I have never known someone so obsessed with such a trivial thing. You adelaide fans should be grateful we offered you a position in the national competition. Can anyone remember the SANFL expanding to include Victorian teams or anyone outside their state? It's not our(the fans) fault the SANFL stood still while the VFL expanded to include 4 more states and became a national competition. If it was the SANFL that expanded to include a Victorian team and teams from other states and changed their name to the AFL,then it would be the SANFL's history that would be recognized. Not the VFL's.It's as simple as that.So it's not about whose league is better but whose league expanded to include more teams. The VFL was more forward thinking and should be recognized for starting a national competition.I'm sure you will agree with me.

Look, s I see it , the VFL needed SA, and SA needed to join the expanded VFL. So we'll call it even, huh?

Ptw,

He's referring to PA1870

Mud,

"Who need who" is irrelevant. It's still the same comp, regarldess of who is in the comp so the 104 year old history of the AFL continues (i'm using the current name , as it is silly and illogical to refer to it as the VFL-AFL)

Not obssesed guys just wanting an answer that means something to National football fans and it is good to see Dan not referring to the former VFL now...but Now acknowledging the AFL as OUR National comp...I agree Dan, calling the AFL...the VFL/AFL makes us look at the former VFL as if it still existed.

PA1870

I acknowledge the VFL records, I acknowledge the AFL records,
I Understand that the competition the VFL ceased to operate as a name of a suburban competiton in 1990 and it was changed into the new national AFL at that time..

I also understand the need of followers of that former comp to maintain its records under the national umbrella.

as they were the same comp I also believe that
Essendon have won 14 Suburban premierships and 2 National premierships..

I have no problem acknowledging the former VFL was the foundation of todays AFL

Ok 1 question Port man.Say if a New Zealand team came in and we changed the competitions name to say the Oceania Football League.Say Essendon won a premiership in the OFL.Would you then say Essendon has won 14 vfl,2 afl and 1 ofl premierships?Or would it be 14 vfl and 3 ofl premierships?

PA1870,

Essendon have won 16 premierships in this comp. You can't split it 14/2. You can't. Sure, the structure of the comp has changed, but its still the same comp, so they have won 16 premierships in the current competiton. The standard, and nationality of the 105 year old AFL competiton is totally irrelevant.

It's pretty obvious who i support.Like it's pretty obvious that you are talking shit.Go ring or write to the AFL and ask them how many premierships teams have won.You will see you are wrong.By the way Port Power have won 0 flags. While port adelaide have won-really who cares how many they have won.The VFA reserves teams would have won flags in the sanfl.

One other thing port fan.It seems to make out that it's the Victorian clubs some how are benefiting from there so called VFL premierships being added to their AFL premierships.Well if say somehow Frankston from the VFL(old VFA comp) joined the AFL then it's premierships would not be counted.Just because a league changes its name doesn't mean it loses all its history-because that is exactly what you are saying. You are saying if the sanfl changed its name then all the old records should not count.

Please refrain from such abuse, you are obviously misguided or simply reading your own thoughts and not my posts...

I have stated over and over and over..I acknowledge the former VFL, I dont want the Current AFL clubs records erased..What is it with you guys ??

I am just voicing my opinion with regards to premierships won in the VFL local parochial comp, and premierships won on a national level in the AFL

i.e. Collingwood 14 VFL premierships
1 AFL premiership
------------------
for a total of 15 senior premierships
I am not advocating these former VFL now AFL clubs divest themselves of their history,
I am just advocating that the records be shown truly and correctly..

For example...If a Foreign tourist comes to Australia and asks " How many AFL flags has Essendon won" ?, some would immediately like to say 16. If the tourist says, " Hey, but didnt Essendon belong to a state based comp called the VFL last time I was here "?

You say "yes" , but since then the comp has gone national ,added city based clubs to it and is now named AFL " the tourist says oh! How many GF's did it win when it was a local league and how many since it went national"

You say Its always been the AFL it was always the same, it has never been a local league everything is relative, nothing has changed etc etc"

but it has...

sooooooooooo...

Acknowledge the History of Essendon correctly

14 VFL flags
2 AFL premierships
------------------
for a total of 16 senior premierships

No dilution of history , total historical accuracy and honesty.

simple...

Mags

Pa1870,

Actually, Collingwood has won 14 premierships in this competiton not 15 (1902,03,10,17,19,27,28,29,30,35,36,53,58,90)

Mags, yes I am banned, hence the unregistered name.

As most of the Vic clubs existed in the VFA and before, and we are supposed to count VFL, AFL, and OFL (for arguments sake) flags, then we should count the full history of the clubs maybe? Let's make it really confusing for all prospective new fans. It's only fair because a couple of interstate fans think that new fans might believe that Collingwood won all 14 flags against them, thus making them appear to be losers. As we know, a new fan capable of reading the premiership tallies could not be capable of reading the clubs formation date as well. A formation date, I might add that appears under every clubs history when listing their achievements and...premierships. What a crock of shit this has become.
