Viney was one tough MowFoe on the ground - an onballer at that - and basically had the G&D to hold the Demon MF together while they went through some tough times.

He also has a physiotherapy / Phys. Ed / Sports Science / Teacher background IIRC.... - which would be an attractive feature.

I think I like the idea.....:thumbsu:
Just about my all time favourite player. Was a Demons fan prior to the crows. The other Melbourne midfielders feared him such was his attack on the ball.

As a coach, I'm not sure. Like MD though it sounds good so far.

Seems to be a done deal.

My Dad knows Todds brother and his Bro rang Todd today and asked him about it, and the response was

It sounds dodgy I know, but I would anticipate he is definatley coming.

Interesting thought. do you think he would be interested? he has a lot of media commitments, which would be a lot easier and probably pay a lot more than being an assistant coach at an AFL Club.

I like the idea though........

Maybe we can bring back Blighty as an assitant coach... :thumbsu:

Blighty in the box just for Matchday, now that's interesting. Will never happen but you can just imagine

hmmm - I'd welcome the flying headband at the club.....but have SEN been right about anything recently.....?
They just said position offered....very open ended statement.

Meh!!

We need someone with more flair, a lateral thinker, someone with a tendency to take risks and a natural sense of when to take them.

We too often let the opposition coaches take the initiative. We stick to the percentages in every contest. Its brought a high winning percentage, but when its there to be taken on the big stage, we are too conservitive and dont roll the dice.

My perception of Todd Viney is he fits the mould of the current coaching group. He doest seem to me to bring anything new or different to the group.

Weren't the same criticisms raised and levelled at Woosha?

If the team personnel and the gameplan is good enough ....Didn't Brisbane win 3 flags with an unimaginative style of game

I actually think Leigh matthews has the qualities I wrote about. Sure they played with structure and discipline, but they also played with flair and creativity.

I also think Woosha coaches with more flair and creativity than NC and our group does. Thats why they always seem to be playing the lead role in games against us and we always seem to be playing defensively and in reaction to them.

I just dont think we have diversity in our group. I think we need a new perspective, not more of the same and that what I see in Viney. I'm not meaning to bag the guy, but I think a more colourful personality might be what we need in what I perceive as a rigid, structured, ultra disciplined environment.

I think Craig has indicated that he needs players in the side with greater flexibility ....perhaps to allow Craig to pull some moves as you say.

But I cannot agree that Woosha has more flair than Craig .....it's his players, in particular his midfield that play with flair which in turn is probably influencing your perception.

Yes our midfield does not have the same flair, or the the same speed...but that's player not coach
