This is in no way a troll but I guess you guys will probably red card me for this but here it goes;

While I agree you guys can certainly take more than a few positives out of the game i.e setanta, russell, judd and murphy I don't understand how more than a few of you arn't that dissapointed by the loss.

52 points is a fairly substantial margin, and from flogging the cats last week to this, the last thing I would be is satisfied.

When the pies lost to the saints a few weeks ago, I was furious. As shown last week you can match it with the best teams in the comp, anything less than that should be a disappointment.
Dont worry, I agree with you.....did not see a 52 point flogging coming out way....but then against, the last 10 mins of the 4th quater we had packed up and gone home, and the Pies scored a few junk time goals to blow the final margin out.

After clawing back and getting to within a kick, I honestly thought we could only lose by a goal or 2....how wrong I was.

I'm not sure you were watching the same game. Collingwood dominated except for about a 15 minutes period in the third quarter.

I think people have to give credit to opposition sides when they don't play as well as they usually do, because otherwise you look like you're just looking for excuses. I mean, Geelong didn't play as well as they normally do last week; I'd hazard a guess if they did, they obviously would have won (I don't think many people can argue against this).

Aside from last week, your only wins have been against Adelaide and Richmond (the 2 worst sides in the competition - 0-6...)

Anyway, not having a dig at anyone, I'm delirious enough as it is :P, but yeah, I don't think after beating Geelong you should be making those excuses. Again, that's not up to me though :)

Having said that, aside from 2 bad mistakes early (everyone makes them), we should've brought some kryptonite for Judd. What a _____ machine. Aside from Irish (who really just kicked straight), all credit goes to the man that from my skewed vantage point, almost single handedly gave you back the lead from a 40 point deficit. Definitely brought the crowd back into it :P
And your team has done what? mouth of all you want but the fact is the Saints tought you a leasson in footy. So as it stands mate you are as far of from a grand final win as us.

One goal difference in the first where we dominated the I50s but missed easy opportunities.

Smashed in the 2nd. Were the better team for the first half of the third. Was goal for goal for the remainder of the quarter until Collingwood managed 3 very late goals.

Goal for goal for most of the last until the last ten minutes when we gave up.

Three lapses which really hurt us. One period where Carlton dominated. The remainder was a fairly even contest.

I guess it's easy for me to sit up on my high horse after a win and pass judgment. But you guys are a good team and any loss should be a bitter disappointment especially considering how good your best football can be.

Carlton are a top 6-8 team, Collingwood slightly ahead as a top 4 team. You guys should really have put up more of a fight today, especially after you got to 3 points down. A 52 point loss is never acceptable no matter the opposition.

You guys deserve better!

I agree, you guys are a top 4 team. my question is how is any team going to stop the Saints? With Roo back in time for finals what team is going to be good enough.

I just do not want a Saints Collingwood GF because i hate the Saints but i really hate the Pies :)

Eeeek please don't even mention finals to me.
Oh and please beat the saints next week.

Without Judds brilliance we were a mile behind the Wobblers. There were numerous passages of play where it was an arm wrestle that we either won because of Juddy or Collingwood did because they always had another player joining the contest. Collingwood are a wonderfully consistent team and maybe if Dawes or an equivalent can do what he did today and someone like Ball () kick 3 goals then they may go further than top 4

Or more to the point - how are we going to stop the Saints next Monday. There will be a lot more pressure than there was today :(

I agree Judd was brilliant today one of the best on the ground, however the one knock I have on Judd's game is he is never accountable for his direct opponents.

Collingwood rotated Pendles, Thomas, Wellingham and Johson on him today and all 4 had superb games. It's all well and good to get 40 touches, but when your opponents are also running free and your team is getting consecutive goals kicked against them he needs to tighten up.

I'm not too disappointed about today's effort.
Considering, and this is not an excuse but a fact, the hard, tough game last week against the reigning premier we really took it up to the pies today.
Coming back from 38 points down to within a kick twice would have taken it out of the boys and when the pies came back like we knew they would, the six day break would have really affected us. We wasted a lot of energy coming back from so far down that I think we needed to hit the lead to continue our momentum. The margin flattered them as we were shot from early in the last. We needed a few quick ones early but they didn't come. Full credit to the pies who played well, but to let us back into the game from 38 points in front... well, good sides don't do that.
8 days break now till the saints and I am really confident with Waite and maybe a couple back.

They all didn't play on him at the same time... Hard to blame Juddy when they weren't on him for the majority of the game.
How many possessions or goals did each of them get when they were on Juddy for those short periods of the game?
You wouldn't even have any idea...

You're right im not sure about how many goals / assists those players scored while playing on Judd. All i'm saying is when the game was there to be won, Judd was chasing his ball and those players were chasing theirs. Eventually we won by a fair margin, and those players played a significant role in that.

None of them 'tagged' him per-say they went head to head, and at somestage he needed to try and stem the flow.

Are people still clinging to this as an excuse?
FFS. We were flogged all day, third quarter aside. We stuff around with the ball and create goals for the opposition because of this.

Several places should be up for grabs this week. How anyone can say Bret Thornton will get traded/delisted when his contract is up is deluded!
We just conceded 24 goals. 155 points! Jamieson got flogged. Several Pies players had a free run today and we paid for it.

Jarrad Waite must return. He is more talented and is more of a threat than Henderson. Hendo has almost had no effect in the last 2 games.

After our win last week I was expecting a lot more. I still teams who f**k around with the ball make Collingwood look better than they are. But good win.

Thought jamo was his usual solid self. White/Hendo got flogged. Bower, army,JR all solid considering how well/often the ball was going in.

Yes you guys got beat today, as much as you would like to disagree Collingwood (at the moment) are the better of the two sides.
In saying that, what a great game of football it was today. Don't let the 50 odd points take away from what was on display. Big irish showed something today and alot was not on the stats sheet, he had presence. Judd (no more needs to be said), the man's a star. A lot of the blues players showed promise that should have the Carlton faithfull excited.
At the end of the day it was a top game and with 5 minutes to go I was so into the game, that I didn't realise how far in front we were.
Keep playing that brand of football, if nothing else it is great to watch.

Are you saying Collingwood are not a good team?
Well you beat the bulldogs who are 8th and who have only beat Richmond, Hawthorn and Adelaide.
You beat the Dees by a point and as you would admit, were lucky to win.
You kicked a total of four goals against St. Kilda who had no riewoldt for the entire second half and got smashed.
You then beat the box hill hawks who just got smashed by the bummers.
And then you beat the bummers who aren't travelling the best.
You then beat us coming off a tough bruising encounter with the reigning premiers who we defeated by 6 goals. Compound that with the six day break to your 7. Add to that the fact you squandered a 38 point lead to within a kick and you let the big Irishman kick 5.

What do you think?

So maybe it was more a case of McLean doing SFA

**** I hate us putting other players in bad positions. Happened too often today, handballing to a man that was clearly in the shits.

Hence I am nearly on Alpha's no carrots diet

When we were getting smashed in the centre clearances we were usually getting first hands on ball but our exits were getting chopped off.Perhaps poise, experience? Considering Pies should be top 4 and us aiming for 8 I thought we showed promise but once the game was gone lacked a bit of fight.

Exactly but where were those players when Juddy was getting his 40? Those four were playing on him and he still got near forty. They all played good games but the majority of their games were not playing head to head with JC. Sorry... CJ. I get confused at times with the things he can do on the ground.
