Justin Kozi-like awareness
Have you ever played the game? How many times have you gone to tackle an opponent receiving a handball and have expected a kung fu kick to be there waiting to greet your face? I would say it is something a footballer would not expect nor should he.

You obviously don't know the rules so stop with this "rubbish" when you are clearly wrong. ANY head high contact can be deemed reportable. The head is sacrosanct or have you been living under a rock for the last few years?
It's true what you say, head high contact is reportable, but, any reportable offense is also fightable, if he fights this, i can see him winning.
he had every right to defend his space, if he just jumped and took the ball, there was a good chance he got hurt.

I've been following the game for a long time and I can't say I ever recall seeing something like this happen.

it happens about 20 times per round. the only difference is a kick or a handball the manner in which the ball arrived.

the situation is identical to the guy about to get pummeled

Greene has got discipline issues, if nothing else, and it is not helping his club at all.

his high level of football is helping his team

What about reckless? Danger and Grundy didnt intend to knock out players but still recieved suspensions.

Where do you start and end with ****ing "reckless"?

Any ruling here would again rewrite the contact interpretation of the game and send it even further in to netball territory.

Why? because the contact rules as they stand cannot be simply applied to the bottom of football boots.

It's a Pandoras box that needs to be kept shut mate. This is a matter of be careful what you wish for, just in case you get it.

He walks, and then they make a slight alteration to the rules next year.

Toby is a better and smarter from than average.

if hes given a 'suicide' handball its only open to protect yourself. someone like mummy could have killed him from that vulnerable spot in mid air otherwise
So players don't do it every other week?

I'd say giving away a free and getting reported (again) isn't smart

Nobody is saying it is indefensible. However, he has been reported and I can see why. I also can't see how he would be hurt if he just took the handball without thudding his feet. He just would have been tackled and that is all. Why would you have expected Dahlhaus to hurt him?

they do it every week more often from a kick that hangs in the air

it shouldn't have been a free kick. soft emotional umpiring
Head high fend offs are always a free kick...

Can you provide some evidence for players using their foot to fend every week?

I was benched for near on a quarter after being hit while in mid air, could have been much worse.

Read the rules. It is clearly stated that when in a marking contest the same rules do NOT apply.

it was still a catching contest wasnt it

just one that would not have been given a free kick as a mark

It was his decision to jump in the air too. He could have easily waited on the ground .

yes , what a dickhead for getting the ball

Contact to head.

Moderate impact.

Reckless.

Diabolical record.

3 weeks down to 2 at best.

You cannot 'protect your space' by using any part of your body to another players head. The head is sacrosanct. It was not a marking contest or 'Spekky', he was simply taking possession of the Football. You cannot touch a players head in any circumstances, especially with force, especially using the studs of your boot.

He's f**ked.

Have you ever played footy and had someone fend off with a boot?
Anecdote doesn't show anything.

So you're saying players can make high contact to prevent a legal tackle because the legal tackle may hurt them?

A catching contest? Lol. Are you serious? That is just plain stupid. If you don't know that there is a difference between a mark and a handball receive then there is no use discussing this. The RULES themselves say there is a difference. READ THEM.

Dahlhaus ran into the foot, he didn't kick him on purpose
Wot

Dahlhaus was slowing down when he got within 3m of Greene and basically came to a halt with Greene's leg half bent and his foot 1m from his face. You can tell Dahlhaus saw the foot and tried to avoid it (evidenced by him putting his hands up). It was Greene's second action that caught Dahlhaus off guard.
