i just dont think signing him to a contract that size is the right message to send to the bulldogs players. I wonder what they thought when they signed him? or Luke Beveridge walking in the door after it happened?
Obviously some players arent happy about it 2 years on. If he was worth it he would have showed it by now. Wait until the actual gun young players come out of contract again. The club wont keep them all. An absolute c**k up. they probably could have signed him for millions less.
As for the man himself, he was clearly thinking about his pockets otherwise why else put yourself in such a position. I would've been embarrassed stepping foot into the club on the first day let alone 2 years on. Its such a waste of money. Even if he comes 'good' in the next year or two the first two seasons are still a waste of money. The games played + goals returned + promise shown back that up.
I actually hope he turns it around for his own sake or he will find himself with next to no relationship with his team mates.

Jesus you can feel the vitriol from Barrett. He really took Beveridge giving him a dressing down hard

Two minor points:

The poster you are attempting to hit with your razor edged and, if I my say so, hilarious response was actually joking in his post (but nice work all the same);

Most of us have seen Ol' Tombo out there on the field so even in jest, the idea of him as any kind of hard man is slightly more awkward than anything else.

Otherwise though, top shelf effort.

Ha ha I thought others might realise I was also being facetious :thumbsu:

Thanks for the positive comments!

boys will be boys as basil jokingly said

im sure the parents of one punch victims wouldnt be happy about that basil

lol, even his teammates think he is overpaid.

on a more serious note, how long until this kind of joking turns into legitimate unrest when more players start thinking "youre getting twice what i am for jack shit"

Tory Dickson is the latest player to re-sign with the Dogs. Earlier this week.

I think that's about 14 or so in the last 12 months.

It's got nothing to do with hate for the bloke. It is a simple fact that Boyd has been horribly disappointing in his afl career to date. Yes, the big boys do take longer to develop. However by this stage the good ones have shown glimpses of what they will become. Mccartin and wright are great examples, they have both given us something already. Boyd on the other hand has shown nothing whatsoever to suggest he will be anything other than a handy forward who can pinch hit in the ruck. Good luck to him for securing a massive contract when he did - because right now he is worth probably one third of that contract

Boyd struggled to get a kick in the NEAFL. I am not surprised he is struggling to get a kick in the VFL. The only thing I am surprised about is why the hell the Bullies traded for him in the first place. He would've needed to play well beyond what he had shown (at the point he was traded) to justify even half of his contract. It was just a bad trade. A shocking trade. Now he isn't even playing AFL, and he is starting fights with his teammates. It is just getting worse for Boyd. I feel he is only getting a VFL game on name as well. What a debacle.

Keep swinging. In Boyd's last game in the vfl he kept us in it. Three goals and some big grabs when the game was going against us. Set us up for the win

Your trolling is so weak

If this happened a couple of weeks ago why are they only suspending him now and why are they suspending him at all if it was an accident.

Rhetorical questions, I know

Apparently Bontempelli was about to hold a press conference and out Boyd so the club sent out a press release.

Had good delivery all day and only managed 3 goals. I actually thought it was an average game. That being said, it is a slight improvement on his NEAFL games. I guess you could call that progress.

Something wrong there for sure.
I feel for Boyd, with ludicrous dollars comes high expectations and I'd imagine difficulty getting acceptance from team mates when your earning x 3 more than your top 5 players.
I think this speculative type deal will never be seen again.
I understand why the club did it, but he will never become the player he could be if he weren't playing under such ludicrous conditions

No need to feel sorry for him. He could always renegotiate his contract if he wanted to, this would take a huge amount of pressure off (and he would still be paid extremely well).

He chose to accept those dollars and whether he likes it or not he will always have massive expectation and attention. Same in every sport. We're not just talking about a large contract, we are talking about the second biggest contract in AFL history.
