So Carlton couldn't match? ... given TDK is RFA
They could but our offer was reported at ~1.1 million. There was no way we were even going to match the offer of the Saints which was ~600K more per season over 7-8 years. And if we did Saints would have walked away because they were never going to trade for him and we would be on the hook for that full amount.

I think you will find our offer is less than 1.7m a year ... at least according to our president in a very recent interview.

So why are the majority of Blues fans so upset about losing him?

He's athletic and is a decent centre clearance ruck.

Not via hit outs but his ground level work.

One of the best few rucks in the league when the ball hits the ground.

I guess fans like him as a person as well which is why many fans are disappointed.

The most recent figure for TDK was 1.8M after being 1.7M for a while. So less than whatever it is is still a lot more than what Carlton offered and were reported to not be budging on.

But how do we whip up the outrage without made up facts and figures ?!.
So every person reports one figure, your president comes out and all he says is it's less and that means the reported figures are way off? It could be 1.4M, 1.5M, 1.6M it doesn't really matter - it's still a massive difference to the offer from Carlton especially when you consider it's a 7-8 year deal.

It’ll give Blues fans something to rail against for the next 8 years at any rate.

I might create the weekly TDK review thread rate now so we can get an early start.

I don't think it would be a massive concern for Carlton fans. It's the nature of free agency. We have very little control over it. He could turn into the best player in the competition and I couldn't possibly be upset at the club because matching the offer would be a ridiculously dumb move on our behalf.

Well he got enough jeers playing for the Blues at the end of this season, it’s going to be mental the first game he plays against you in Saints colours.

We need to free up some salary cap space - Ken Hinkley will be sought after for Football Manager position and with that will come Zac Butters as RFA.
..and will probably have plenty left over if Jack Silvagni leaves this year - Zac Williams, Adam Saad, Nic Newman and Nick Haynes play their final seasons in 2026. Blue could have a $3m+ warchest going into 2026 post season.

Zac Butters + Zac Bailey get ready for big pay days.

I went to every game in Melbourne and think I heard a sarcastic jeer once or twice in a game or two. And to be fair he completely checked out in the second half of the season. Was playing some really poor football. No doubt there will be boos as there is with a lot of players that move clubs but don't see it as any more significant than anyone else.

If we get the TDK of the first half of the season, and we're front loading a large portion of his salary with use it or lose it cap, then this is a win.

If we get the TDK of the second half of the season, and the rest of his career, and we're paying 1.7 a year per year, then this will be a massive loss.

Ultimately if you're a small club without a massive appeal to Free Agents, and you don't get lucky with F/S or academy players, then you need to take risks lest you wallow in mediocrity. We've spent the last 3-4 years throwing money at the wall to see what sticks. Seems like it's TDK.

People keep bringing up these imaginary scenarios where all of a sudden he's going to be an effective forward or this amazing tap ruckman.

There's a reason why he has 1 Brownlow vote in 100 games.

Pittonet took all the votes?
