He'll be nearly 35yo when this new contract expires ….

Been a good player for the Kangas but three years seems a little generous.

Geelong offered 4 years so i think they had to offer him 3 to keep him.

I mean, if they've think they've got their long term ruck solution sorted out then this shouldn't matter too much.

But for North who have put a decent premium on youth recently (Larkey, Thomas etc.) you would think they need their "next" ruckman to start coming through in the next couple years. Goldstein is very unlikely to be playing when the youth on this list is hopefully contending for flags, so in that aspect 3 years seems like it could be over the top.

You have no other ruckman on the list ??

No wonder they sacked Scott.
What are you on about?
Scott was the coach not the list manager.

Goldstein is a gun ruckman who has barely missed a game in ten years. His last two years have been so good Geelong were willing to offer him a four year contract.
North have a back up ruck plus a couple of young rucks on the list. It makes complete sense to sign him for three years while the young guys have a chance to develop. He could well play for longer.

Not a top 5 ruck in the league!!

Campbell is to cover injury and Xerri is a kid that is developing to take over.

Goldy is gun - can ruck 90% of game time and is very durable. Yet we should have traded him.

2 top level years left and the 3rd to hand over to Xerri. Its a good plan and why we are lucky Bigfooty is not in charge of our list management.

Stick a fork in him, he is done. Doubt any team is desperate enough to pick him, and really has become a trade liability for North. They were better off keeping Preuss and just leave Goldy In The VFL.

Can see why NMFC fans are filthy on Brad Scott.
Pull the fork out!! He has wound the clock back.

19 disposals, 51 hit outs and a clutch goal = BOG!!

What’s a Pruess?

Yep. Should see his career out at North. Been one of their bests this year and a very good player for a long time.

Need to look after him now and keep him as a one club player.

Traded a Free Agent and be without a ruckman?
to be fair it wouldn't have put you in much of a worse position than you are in for this year

Letting him go and getting a late 1st rounder or early second rounder would have been a good list management decision

Free agent - no way we were getting a 1st round pick or early 2nd.

Prepared to admit I got this wrong. Thought he was on the way down last year but he’s been the best ruck in the comp this year.

Obviously unlikely to be at this level in 2 years time but he has plenty of room to drop off while still offering decent value at AFL level.

He should be handy in the change over to help Xerri. I have zero issues with keeping him.
No doubt he is a gun and having a great year but keeping him until 35 is a big risk especially if you can't turn this form slump around and it becomes a proper rebuild

But you can say that about a lot of players at a lot of teams. You should traded Jones in 2017 when he had currency, Kennedy at the Swans, Smith at the Hawks. Walker at the Crows, Blues with Murphy and Simpson.

Some players are also heart and soul players and would do more damage than good to flick them. Being a 1 club player still means something to some as well.
