Ive noticed a similar vein in threads where conservatives flat out dont believe that something was done in the pursuit of the almighty dollar - you provide them with a bunch of links to back your story up and they just go quiet.

i dont think in most cases this is malicious or deliberate - i just dont think its on their radar - and when they do seeit they think its an isolated incident.

I think as a result of being in a lefty bubble these things come up in your feed more often so you are more aware of what an uncontrollable savage beast it has become.

The banking royal commission should have given people a bit of an insight.

The fact that noone is facing jail yet another.

The McLibel case is a great example of this sort of thing.
Never heard of that before / read up and found this gem:

<<<In June 1995 McDonald's offered to settle the case (which "was coming up to its [tenth] anniversary in court"[12]) by donating a large sum of money to a charity chosen by the two. They further specified they would drop the case if Steel and Morris agreed to "stop criticising McDonald's".[12] Steel and Morris secretly recorded the meeting, in which McDonald's said the pair could criticise McDonald's privately to friends but must cease talking to the media or distributing leaflets. Steel and Morris wrote a letter in response saying they would agree to the terms if McDonald's ceased advertising its products and instead only recommended the restaurant privately to friends.[9]>>>

Interestingly that case and cases like it is the real reason some of corporate uk likes brexit

It's a fantastic tale, a pair of crusties taking McDonald's all they way and the lengths that Maccas took to prosecute the case are breathtaking. Read John Vidal's book on it, it's excellent.

The bit the left fail to understand about capitalism, isn't that capitalism doesn't have issues such as fraud, corruption or brutality. Rather, it is when it does happen, governments, unions and other companies can act.

Capitalism has many benefits but two key one's are separating risk balance sheets from government and the segregation of power.

It should be worthwhile noting coca cola probably doesn't own or operate this bottling company. So the pressure to apply to coca cola needs to be put into the context of revoking the license to the bottler.

Always thought that good government was all about having a strong middle class. Helping or encouraging the poor to able become middle class as easily as possible and to ensure that striving to excel is rewarded.

Unfortunately greed is a problrm with Capatalism and if not reigned in inequality is the result.

Personaly in Australia the Eighties was where the balance was about right with free education, union powers lessened but still had a role and you got rewarded by doing well

And that was when it all started going to s**t.

The average Australians proportion of our national wealth has been falling since the 80s. Unles we change how we do things well hit something soon and it'll hurt.

Neither of them available on my fairly extensive streaming services

I would make two points here.

What is more preferable and achievable: ensuring as many people as possible have "enough", or wealth equality?

I would also bring up the fact that organisations and businesses are merely collections of humans. A corporation cannot be "evil" if it does not have "evil" people inside it. I think a lot of the commentary around "corporations not people" actually solidifies the lack of personal responsibility that people who use capitalistic opportunities to cause misery should have.

it should also be noted the courts (the government) through this out of court. Does that mean our governments both executive and the judicial are corrupt?

if so, does that mean we should remove powers from our governments or expand them?

Unfettered capitalism is every part as bad as unfettered socialism.
You know why? Its simple.

Like Communism & Fascism, Neo-Capitalism will fail because they share something in common - they're totalitarian ideologies which place upholding the ideology's key principles above the welfare of those living under it. The unyielding nature of these systems is what makes them incompatible with large-scale human collectives and the hardline acolytes who espouse them would rather such systems be kept "pure" to their original doctrines even that creates unnecessary human suffering.

Democracy, the least-worst antidote might be the answer. We should try it sometime.

agree

to keep the system running with longevity, a system must cater the following:
1) hope and opportunity for the ambitious
2) a base case for the weakest and most vulnerable in society

medicare, universal education, the dole and pension are concepts of this. Essentially capitalism doesn't work without elements of socialism and it certainly doesn't work without regulations and laws. That begs the question should the regulator, tax collector and social wealth distributor also be the operator?

I dare say that question answers why certain systems fail and others don't

Do you mean threw this out of court?

It would be fair to say 3 things

1. Very few on this board understand Capitalism.

2. Lefties love an echo chamber, so they can bounce group think around. Congratulations you found the biggest echo chamber in town.

3. Conservatism does not equal capitalism.

Isn't that the point of them?

Oh I’m sorry, do international corporations have different rules in third world countries
I think so. The idea of justice is very different in Australia than it is in Indonesia where you can pay money and avoid justice.

You can't buy off police here as if it were cultural. That matters.

Billionaires are the only ones getting richer.
I actually think everyone's share of the pie is increasing in value, just those that have more of the pie to begin with are ending up with more pie.

The quality and standard of living has improved in just my lifetime. To the point where it's all taken for granted now.
