St Kilda paying 20% of there salary cap on 2 player's... St Kilda, your great for a laugh 😃 😄 😁
You are aware that clubs can bank salary cap space and use it.

PS Guess what St Kilda has done over the last few years.

Maybe but why improve the offer at all. I found the whole thing bizarre. Carlton's offer was like 600K less than the Saints per year. I don't get what they gained from going over by so much.
They gained a mobile ruckman who can go forward for 8 years. They needed to pay overs to get him.
It will also help them retain and recruit players.

I dunno, I think Carlton will not be materially worse lining up with pittonet and they'll get a pick.

The money for the saints is meaningless because they've got cap banked they have to spend or lose.

Despite posturing i don't buy that they don't intend to trade Marshall out. Yes it'll be a late first only, but they spend only money, replace their ruck with one in the right age range, and get a late first to boot.

What's not to like for either side?
It’s the worst possible year for Carlton to have a top 10 rated father/son pick though which essentially means they will have to trade the pick to avoid it getting eaten up in bids , and every club knows this

this is actually a pretty horrible outcome for both clubs

marshall is a fine ruckman with 3-4 good years left. tdk is not a position of need, and you cannot convince me that playing both with one resting forward is optimal when they are mediocre at best forwards, but good to very good ruckmen. blowing this much of your cap for 8 years on player who does not fit a positional need is silly enough, let alone on a position that is fairly low impact compared to an A grade mid or forward.

and then you get to carlton. they lose a player who is good enough to compete against all rucks and their next best option is a plodder who is an absolute liability as soon as the ball exits a stoppage. pittonett will be by far and away the worst first ruck in the competition next season. the compensation they will receive for de koning is not commensurate to the downgrade in quality they will now suffer. this could change if they acquire a meek type who is ready to go as a first ruck for cheap, but im not sure if that player is available this trade period (ned reeves?)

just bizarre stuff all around.
Why are we resting one forward?

Maybe we will rest one on the bench .... alternate them

With the sub rule likely to be shelved and AFL extending the bench to 5 or 6 then quite a few teams may opt to play 2 genuine rucks

Maybe we give them a week off here and there ..... to keep their bodies fresh

Times are a changin my friend
