Tony Shaw was right when he said Banfield hasn't shown any improvement since he started. There are just no signs of development in terms of his ability to execute skills.

I'd agree, but I'm also sick of Shaw saying that Banfield needs to play, or learn to play in the middle. His lack of one-touch ability is the exact reason why he is not played in those roles.
It will be interesting to see how many games he will get into the future as he offers us turbo speed that we sorely lack.It may come to a point where that won't be enough but in the short term I think he is pretty safe in a team of our ability. If Green and Zorko are tried and fail he might get 200 games. It's this lack of ability that will be the difference with him being a top player to a mid range player. I don't mind following my team when they are in a position of development over a fairly long duration of time however it is this lack of development in Banfield that will not take us forward. I'm harsh but if there isn't improvement soon in his touch then somebody else like Green or Zorko should get their chance.
Unfortunately the best way to allow him to improve on his fumbles is to keep playing him in the seniors. I find it interesting he has so many doubters after playing one of his best games against Gold Coast.
I didn't have a critical mindset at my age at the time, but what was the common opinion of Craig McRae at the same point in his career?
Akermanis is the better comparison. Bright start, but massive questions being asked about his career trajectory at around this point. Had fallen into a much bigger hole than Banners.
Easily could have been delisted. Was only when he was moved into the backline that it all suddenly clicked.
Aker had just a touch more natural talent, but.

Brown's load up forward doesn't seem likely to be lightened any time soon if... small forwards such as Todd Banfield do a disappearing act on the scale of his scarcely noticeable presence yesterday.

I'd just like to see him put somewhere else to try and get him in the game. Chuck him in the centre for the bounce or make be accountable down back.
Yeah I've been more patient that most with him but he's in a serious slide. Even his defensive impact is absent now. Needs to go back to a lower level and develop the belief again.
In the meanwhile, bring on Green.
