It would be highly unlikely Griffen's management and Bulldogs haven't established a fall back position, that doesn't involve him at the Bulldogs next year and doesn't get him to GWS.

Worst case for us, Griffen goes pig shooting next year and we get FA comp for him next year...what comp will you get for Boyd if he goes PSD?...crickets
Make not 1 difference to my life if your club and he want to go the psd route good luck to you. Griffen can go pig shooting and Boyd can cut the oranges for the neafl side.

We'll get a new coach and captain in a few weeks, good luck in retaining Boyd and getting Griffen now, good luck in getting anyone else to commit to you. If I was Griffen I would be having massive second thoughts about your club.

Its times like these when Im reminded that stupid burns.

Look at GWS' list. Add three years and another 50 games to it. Find me the sort of holes in it that need extensive use of free agency.

It doesnt. What it needs is cap room, to retain those players, and time.

Now, there was a time when there was a deal that could have been done to spend some draft picks and create some cap room and bring in a bridging midfielder for those three years. But, due to an acute attack of stupid by a panicking club president, that time is gone.

The Dogs are not getting Boyd this year. He is, as I'd said repeatedly, untradeable, as in 'not going to be traded'. Yes, he was tapped up. Yes, he was promised a shitload of cash if he didnt re-sign. Big deal, life in the big city. Have a go next year, together with everyone else, after you've lost surprise (and when we all see who you hire as a coach, and how they deal with things).

Now, imagine the Western Bulldogs new list manager Gordon coming back to the supporter base and saying 'We totally didnt get Boyd, despite the money we promised him. The bastards wouldnt trade. But we did totally trade them our ex-captain, Griffen'.

The same melting flogs who were so angry at the Griffen-for-cap-room trade - in other words, you and people like you - would rip the joint apart, because dammit you got promised Boyd ! And pick 4 ! And pick 7 !

You'll get an offer for Griffen. But he's under contract, and after all thats happened, accepting our new offer will be seen as an insult by a very angry Doggies supporter base.

And this is why you hire professionals, and let them do their job, and dont do amateur hour shenanigans like getting your club president to be your list manager.

We might as well trade him off to the gold coast now he wants out. There not really in desperate need for a captain but another gun midfielder I am sure they would love. We will even pay out some of Griffs salary cap too as long as we get something good in return. Ball is in your court GWS.

Boyd isn't even your best young player. Ward was ours :(

Didn't you get McRae out of that? Not all doom and gloom. Although with that user icon, I suppose all your posts get interpreted as depressed.

I dunno, we'll just have to be satisfied with Wright and Durdin, I guess.

Gee Ian you were so nice and reasonable seeming when it appeared the deal was all your way - now resorting to name calling, disappointing, good luck retaining your kids mate every club is circling and you have only so much cap, maybe a side effect of recruiting everyone the same age, gaps will appear and mate if this deal doesn't go through, no agent is recommending you, Pickering already despises you, and Griffen's manager will make Pickers look like a happy camper. Two of the most powerful player agencies hating you...wow

GWS played it to their advantage with Griff and now we are doing the same thing with Boyd. And both players are using the system for their own advantage

Two entirely different situations because the respective clubs are in two entirely different situations.

Yours is imploding through mismanagement. Good luck with that.

Ours has a young roster that needs resigning this year. Letting Tom Riddle and Pickers pick and choose is a dangerous precedent and exactly the message we don't want to send to our youth. Griffen was a luxury. Patfull was much more important from a squad standpoint. Maintaining the reins on our entire roster is much more important than paying overs for a veteran player in a position we have plenty in.

Our solution. Walk away from the Gordon timebomb. Deal with the non-delusional St Kilda or someone else or don't. Trade value will be about the same next year. Win more games push for playoffs.

Your solution. Get a new manager, appoint a new captain, find a new president, lose Cooney and Griffen somewhere, and a lot more games.

Oh, despite all the stupid shown by the Bulldogs new list manager, Im still happy for trades to happen - Frost needs a new home, for example.

But it disappoints me that, because of the stupid shown by a desperate club president, the draft picks that the Dogs need to recover will be going to GWS instead.

All you had to do was keep your god-damned mouths shut about the under the table deal with Tom Boyd and his manager and do it next year, while you had surprise and he was out of contract. Just keep quietly collecting cap room, adding in a couple of high draft picks with GWS for sending out Griffen, and then drop the five point five million dollar hammer.

Instead, the rest of the league has 12 months warning of the Tom Boyd sweepstakes.

Good luck with that, and with finding a new home for Griffen.

griffs manager wont be angry at us. He will be pissed the bulldogs are expecting the world and holding griff to ransom.

Hate that our Clubs dont want to work together...both need to work through this in a smart way.
Facts are:
  • Griffen wants to play for GWS a Captain and the perfect player to take you to the finals next year, allowing your younger guys not to be tagged.
  • Boyd can not stay at GWS now and played his hand by nominating the Dogs and will nominate to leave anyway, this will cause a distraction all year to a young club.
  • Pick 4 will get GWS either McCardin or Wright both could be better than Boyd.
  • GWS have Patton Cameran Tominlson and a couple of other good forward prospects.
  • GWS want to swap picks 4 and 7 for 1 Petracca
We should just make it happen now loose Boyd and gain Petracca and Griffen......

How are they entirely different situations? You are trying to poach our captain and we are trying to poach your former number 1 pick. Both are under contract.

And please... Patful was more important than Griffen? Get your hand off it

We're right into Wright but most draft watchers rate Boyd higher than both (some significantly higher).

No because GWS have comitted to an elite player and don't deliver on the deal to get him there.....

Yawn. This keeps getting rolled out and is still as funny as it was to begin with. If the Bulldogs are playing hard ball it's GWS's fault for not caving? There's a reason only Bulldogs fans are the ones going on about it like it's a fact.

Wright has a heck of a ceiling, but no one knows if he can get there. Good player for someone to grab and stash for two years while he grows into his body.

Go watch the GWS-Richmond game, and see how the structure collapsed when Davis was missing.

We've got more mids than you can poke a stick at, but only two KPDs worth the name, and one of them works hard to cover for a lack of talent.

Its a matter of perspective. Griffen is elite. A captain. Boyd has played 9 games and 'might be good.

St Kilda are in. Lots of clubs in Melbourne. A lot of them are finals teams too. Isn't he a Carlton supporter?
So many options...
Probably why your good mate "Pickers" said three times "coming home" notice he didn't say "Western Bulldogs".
Something almost biblical about this... didn't Judas or Peter thrice deny Jesus? That didn't work out well for anyone.

7 games isn't it? So you're prepared to pay him $700K per appearance. Yep, good bit of business, your club is certainly well managed.
Can't understand why everyone is jumping ship?
