Definitely easy trades for players that the MC considers a sure-fire impact to the list like Tuohy, Hendo, etc.

Where those players have questions on their impact we have played hardball or walked away entirely, like Steven, Deledio etc.

It just depends whether you think TDK is a walk up start to the best 22. I think he'll spend a year behind Stanley, then he'll be competing with Neale, Conway, SDK, who are all a reasonable shot at being better.

For that reason I think he's in the secondary category. He's worth a punt, but don't bet the house.

If Cats rated him how you rate him, they wouldn't even be chasing him and they'd be paying him less than 400k. I think they have expectations, thus the interest. Steven and Deledio were great players in their heyday but were on the downhill slide age wise.

Is Amartey not that player?

Absolutely. Maybe they want two of them rotating between ruck and forward. Not sure where McLean fits there either. I can't guess why there is interest, but all reports say there is.

There's 500-550k chasing and 800k chasing. They are both "chasing" but are not the same thing

Apprently essendon is willing to offer 7 years

Hope not
No like seriously, are these list managers on crack? I've never seen media reports that are so completely out of whack with what a player has actually shown...

I hadn't really factored in the fact that Wells had stepped back. I don't know if easy trades was a Wells thing or a Cats philosophy.

We are in a weird spot in that TDK could be a great player and talls do take quite a while to show their greatness. Pretty sure this year was the year that TDK needed to step up if he were to come close to the trajectory that Max Gawn took for example. So do we want to be stuck with potential that may only come good if they leave us, never come good, or come good if we have patience? This year, we have devalued all of our player currency but fortunately we do have some exhibition of attributes to go off.

I mean, I could see TDK going for an early second because we need to free up cap space and he hasn't shown he will be a tall forward or a first ruck yet. We have so many other positions to fill. I think he will flourish in Geelong's environment. I think he will struggle staying with us.

We watch with interest ...

We've shown we don't want to trade our future 1st rounder recently. That would've got the deal done for O Henry but we pushed back hard not to do it. I think we know our older guys are on the precipice and that could be a top 10 pick if things go badly. If we weren't willing to risk a future 1st for Henry I'd be staggered if we were for TDK.

If he nominates Geelong we will try to come to a mutually beneficial arrangement but unless we win the flag again or go close I highly doubt it involves a first rounder on our end. More likely it involves our future 2nd plus some steak knives to try and bump that up to an earlier 2nd rounder either this year or next. Or we do something that helps you bring in a player you want like we did with Collingwood and Tom Mitchell.

All I can say is that when I have Geelong and Carlton supporters disagreeing with me, I must be getting close to the value.

I think you're not far off. I just don't think Geelong is as willing to part with a future 1st given our list demographics than back when we had Selwood, Danger and Hawkins still in their prime years.

It definitely won't be "here's our future 2nd rounder" and that's it either.

Swans would be also looking at TDK as a forward to pair with McDonald. They like their Tippett types.
Is there any real evidence he can play as a forward?

I suspect it is more the journalists are on crack...

Amartey is lazy and has never rocked up to pre season fit and ready to go. Yep has some obvious attributes but well known deficiencies. Neither he nor TDK show much semblance of Footy IQ.

Not happy for my Club to overpay either.

Absolutely, but one wonders why there is any chase at all if he is behind Stanley and the Cats feel that Neale, Conway and SDK could be better options.

Why would anyone trade a first round pick for a guy that has six years in the system and is not even the first choice ruckman at this club?

A pick in the 30-40s would be commensurate with his value.

I’ve already stated what I think he’s worth.

At this stage, a 24 year old Rhys Stanley is a very reasonable comparison in terms of value.

Thats true but rhys didnt cost a high first rounder though like many posters are suggesting here (it was p21 and we got 59 back).

It was a late 1st round pick with a late pick coming back.

I said that should be his value months ago, and I stand by it.
I'd think that's probably within reason. I just don't know that we end up with a late first this year. We currently hold pick 11 with the hardest run home and our whole first rotation midfield yet to return.

Technically it was actually an end of first round compo pick (with a late 3rd rounder back) but i take your point.
