Serious question for Dogs fans. Boyd does have some kind of performance clause built in surely? As in play a certain number of senior games each season to get the full amount? Your team would not be paying him the full amount to play in the VFL surely not?

Can't be certain, but the base salary is apparently in the vicinity of $650-700k if what I heard is correct.

Still a lot to be paying a developing guy, but it's another player or two's salary under the cap every year.

Of course it's going to rustle some feathers, sportspeople are human beings just like you and me, I kinda expected him to be getting some flack for the coin he's on at his age, if he wasn't that would be more odd than him getting a little ribbing from his teammates.

He probably has heard enough of it, he's probably frustrated that he's not performing at a level where he wants to be but he is still only 20 he's got his whole career ahead of him to get it right, he'll be given every opportunity to do so because full forwards of his size and ability are as rare as hens teeth and the most valuable commodity in the game.

You need a good forward and focal point to win grand finals, Bulldogs have learnt that during their last crack at the flag so they went and got one, I don't see the problem here.

All I see are jealous haters because their team didn't have the balls to go and get him and are stuck without the most valuable commodity in the game, it's simple.

I just can't wait until he matures like all full forwards/big men take time to do and take the game by the throat and we win a flag or two simply because we have a good full forward with a great team to go with it.

Everyone in the media will be saying how it was a stroke of genius and why aren't more clubs doing this and Melbourne, Norf and st. Kilda fans on here will be melting hard with egg on there face.

The worth or otherwise of the Boyd trade will not be known until 2018 at the earliest - expecting anything significant from a 20yo KP forward who is 200cms tall is folly and every rational person knows this. The latest shenanigans do not change this timeline.

The contract has obviously not borne fruit as yet but it was never going to at this point - by all means label this a bust in 2 years time if the same level of output is being offered up by Boyd. He will have to wear some criticism but he's a big boy and can handle it - Tippett and Scully were subjected to the same treatment for underperforming on fat contracts so it is to be expected that Boyd will as well.

Barrett is irrelevant white noise - he is pissed off that the Dogs beat him to the story. He has a problem with Beveridge - won't be the first or last scribe who doesn't get along with a senior coach, but it puts his constant and boring jibes at Beveridge and the Dogs into context. Also for a supposed big news breaker he breaks bugger-all stories of note, and he comprehensively failed to do his job once again in this instance. It's a bit early to be claiming Boyd will be a good full forward, at the moment he's struggling just to get a game at AFL level.
