i thought jackson was pretty good. a nice goal and did a great job on braun who had a very limmited impact on the game. (at least thats who they said he was playing on, cant trust fox footy commentators :) )

He surely did. He played a bit over half the game on the ground and beat Braun completely. He has pace, size and strength. He really should have been playing in the seniors for most of the last 2 seasons in replace of Johnson as tagger

Whilst you can't fault Jake King's endeavour, his disposal is dreadful. He is not in our best 22 and I'm concerened that the club would draft a 23 YO midget who can't hit a target....

He should be a last resort option.

I agree with you. At the game yesterday I couldn't believe how small he is. Great trier just wish he was ten centimetres taller.

I know the umpiring done our heads in but I reckon a lot of it is to do with the fact that those pricks from the Eagles are just so big, wonder why?
When they tackle, the arms are pinned and thats the end of it.Whilst we tackled with great endeavour, they always got an arm free.Hence we got pinged and they didn't
Mind you the fact that they are a glamour side and we aren't doesn't help. The maggots get swept up in it all.

The Schultz / Hughes combination worked well with both leading with authority and more importantly into the right holes. These two guys can allow the classic mopper up, small hlf fwd really play with some confidence. I for one think we missed Krakeour today.

Polaks courage especially running back into packs for marks is excellent. Another preseason under his belt and he will be getting to the crest of his ability.

McGuane is all raw, gangly, enthusiastic energy matched to a good turn of speed and spring. Composure will come from experience.

Ability to run at 100% and kick is still lacking, sloppy skills where ruthlessly punished by the eagles.

As much as Richo absence from the fwd 50 gave us more targets and options his decision making borders on a liability.

As much as we all thought that McGuanne, Thursfiled and Polak would make Gasper redundant, Richo's may have something to worry about as well.

He isn't the best of kicks but his pressure and attack on the footy is something we massively lack.

As the bloke near me today said many times during the game

'Gaspar doesn't know where his opponent or the ball is half the time. He probably doesn't even realise he's out there playing footy!!' (many expletives were used)

Don't be suprised if we go on a Bulldogs 2005 run in the last half of the season. Just seems that some of the younger guys are starting to settle into their roles now (McGuane, Foley) and starting to become familiar with our game. Just got that feeling....

I had that thought too.

McGuane, Polak and hopefully Thursfield can hold our defence up for 10+ years. :thumbsu:

Schulz's 4 behinds probably cost us the game, all of them should have been goals.

Jackson did a pretty good tagging job.

Hughes was quite good and he did chase although looking slow.

When did Newman break his leg? He is a gun :)

Raines and JB back to their running best.

I thought that too. Was my only real concern about him yesterday. His running lacked fluency. His running looked similar to polak earlier in the year but yesterday polak didnt look slow at all. So hopefully with some fitness and a technical tweak he'll find pace.

The thing that intrigued me, and it is an awfully fine line here so I'm not bagging you mob..... yes the team put up a good showing, but watching a lot of supporters boo off the umpires, and then clap off the players (who in reality did commit plenty of clangers and miss kicks at goal that could have won them the match), does this send the right message? Yes they got some shockers from the umpires, but Johnson's comments at the press conference and this theme of what an outstanding effort it was but the umpires crucified us, does this help the team's development?

I want to tread very carefully here, as I can understand how dispapointed you would be with tonight's game, but I posted this last week earlier in this thread, and followed it up with a comment suggesting I hoped the players didn't walk away from last week thinking "#%@! we're good, we ran the premiers all the way and got r*ped by the umpires".......

On tonight's effort, any credence here? Your young guys looked so good last week. Couldn't believe I was watching the same team tonight.
