If GWS don't trade Boyd this year they are stupid as he will go into the PSD next year and put the 5 year 5 million dollar deal on his head and the bulldogs will be the only club stupid enough to pay it. At least if you trade him this year there will only be 1 stupid club.

After his manager has come out like this we can't just trade him, we need to show kids like Boyd theres a right and wrong way of going about things.

Exactly what I've been saying. Stuff him and put any other little upstarts back in their seats.
This has gone beyond players it's about boundaries, respect and culture now. Not just our club but the competition as a whole.

We can't be DICK-tated too by an upstart and his scummy agent. Shut it down now with the Dogs.
If we can't deal him to another club. We have our new WaterBoyd (c), won't he be popular running around the boundary?
If he runs fast enough he may develop some stamina and not get hit with beer bottles.

And my God, Pickering sounds like such a slimebag in those quotes.

No, I dont think they're the only club that will pay that for him - for a start, St Kilda knew the asking price, and enquired anyway.

You still get zero for him. Surely you are better off trading him out this year for Griffin and probably something else and keeping pick 4.

St Kilda are not going to pay 5 mill over 5 years to a player who say's I won't play for you. Hell him and his manager are leaving a club (or trying 2) after 1 year. Hell he seems like the type who may challenge the draft in court.

Only one team can do the personal terms-and-PSD stunt. Everyone else has to negotiate.

Given the ability to front-, back- and mid-load contracts, a surprising number of teams may be in the running.

Gee the love for Ryan Griffen seems to have dissipated now that Boyd is in the mix. I'd be very surprised if Griffen and the Bulldogs aren't talking to other clubs by now.

The doomsday scenario is that the Boyd Griffen swap isn't done, Griffen gets traded to your biggest future competitor (GC whose list manager by the way recruited Griffen ahead of Buddy in the first place). Boyd then goes for nothing in the PSD next year to us or the Saints.

Endgame, GWS end up with no Griffen, a disinterested and alienated Boyd they lose for nothing next year, and a bunch of player agents who will refuse to encourage their marquee players to GWS because they won't get the deal done....not a happy place

Sorry, where has he said that ? He's said he's 'going home', and that leaves a bunch of clubs.

St Kilda will also have the cap space and may well finish below us next year; it's rare a gaining club forces a player into the draft.
I'd suggest the Bulldogs would prefer to trade for him this year, and if that's unlikely would still seek to trade him in next year rather than let him take his chances.

So poaching club captains and genuine, proven stars of the game while under contract is fine... but if its a first year player, the whole system is screwed?

GWS played it to their advantage with Griff and now we are doing the same thing with Boyd. And both players are using the system for their own advantage

The biggest cause of players naming their destination mid-contract is the length of time it takes to be eligble for free agency. If a player can chose after 3 or 4 seasons and then at the end of each contract after that, there'd be far less player power during the tenure of the contract. Of course you'd need to allow clubs to also trade players without their consent

Mummy! I wanna come home! It's too hard!

An actual nightmare scenario would be to lose a club captain and a coach to a senior player revolt, and then not get the target you were aiming for, and be left with the choice of either spending the cap room you planned to hire him with, or leaving it in reserve and knowing other clubs closer to a premieraship also have 12 months to plan their war chest.

Even better, you have your club president up to his eyeballs in this fiasco, first backing and then sacking the coach ... and then trying and failing to do his list managers job.

While not actually having a replacement coach in place.

We'll get a new coach and captain in a few weeks, good luck in retaining Boyd and getting Griffen now, good luck in getting anyone else to commit to you. If I was Griffen I would be having massive second thoughts about your club.

I think trade him to any club BUT the dogs. I don't mean that In any way to piss off bulldogs supporters, he said he wants to play in Melbourne so don't let him dictate where we send him. Saints for pick 1

Why is that? Your genius of a president said he would be making griffin see out his contract. Because he respects contracts.

He can always sit out the year if he is that desperate to be home for mum's cooking. I hope from now on we ask these kids ( I mean really ask them) before we draft them if they have a problem moving interstate. If they do don't waste the pick.

That's not going to work - these little sooks need to grow up. They seem really pampered to me like those preteen beauty pageant kids living out their parent's dreams. Stage dads galore.

Look at this year's draft. The top 5 players are all from Vic. Other teams get the first pick they can take anyone. We'd have to screen 10 of them to get one. We'd get terrible value for our picks only chasing kids who live in crap places from crap homes.

Need to target and train Sydney and Canberra kids. Sydney stole Heeney with pick 17 or whatever. I hope we sign this Steele kid up for life.

...because one first year player wants to leave for mega$, yes that's the logical conclusion.

It would be highly unlikely Griffen's management and Bulldogs haven't established a fall back position, that doesn't involve him at the Bulldogs next year and doesn't get him to GWS.

Worst case for us, Griffen goes pig shooting next year and we get FA comp for him next year...what comp will you get for Boyd if he goes PSD?...crickets

It will work and does work you just need a kid with the balls to tell you the truth. Chad Wingard told us and though we weren't happy we respected the truth and didn't draft him.

No because GWS have comitted to an elite player and don't deliver on the deal to get him there.....
