I was going to make a counter arugment about rucks taking way longer to develop.. BUT then I looked at career stats of a few other #1 ruckman in the league.

Tim English took 5 years in the AFL system to put it together and start playing consistently good footy.

Jarrod Witts and Sean Darcy took 4 years.

Todd Goldstein and Reilly O'Brien took 3 years.

Rowan Marshall, Max Gawn, Brodie Grundy took 2 years.

Tom DeKoning is currently in his 5th year. All this tells me is that if the penny hasn't dropped by now it probably won't.
Wasn’t he in the 2017 draft?
He debuted in 2018 this is his 6th year.
I’ve given him the benefit of doubt and said he has this year to prove himself.
But rule of thumb is 5 seasons with exceptions of course

teams will be dropping out of the race for him after realising that hes not actually very good.

Disagree. I think the $800k+ contracts are long gone as are the multiple first round pick trades.

But I still think plenty of clubs will be willing to pay him much more than Carlton on the hope they can turn his form/career around.

If anything his current situation increases interest because there's potentially greater value on the table.

The casual TDK observer gets enamoured by the highlights package and physical attributes, but I see another name added to the list of phyically gifted big men who don't make the most of their ability. No doubt he will get plenty of chances, starting in the forward line in Carlton's VFL team, and then likely at another club in 2024 in every position possible.

The reality is that TDK cannot get a game at Carlton ahead of Marc Pittonet or Jack Silvagni. Just let that sink in for a moment.

I expect the deal has already been done. If not TDK's manager is a fool and has cost his client a fortune.

TDK missed round 6 with the flu/soreness and was given a game in the VFL to see how he recovered from that rather than being sent straight back into the senior side. Unfortunately he suffered concussion in the VFL in round 7 so he will miss round 8 also. He’s in the best 22 when fit.

Marc Pittonet is number 1 in the AFL this year for hitouts to advantage %. The question is not is he better than Pittonet. It’s can we play two rucks. A question most teams are still trying to figure out. IMO TDK should be playing as the third tall forward in place of Silvagni but that’s on coaching selection.

As for his worth. Many teams will be chasing him. Athletic talls are rare and teams seem to froth over them. These types nearly always fetch a bigger contract because of their athletic traits and the hope that they can be turned into something special. Rightly or wrongly that’s just how it is.

IF he leaves it’s likely something roughly like:
TDK + Future 4th Rounder
for
1st Rounder (pick in the teens) + Future 2nd/3rd Rounder

Personally I hope he stays.

That’s not the reality though.

He played 19 games last year and has played 5 of 7 this year.

He’s not in the side currently but “cannot get a game at Carlton” is a fallacy.

Voss was asked about him after the west coast game and there was no mention of the flu, just that he was a bit banged up or something along those lines.

He did say it that if he could build his form it’s not out of the question that he could return to the 22 which suggests form must be playing a role in the decision.

Sounds like he hardly set the world on fire before his concussion so I doubt he was returning this week anyway.

Again, utter bullsh1t !!

Are you trying to tell me that if your club thought so highly of a player they were going to pay him $800K pa but felt his trade price was only a third rounder ??

FMD, get a grip !!!

What did the Cats pay in trade for Cameron ??
Cameron versus TDK... nor that's the player comparison I come to BF for

Tell us more oh Lord

Geeeee if you get that deal for TDK, you might as well buy a Tattslotto ticket.. As you got more chance of winning Tattslotto then getting that trade...

Geez the afl media has done a massive number on people here.

This is like that time someone, forget who, said on radio Brad Crouch was worth 1m a million a year and all the crows fans were adamant that they would get pick 2.

Take a deep breath and watch the kid play and ask yourself if you'd pay that much

I'm trying to figure out the angle on those reported contract values that were blatant bullshit? Like, normally with these things they are doing a clubs or managers work for them but like, you cant inflate a reported offer by THAT much and have anyone take it seriously

Its not a comparison of the players themselves, its a comparison of what a club wants to pay a player which then dictates where the trade price may be.

You guys are paying Cameron very well and it cost you a lot trade-wise to get him over.

If a club wants to pay TDK an incredible amount (I don't think he is worth it) then the trade price should be commensurate with that salary.

Surely you must be joking?

His value is 100% dropping, becuase without a doubt teams will be dropping out of the race for him after realising that hes not actually very good.

Even at 800k per year, no club would ever ever ever give up 2 first rounders for him. That is absolutely ridiculous!

Why would you pay 800pa if he wasn't that good then ??

But your information on what clubs are offering literally comes from Kane Cornes a***

His last exchange with Kingy the other day was basically:

KC: Jackson got this therefore TDK is towards that range

DK: surely that's a cautionary tale

KC: but clubs are too dumb to learn and therefore some club will repeat the mistake

No one on earth is offering TDK a Cameron sized contract.

He's worth a bit more than you paid for Stanley imo

Luke Jackson is a proof that they can. I literally laugh every time I see a TDK story on the news or footy media, they talk him up like he's Dean Cox when most Carlton fans don't even want him in the team for balance.

Luke Jackson is like 3 years youngers than TDK and clearly a significantly better player. I'm not sure the two can really be compared any shape or form. 800k a year for Jackson is agreed dumb but believable - 1m for TDK is clearly complete nonsense

Yes, both are dumb. My point is that the media are capable of hyper inflating the value of players deserving or not.

My point is that there is dumb and there's dumb but I just remembered Sumich was sprouting some crap about 1.2m a year at one point so I get more where you're coming from.
