This is an absolute disgrace, from Tom Boyd especially.
The kids on a ridiculous amount of money and he goes out and let's his teammates and coaches down by getting pissed. Absolute embarrassment.

The Western Bulldogs Football Club confirms that it has dealt with an incident in the last several weeks involving two of its players; Tom Boyd and Zaine Cordy.

The incident involved an altercation between Tom and Zaine, in which both players were affected by alcohol.

The Club is strongly against any form of violent behaviour and is extremely disappointed in the actions of both players, particularly by the actions of Tom.

The Club has responded by invoking a range of sanctions and other measures:

  • - It has required Tom and Zaine to apologise and explain their conduct to their teammates and colleagues
  • - It has required Tom to undergo appropriate counselling
  • - It has suspended Tom and Zaine from AFL selection until the Club deems it appropriate for both to return
  • - It has imposed the maximum available fine of $5000 in respect of the relevant unacceptable aspects of Tom’s behaviour
Tom and Zaine have accepted these sanctions, and they have all been implemented.

Additionally, Tom has volunteered a significant personal contribution of time and money to a not for profit organisation focused on the prevention of social violence.

Tom and Zaine have committed to the Club that there will be no repetition of such behaviour and that they will atone to their teammates and the Club.

The Club accepts the sincerity of their remorse and commitment. We will continue to fully support both players.

The Club will have no further comment to make on the matter.

Punching on. Statement up on website. Can't link, on phone, but statement seems to put more blame on Boyd. Pretty ******* dissapointing.

Do we know exactly what happened? Sounds like Boyd the instigator. Hopefully he did nothing he can't come back from.

Him getting pissed isn't the issue. Him and Cordy punching on is. Don't put the two together like that.

Two idiots.

So he should.

Not so sure about that. He should on the basis that it was reprehensible behaviour (or seems to be from these reports). However, the reason for them attacking him will be purely about his contract and will be self serving sensationalised trash and will have nothing to do with the core issue (violence from drunk young men).

So youre right, he should, but not for the reasons that they will do it. This will be a shitstorm simply because it is Tom Boyd. For example, if it was McLean, or Koby, do you think there would be such a reaction?

You watch them find some way to twist this and blame the club for putting pressure on him with such a huge contract. You watch them blame violence on someone else than the perpetrator as they do in so many other contexts. ******* scum.

Herald Sun says it was an accidental hit and that they were skylarking. Whatever that means. Also says Cordy required medical attention and that Boyd was fined $5000 and made a private donation to a charity.

Need our leaders to send a strong message that this is not acceptable from two young players.

This has all the makings of becoming the worst trade in AFL history.

Damn it Tom... I'm firmly on the Tom Boyd bandwagon but starting to get less and less confident. Come on Tom, turn it around from here.

First time Boyds ever shown any aggression. It's a shame he chose to do it off the field.
