Tall forward or midfielder who is strong overhead and a dangerous player around goals. Played two games for Vic Metro in the NAB AFL U18 Championships and has been very impressive in the TAC Cup this year. Grandson of former Geelong premiership captain Fred Wooller. Showcased his endurance at the Draft Combine with his 6:32 for 2km outstanding for a player of his size.

The Brisbane Lions have selected key forward Toby Wooller with Pick No. 41.

Wooller is a strong forward from the Oakleigh Chargers and grandson of 1963 Geelong premiership captain Fred Wooller.

He finished third on the TAC Cup goalkicking list this season with 43 majors and has impressive endurance for a big man.

TOBY Wooller expected to be physically tested at last month's NAB AFL Draft Combine, but he rated his club interview with Adelaide as the most challenging assessment.

The forward prospect walked into a 'perfect storm', as the Crows had just days earlier lost the Grand Final to Richmond, while in the preceding hours gun defender Jake Lever had requested a trade to Melbourne.

The Adelaide delegation thoroughly probed the Victorian on whether he was another 'flight risk'.

"It was a bit daunting because (Adelaide coach) Don Pyke was in there, so I didn't really know what to expect but it went well," Wooller told AFL.com.au.

"They talked about loyalty and asked me my thoughts on that, but I told them I'm happy to go anywhere to play AFL football and my family would fully support me.

"I just answered every question honestly."

Bit of resemblance to Daniel Bradshaw?

From the article above

With Wooller highly likely to be selected in November's NAB AFL Draft, he sees himself as a far-roaming half-forward at AFL level, with a key Crow an idol and a possible future teammate.

"I see myself playing the second or third tall forward role at AFL level, because I'm only 193cm," Wooller said.

"I model my game on Tom Lynch from Adelaide, and I've really studied how he plays this year."

I’ve long been of the belief we have been in desperate need of a Tom Lynch Adelaide type. Hoping this kid can make a real fist of it over the next 2 to 3 years

My thoughts exactly ...... and I thought that Allen was that man .... and when he was available at 15, and then 18, I thought that was the way to go.
Don't know why I overlooked Wooller for such a role....he just didn't enter into my "pre-draft thinking" for some reason.....but I now recognise his suitability, and am pleased with his selection.

Looks a smart player.I noticed in the highlights a couple of times his opponent had prime position and he used his body to push them under the ball without infringing.

Has a really nice skill set that would complimentary to Hippy and a resting second ruckman. When he develops he could rotatate between 3rd tall/CHF/FF. Which would be very valuable

I liked the article where he got grilled by the Crows.

Even a worst case the magoos will have a really nice structure over the next few years for players to develop and that alone is super important

Have watched a little of the Oakleigh Charges captain Toby Wooller and was very excited to hear us call his name out at #41 in the 2017 draft - thought I would share a couple of my photos from the week 1 - TAC Cup final against the Northern Knights. Toby actually spent a small amount of time on the ball, running through the midfield matched up with Coffield - I hope he is also given some time in the middle during the NEAFL next year, looking forward to following his developement over the years, this kid could be a cracker!

BALLLL!!!!! Forward pressure tackle results in a free and GOAL for the Oakleigh captain.

Old school 'don't argue' on the opposite wing leading to an inside 50.

Can find time and space - and uses it well, kicked 3 goals for the game.

He may have supported Geelong and have had some connection through his granddad, however Geelong clearly did not rate him. They had three picks before the Lions picked him and on each occasion Geelong chose someone else. Geelong were perfectly positioned to take him at pick 36 instead they chose a plodder by the name of Constable. Wooler should keep that in mind and make Geelong pay for their neglect.

Very bullish about this kid. Thinking an upgrade on Close. Big tank, hard at it and can take a contested overhead mark.(with the latter 2 differentiating to Close) Nice choice it seems at this early stage.

Nice tweet from Toby after the draft saying he is stoked to be part of the Brisbane Lions and can't wait to meet the boys and get stuck in up North. Good feeling about this kid.

Reminds me of Mick Close

Same. Actually after the above post I thought he is like Close.

I'll remind people that against Adelaide Close took 3 contested marks and received a free in the marking contest. He was then dropped. His contested marking was developing pretty well.

Very similar to Close except for that kicking style, Wooler seems to have a nice simple and relaxed style and doesn't drop the ball from his neck!

I really liked Close and wish he had been given one more year but I could have boiled an egg between his ball drop and the time it hit his foot.

It wasn't great but over his career he kicked 24 goals 7 which is excellent.

What a draft present, with the late bid on Ballanden. Having seen some clips, and watched his interview I am bullish on this kid. Has the skills and athleticism - and loves the physical - with just the right bit of mongrel in him. Could well be the steal of this draft.

I was a bit sad we didn't give him another year. The fact he wasn't picked up says something but I'm happy to ignore that
