Ahh , no.

You have set what a potential player is worth. He was not contracted. Gillies is and unless the deal is right , he will not be going anywhere. 33 & 51 is just to late.

You have apparently offered him 300G a year , has to be R1.
You wouldn't take 33 & 51 for a guy who's only played a handful of games?

And I thought Adelaide fans asked for too much.

I've come up with:

Hawks trade Lisle, laddo and possibly young and get gillies and pre-listed player

Geelong trade gillies and get MD#3 and possibly young or pre-listed player

North trade first pick (16 is it?) and get lisle and pre-listed player

GWS trade MD#3 and 2 or 3 pre-listed players and get laddo and pick 16.

I think all clubs win.
Only sticking point is how many prelisted players GWS have access to and have they reached their limit?

How about Geelong keep Gillies and we keep Lisle and Young ? win-win

Pure speculation (in keeping with the week) but I reckon Dangerfield to Geelong - Hogan, Renouf and another Geelong kid to Adelaide and Gillies to Hawthorn would see this done pretty quickly.

Stuff geelong and Gillies. Just deal with Adelaide to get Dangerfield to Hawks - Renouf, Laddo and anything else we can throw in.

What have you been smoking TAITA, surely you are just joking, dangerfield is a jet , there could be no way we could assist the cats to get this guy just so we can get a bloke who has played just a few games at the top level.

Its not going to happen. Why you ask?

  • Gillies is contracted.
  • Geelong will not deal him.
  • Hazell is ex Hawthorn and stiring the pot to get a contract extension.

One view is that Gillies and his management are shoring up things for the years ahead.

This is supported by the fact that Hawthorn is about the only club Geelong shouldn't deal with. So naming us is just a way of getting Gillies a better deal.

The Hawks have played along (maybe hoping that Gillies is so upset that he would leave - this year or the next) in part to pressure the salary cap a bit and to also to play to the crowd (US) showing that they are trying to address perceived needs.

Do not underestimate the "Play to the Crowd' part. Adelaide did this before thh Gunston trade and supporters were wrapt and it is why for example, Tigers supporters get annoyed when their club is never mentioned in trading up or down.

Ease up fellas. You sound like the Crows supporters here. It would take atleast Lewis and some to be in the ballpark for Dangerfield.

I think you will find, mate, that it was all in jest following Taita's hypothetical.

No one is really entertaining this idea.

The salary cap angle is an interesting one. Geelong have reasonable space with Ablett leaving and the retirements. I guess we can try and force them to give Gillies an overpriced contract. Probably won't achieve much, but might make it more difficult for them down the track.

Then again the culture at Geelong seems great so doubt it'd make much difference.

I walked past Chris Scott in Bali yesterday. I'm wondering whether they'd be making any more trades without their head coach around? I guess he could be on the phone to guys like Balmy to complete a trade but methinks Geelong have shut up shop for this trade period.

Pick 33 maybe for Gillies . . . I wouldn't be devastated with that.

The Pussies would surely be asking for more than that I would have thought, considering Gillies is contracted.

You sure it wasn't Brad?

Look at what you paid for Gunston and that would be a start but really Geelong will probably not trade to anyone short of an "offer we can't refuse" something like a single figure pick. I acknowledge he probably is not worth that but thats what it would take imo. so 99% sure no deal will happen.

We will risk that in the next 12 months he will get more games and be happier to stay. Take West for example 6-8 weeks ago Im sure he would have been looking round , now Id say he would be very happy to stay being a Premiership player and having established himself in the side.

Am I the only one who doesn't want him? Nothing against the guy or his ability, but I really don't think we need to bring in another 'project player' when we have yet to develop any of our other project players.
