading Tintin books,the choose your own adventures books, the windies thrashing us in every cricket match i ever watched, INXS getting huge, BROS (when will I , will I, be famous), The stutter rap, Poison, entire days down the milkbar hogging the Double Dragon machine, and the words tops, ace, rad and mint.

ah to be a kid again.
smile.gif

A child of the early eighties I guess.

The emergence of gender confused singers: Boy George and Marilyn. (took me a while to figure it out)
confused.gif

The coolest song was c-c-c-c-ccomputer games by Mi-Sex or M-m-m-mm-m-my sharona by the Knack. Lots of stuttering in the eighties!!!

You may have worn a Choose Life t-shirt before you decided where you would wake up and go-go to.
tongue.gif

Maybe you could help Bucks Fizz make their mind up.

You knew who you were gonna call if you had a ghost in your house.

Sweat bands were trendy (hmmm)

You remember Duran Duran's Girls on Film clip. (Come on guys, it's burnt into the memory. Probably your first sexual experience
redface.gif
).

Jacko was not a team player at all but an individual.

ALF was the coolest character on T.V
cool.gif

'****** bands'(excuse the term - that's what they were called in Qld at least) - those rubber seals off oil drums that everyone insisted on wearing.

Radiator's 'You Have The Right To Remain Silent' was required music at every teenage party. (like we thought the girls might take the hint - Give you what
eek.gif
????).

This stuff just pours out when you start thinking. How do I make it stop???
