you are kidding arent you. there are just 4 left from 04 two of whom mcguane and polo are below standard.
there are none left from 05 thats right none.it would be far more sensible of hardwick to look from 06 onwards when making silly comments like that.
i suppose 07 and 08 were part of the rebuild as well where we used just 3 nd picks in each draft.yep thats rebuilding of the highest order.
just because hardwick says something does it make it true. hes also said at a time when we had not won a game its likely we will have another yr like this one.
No I'm not kidding, granted not everyone picked up since then has come on, but we've still got: Deledio Tambling Cotchin Riewoldt Vickery Edwards Connors Post McGuane Rance Thursfield White Graham Collins King Gourdis Nahas & Browne. That is 18 players who were brought onto the list between 04-08 and as Hardwick said last years crop of Martin Griffiths Astbury Dea Taylor Webberley Nason Grimes Hicks Westhoff Roberts O'Rielly & Contin were brought in to bolster that.

all i can say is give me pick 4 27 29 46 63 80 psd pick whatever and hopefully we can trade a tambling or mcguane or both for reasonable picks.
that would be 8 or 9 players plus whatever rookies we go with.
this would give us an enormous advantage over most other clubs when you consider where those clubs will have to draft from.this makes it almost a normal draft for us.
Whats the difference between those picks and say 6, 30, 47, 64, 81 & 98(which probably becomes another 80's pick as not all clubs will go 6 rounds), a PSD pick and a few new rookies. IMO not much at all, we've moved down 2 spots in the first round and 1 spot in every other round.

you talk about processes but ignore the one process that gives you the best possible chance of getting quality players. the only time we have drafted quality players is with early picks. cotchin martin deledio all come from low finishes.
Not ignoring it, just don't see the need to halt development just so we can have 1 extra pick in the low 20's.

those other structures still have to be put in place regardless of where we finish this yr or next.
Hardwick has made it clear that establishing winning processes is his most important thing in developing the kids into a list that can win a flag, why should that all stop now?
anyway this is definately my last post on this it really is tiresome we will just have to agree to disagree.
and meant to say it befoore but bastinac should be at richmond along with martin and griffiths. yep those meaningless wins do hurt all for the sake of those magnificent wins against who was it again and what momentum it gave us.
i can tell ya now i wont be going on just about bastinac if we only win 4 games this yr and that is what the planning should have been about we all knew where the list was at just like we do now.
We'll agree to disagree, BTW I'm not trying to change anyones opinion on the subject, just voicing my own.

Anyway its all a useless arguement as Hardwick, Gale Cameron & co will have in place what they want to achieve from this year and if its getting the PP then so be it, I won't lose any sleep over it, as long as I go to each game and see the side busting its backside trying to win. I will be annoyed though if we go down the Melbourne route of blatantly laying down.

Well now that we're on 4 wins, having won our 3rd on the trot and beaten a top 8 side, I suppose its a good time to revisit this topic.

Hands up who still wants to tank?
It was always a stupid idea, which team has won a flag by tanking, the Demons are only half a game in front of the worst team ever ;) so it hasn't helped them overly at this stage.

Can you imagine if today DH had started making changes so that we almost win but not quite, then look at the positive effects of a close win against a top eight side. For our young side we need to build a winning mentality based on hard work, not a cheats mentality.

It was great to see how excited Martin was at the end, he even smiled a couple of times, would he want to stay with a team that throws games, didn't look like it to me.

The die has been cast RT. We now look to make it 4 in a row, 5 out the last 6 in another test. The road ahead is a perfect testing ground. We again face a contender, but not a bench mark. Freo away at Etihad with 50 thou looney tigerheads roaring, might just set us up to be, yep, you guessed it, 2 games out of the 8 if other results go our way and then watch out when we play the scum at the G, the gates will be spinning off their hinges. If we can nail Freo we will be one of the form teams in the comp, who is still improving while others in and around the 8 are slowly losing the gas out of their tanks.;)
