TBF to the road team it wasn't game plan/tactics that meant that they weren't a factor - it was a combination of
- the course
- the riders selected
- the requirement that the TT riders be part of the road team and
- the decision to rest Rohan Dennis from the road race for the road TT (which probably ended up being pivotal in him getting Bronze).
The course of the road race was best suited to climbers who had a bit of punch and Australia just doesn't have that sort of rider at the moment
Absolutely agree that is appears that we have slipped in the track disciplines and that there were a number of egregious tactical mistakes that could/should, in large part, be put down to coaching
