Add to that in more individual sports like swimming (to a small extent) or judo, combatants coming together in embrace after the comp or on the podium. They may never see or speak to each other again but their moment will be captured for an eternity.

Friendships be made in other cases across cultures and races.

SEN are the official station. It's funny when they bring it back to AFL....

Those sports where little to no money is involved, you can see the respect among competitors, as they know that they have all sacrificed so much, just to be there.

Like the woman from the Phillipines who just won their first ever gold medal in the weightlifting, was training in a crappy gym due to the poor government funding, and pushed through and won, just those sort of stories make the Olympics unique in itself.

Persecuted by her own government too, had to go to Malaysia because COVID was rampant, then had to relocate within Malaysia because of COVID again, and beg for money on social media to get a nutritionist, physio and coach to help her after scraping together the money to find a gym. You could tell from her and her coach's expression how much it meant to them.

Totally agree. There is nothing like the Olympics. I still have my Olympic scrapbooks that I made when I was 8 of the Atlanta Olympics. I look back on them and laugh but from an early age I was obsessed with the Olympics and everything about them, and to this day I (obviously) still am. No idea what the ratings are like here or internationally but I hope they are strong, people say the Olympics are dying and no one wants to host them, but I think if people sat down to watch something, they’d actually get hooked. The stories, emotion, passion and skill is unrivalled.

I suppose I’ll switch the volleyball over for the Kookaburras haha.

I hear ya mate.

I even rolled out my old favourite socks, from my favourite Games.

Yeah I was glad she did so well in the Clean and Jerk, the Fillipino woman I see for a massage only does the Jerk and Clean

Love those socks!! Haven’t had a chance to go to the newsagents for a while, is there some kind of official magazine this year? Surely?

Looking really good now, threatening to blow the game apart.

Don’t know, good question. Doesn’t seem to be the same level of merch as in the past. I pulled my replica Lillehammer torch out of the cupboard for a run too haha

Australian men about to take on NZ in Rugby 7's. Will give a fair indicator of where they are at and the likelihood of a medal...

Aussie team finished 8th in 10m Air Pistol. Solid.

I feel that we should be investing more in shooting program in the lead up to 2032. It is a medal rich sport and our results have dropped off over the years.

This is how brutal the Olympics can be… one of the athletes I follow on Insta. The hashtags are “breaksmyheart” repeated a good 20 times :(
