Watching Australia v Argentina at the moment. Can't believe the Aussies are up 1-0 but it must be said it looks like Argentina's 3rd string side out there. Not sure why they bring out their depth players for Olympics.

Going to keep an eye on the Tennis & Basketball as well, and hopefully remember to watch some of the track and swimming.

Opening ceremony is at 9pm tomorrow night AEST.

Vic is only an hour behind Tokyo too which is good, can watch most of the events at reasonable times.

Under 23’s + 3 overage players this Olympics. But everyone has to get permission from their professional clubs first. World class players barely ever play in the Olympics. I think Messi and Aguero won it back in 2008 for Argentina though.
I know England had a dispute with the IOC decades ago and they don't participate in it at all. Takes a bit away from the whole thing really. Basketball doesn't do that so I guess the integrity of that tournament is intact.

Yeah Olympics soccer means nothing, which is a bit sad. It’s all about the World Cup and to a lesser extent Euros and the other Continental championships. Yeh, basketball at the Olympics means a lot more. Pretty much everything else at the Olympics is the world’s best, soccer the only thing that’s not. Although, there’s probably other sports I’m unaware of. Oh, tennis! From memory, tennis usually has weak entrants.

Yeah boxing is pretty poor, only amateurs allowed. Completely different rules to the pro game too.

Pretty sure pros are now allowed. Matter of fact certain because the Aussie heavyweight that caught gallon was going to fight but got injured.
I guess not many care in that case. Only amateurs this year and if there's any pros they are probably average. Haven't seen the participants.

Many great professional careers have been launched off Olympic gold, it’s a very prestigious event.

The judges are often appalling and some results are daylight robbery but it’s still worth watching, generally the aussies have been badly outclassed but who knows.

Nah I know, I'm just saying there's none there that I really know. Amateur and professional is just a completely different ball game.

There was Lenny Hayes references during last nights game.

**** Roids when the spirit of Lenny will bring Australia all the golds

Don't know much about soccer but the Olyroos looked by far the better team with there deft touches to players , our younger guys look like they are better than the socceroos
Watching the Socceroos gives me Saints PTSD. Some glory days where we did well for our weight but never won anything huge. Carried off the back of one star forward Tim Cahill who played far into his old age still being our best player. Sometimes being able to hold even in midfield and defence against top sides but having absolutely no scoring power. We only manage to score off of arsey free kicks or dumb luck from crossing to headers.

It’s like watching the long bombs to our tall forwards that just get gobbled up by good opposition. You never expect to actually score watching the Socceroos, it’s just a pleasant surprise.

You still love watching them nevertheless as they get thumped valliantly.

U23's is a FIFA requirement - they don't want the Olympics to devalue the World Cup.

Thought Australia played a great game - really stretched Argentina on the counter attack, always looked a threat of scoring. Pretty handy first touch by Tilio.
